There are 3 conductors. Which ones do I need to jump?
I don’t remember there colors off hand. If you can take a picture. Or if you have a vag Com you can do a out put test that should help test that switch.
I need to get one.
Even an AC diagram for the car would be helpful right now.
I installed the new switch and it didn’t help. Still blows warm.
I also had a friend evac and charge the system with the correct amount. No dice.
Any ideas? The compressor is not running at all.
The first big thing is to check and see if there are any codes. You can also try to jump the compressor and test it there too Those compressor units fail very easily. It’s a common failure. You didn’t pull the AC at any point in the last 8 months did you.
I had the codes pulled BUT - I had been pulling fuses when troubleshooting, so I don’t know which codes are legit and which of them I actually caused during testing.

FYI - my external temperature still displays on the gauges.
Jeff the codes you posted above would have some issues on the system working. But you said you pulled fuses. I would clear the codes and just check the HVAC codes. You can also do an output test in the HVAC module in vag Com. If you have issues figuring out how to do that let me know. I can walk you through that.

Oh man. I don’t think it’s the module. The economy light just kinda raferms that.

What does the Econ light usually mean for you guys?
It’s not the module your compressor is probably shot. The econ light generally comes on when the system isn’t working correctly. It can be compressor or fluid related.
I did a little more work with the vag-com. Looked like I had 1bar pressure on the AC system, which from reading online means it’s empty. I put the same crappy can (with gauge) on it and sure enough, it was way way low/emptyish. I went ahead and added enough so that vcds showed an increase. I checked it the next day and it was back to 1bar. I guess I might have “created” a leak by over pressurizing the system. Going to take it to a shop tomorrow to get sniffed.
That’s very possible. Let us know what you find. Usually they do a smoke test on AC systems. It works best.
He couldn’t get the compressor to kick in even after charging. He said that it’s throwing a code for the AC control module. I find it hard to believe that adding a little gas killed the module AND caused a leak.
He’s a well-known BMW Mercedes mechanic but doesn’t specialize in Audi. He sent the car home broken but didn’t charge me anything.
So I DO have this other AC module that I bought off ebay just in case… What is involved in recoding it? Any chance it will work correctly without recoding?
I’m with you. The module could have exploded but that wouldn’t cause a leak in the AC system. You could have two separate issues but I doubt that. The AC module isn’t a part you hear of going bad. You should be able too grab the coding from vagcom and just copy that code over if needed to too he new unit. You shouldn’t have to oleo recode it as long as it’s from the same body type.
Also it’s not helping that he didn’t give you too he one he actual codes. What’s the fault code in the module
