Thats a better question, because it is a completely different cost when you give your car to a good shop, purchase everything from them and have them do the blueprinting and balancing and machining at a machine shop they trust, as apposed to you trying to get the best deal on every part and calling around and finding a good machine shop. Trust me I know that machine shop rates can vary greatly and piston prices can vary greatly. Also the shop labor can be all over the place as well.
Why is that a different or better question? That’s what I asked in the OP. Is your internet broken?
[quote=sakimano]What are the approximate costs of going built b[/b] with a B5 S4? Not gold plated, diamond studded…but a good build, doing it right, with a good shop (you can decide what a good shop is).

Note to self be glad you like jupiter…he is honest abkut his csrs perdormance level headed and not afraid to post a picture of you working as a garbage guy
The funniest part it says in the post on insta gram that, the person pictured is my buddy Dave! Two we were at a rock quarry removing a 1 gallon container of muratic acid and got paid $2800! Yeah I will for sure go to a rock quarry in the thumb of Michigan for $1400 and then go get 15 grease accounts in some HO dunk town and finish the day at $4400 in one day. Oh and we got to beat on the rock quarry’s owners sons turbo k20 dune buggy
The answer to your question is quoted above. I’m in the low 30’s the way the car sits now, more if you consider the cost of the initial mods which have since been replaced. BBK, suspension, exhaust and turbos have been replaced for something better or due to failure. My engine isn’t built so tack on another 10k and its right inline with Troops figure.
Saki, unfortunately there are very few people with 40k considering the B5 as an option. ZT is one and maybe a few others…kind of ties in with what I feel is the major downfall to the platform, cutting corners to reduce cost resulting in what you see today.
Not at all and if you think I did then you’re confused. You called me out and I said sure, not once did I claim I had a chance. This isn’t about who has the faster car, its more about you being an asshole. I’m truly excited to see how your car performs, I just wish you weren’t the dickhead behind the wheel.
Is your car running good right now? If not, then shut up until it is.
Stalkimano is trying hard, lol, but wrong, I was never at Ultra last weekend. I’m in Sunny Isles many weeks a year with my family and went to South Beach a few nights with buddies who were in town. We hit the W, SLS, Delano, the Sultan for chow, and we were led late at night to the Foxhole, which in itself was quite a gem of a find amongst the pretentiousness of the area, and where a lot of the industry people go, it seems.
Hit me up next time if you go to PBIR, I’ll be back in June and have a car I’d like to run at some point, maybe the grudge match between you and 8URV8 will happen, plus I’d love to see your B5.
ok I finally read this thread, and I would like to put in my 2 cents on a couple of things. Im not going to comment on the cost of building the engine too much because i have no idea what prices are nowadays. But I did work at Eurocode years ago and we built multiple B5 S4’s when I was there. Parts are of course very important but the machine shop and the shop that does the build are also very very important. The Eurocode B5 S4 that was in the GP event was a 2.8 with GT28RS’ and the machining was all done by cosworth. once Autospeed perfected the tune(which took probably 20-30 revisions) the car was running flawless. It was only tuned for 104 octane and David daily drove that car for a long time. After that we built a 3L with 2871R’s and cosworth also did the machine work on that engine and it ran like a beast. This customer only ran racegas as well.
After we built that customers car David wanted more power and we rebuilt his Engine to a 3L and changed the turbos to 2871R’s, again car ran flawless. After that we built a 3L with 2871R’s and shipped it out of state. The customer had a Suburu shop install the engine and they fucked that car up. The customer shipped the car to Eurocode and we fixed everything up buttoned up the car and the customer flew down and picked up his car from Eurocode. We had 2 tunes for him 104 octane and 91 octane just so he was able to make the 1200-1500 mile drive home.
After that Cosworth got a big government contract and stopped taking customer engines. After that we started using a couple of different machine shops and there was always some type of problem, it was always something that was caught during the first start up of the engine before the car was delivered to the customer. They were all reputable machine shops that worked on racecars, classic cars, modern cars, but no one did the same quality of work as cosworth. I remember prices being higher than what was posted here but most customers that bought the Autospeed GT kit always opted for the best pistons, rods, valves, valve springs, retainers and everything else that is involved with building this engine.
Even when an engine had initial issues, not one engine blew or grenaded during my time working at Eurocode even with the power the GT turbos would put down.
To clarify, David daily drove a car that looked like that one for a while. I know this because I have a video of him totaling it while street racing. Insurance fraud for the win… LoL
