Who's ready for some Football?

Spreading the field and running quick slants out of a 3 step drop is a pretty common goal line play. The issue though is it brings more risk than a fade or bootleg play where the QB can just put it in the stands if nothing is open. But I’d guess it has a high success rate.

The main issue is why not kill the clock (or burns pats TO’s) with a run on 2nd down. Still 30 seconds or so for Brady to at least put together a FG drive.

But as far as that play, that DB made a hero jump on that route, you can see him react preemptively, reading Wilson the whole time. Just an incredible play on the biggest stage.

That’s great. Watching his reaction live was priceless

LOL - I stand corrected!

There is ONE armchair quarterback that does not agree it was the wrong call.

I’m a Broncos (Peyton Manning) fan (who was also a former longtime Colts fan), so the game didn’t hurt me as much.

Plenty of blame game going around and “why didn’t they just run the ball” going around the office today. While the coaching staff does deserve some blame, the players do too (Wilson and Lockette).

haha, well, I didn’t say it was a good play call given the situation. Just that it’s definitely a part of the playbook depending on the formation and how the DB’s are lining up. You asked why it was even in the playbook.

It is beyond obvious that it was an unnecessarily risky call.

Every bonehead armchair quarterback immediately knew that was the wrong call.

A words-fail-to-describe-the-fundamental-idiocy type of play call.

Seriously - who fucking runs that play? Why is it even in the playbook? Shocking. One for the ages.

Pretty good analysis in that article. Seattle must be a downer town today - that was a pretty epic choke.

Still, can’t forget how unlikely it is that they actually made it to the Super Bowl. Green Bay dominated the NFC Championship up until the last four minutes or so. Wilson had a horrible game that day (how many interceptions?) and barely completed a pass through the first 3.5 quarters. Then, when they made the comeback, Wilson had the miraculous Hail Mary of a two-point conversion. Seems like no one remembers that the touchdown wasn’t enough - the Hawks needed 2 to stay alive. In case anyone has forgotten, here’s how wild that 2-point conversion was:

WHAT IN THE FUCK…

I had to stay off of the internet yesterday…I still can’t believe it. I honestly would have been more ok with a blowout loss than what went down Sunday night. Anyways, I have to agree with Datadatum, I do not think it was a bad call. Wilson had the look he wanted, Lockette was wide open, Butler was ‘hiding’ behind Kearse/Browner and jumped the route and I don’t think he could see him coming. Lockette should have been more aggressive though. Was it a bad call? No. Was it the best call for the situation? Absolutely Not.

Personally, my key to the loss: Chris Avril. When he went down with a concussion I knew we would have our work cut out for us. I think if he stays in the game, Brady doesn’t throw for 2 TD’s in the 4th (Not saying he scores no points, but maybe a FG-TD or 2 FGs. Our pass rush went to shit)

I could go on all day about what should have been different and what-if’s, we lost, it sucks it had to be like that, but it is what it is.

Here’s to next season!

You meant that you agree with drob23.

-I- thought it was a worse call than Eve chomping on the apple.

It was a horrible call with a beast in the backfield and a quick QB on second down with a timeout left.

It was a great play on Butler’s part…“defense wins championships”

it was a weird game. 3 turning points for me

  1. the push for the touchdown with 30 seconds left in the 1st half. Almost everyone would have kicked a field goal and gone to the half down 4. The gamblers? They gambled…and tied it up. Without that gamble, the pass/run call is a different story. Interesting.

  2. the crazy flukey, bouncey ball catch to setup that red zone push at the end of the game. That’s one of those things where you look back after letting Lynch punch it in for the win and say ‘it was fate’. Unfortunately they slapped fate in the face

  3. the crazy decision of course which has been discussed ad nauseum

Basically Seattle hung on for dear life for most of the game and didn’t seem they deserved to be there…while New England was putting on a clincial display of how to pick apart the best defense in the league, Seattle was putting on a clinic on how to get stopped in 5 plays each possession…but then would pull these rabbits out of their hat and score to keep up. The patriots went to sleep for a few minutes in the second half allowing Seattle to build that lead, but once they woke back up, it seemed the better team won.

Reality is Seattle should have won, and the win would have looked a bit flukey like they stole one. Unfortunately New England won. I find them boring. I don’t watch football. Just as a group of people. Other than the multiple murderer guy. That was interesting.
