whose 'full bolt on jhm' car is going up against this unitronic car?

Ok so heres an update with my taxes im looking at new tires and a catback and then im good. Lol so the track closed last weekend so I couldnt go but it looks like the 26th it will be so if the weather stay grwat me and eurswag can run lol and the uni car is for sale 18500 firm red avant lol. I think this is tooo funny!

Hey man the 25th is test and tune, that’s SAT. I’m pretty sure I will run.

All things considered that is crazy funny about the Uni car.

Great to hear about your catback. Get that bad lad up there and start chipping away. Don’t expect the greatest time at first. Anything lower then 13.5 is a good start.

wait…the guy got unitronic tuned…tried to start ‘unitronic is so great!’ threads on AZ and EA and shit talked JHM in the process…then went out of his way to say he wouldn’t do pulls with the JHM cars locally…then was down 20 whp/20 wtq to one of those JHM cars at a dyno day…then half heartedly agreed to hit the dragstrip…and is now selling his car. Is that right? All in 3 weeks?

WOW…that’s worse than the PES/VFE supercharged guys (who usually sell a few months after acquisition of the kit)

That’s one of the best recaps of performance failure around.

I was at a car show over the weekend, and an older lotus elise comes by, with big ole chrome ccw’s on it. A friend and serious european auto enthusiast just comments, “you know, it’s really really hard to fail at modding a lotus . . . . but by god, he’s accomplished it!”

do V bands need to be welded on one side of the exhaust? I have regular C type clamps on my DP / catback i would like to swap out. I get a bit of a gas smell and i think those clamps are the reason. I have been meaning to have that looked at.

Yeah I think v-bands work with two flanges on either pipe that are welded on

yeah the v-bands have two dies that are welded onto the end of the pipe where its supposed to couple. The v-band clamp holds the dies together laterally, the contact of the face of the dies to each other provides the seal.

a c-clamp tries to seal by contacting the inner diameter of one pipe to the outer diameter of another, a far less effective method.

Just google v band flanges so you can get an understanding. Most are male and female and interlock, making them practically 100% leak proof and they are dummy proof as far as reinstalling!

I am taking a look at my logs and my JHM tuned, FI catback and piggies is not doing the same rpm/sec. What gear should the log be taken in at full throttle? I can’t remember but I think I did mine in 3rd gear. I did 2 runs and they both averaged 300rpm/sec during full throttle. My mass air flow readings were higher though, so was my timing angle by several degrees. I think I clicked on the turbo button also, should I be doing that?

Sorry to sidetrack the thread with questions, just trying to learn how to do the logs properly and ensure my car is running good with the exhaust and tune.

300rpm/sec sounds like 4th gear.

3rd gear, 1.5k to 7.2k WOT on a flat road, record weather conditions

003/020/021 baseline

email me the logs at beemercer@gmail.com if you want, I’ll take a look through them

Either way ill be there for my quest to the 12’s

excited to see this come together. One more guy in the 12s will be great. The fun really starts when you can get that cat back sorted out. I had real great results with my swap.

Thanks the all the positive feed back helps out so much with this car. Alot of ppl near me are your typical evo,sti owners and some who arent but give me lots of shit . Mainly cause im not turbo or cause my car is german. Its just nice to have some positvie fesd back in my mods and the direction if the ca.
Thanks ryan

Its an awesome car. Being fast is fun but letting evo/sti owners affect your happiness with the car won’t work well.

Scenario: you see a guy with a Gallardo lp560. Do you say ‘that one’s shit…the lp570 and new superleggera are the ones you want, and the 458 kills them all. Crap lamborghini’.

No. You say ‘fucking awesome car’.

You really think sti owners are looking at a $55,000 S4 going ‘I’d hate to be the guy who owns that…a turbo’d $34,000 evo is faster with mods’.

Fuck no. They’re saying ‘that’s an awesome car. Not the fastest, but plenty quick, awesome sounding and about 10 times nicer than my car.’

If they’re giving you shit its to make themselves feel better. I mean would you honestly trade for their shit sounding plasticy interior tin can build quality rattleboxes? They can be fast as shit but hell no.

This is so true and I just had this conversation with a buddy of mine over the weekend.

x2 Saki, nail on the head!

x3. Had this discussion many times. Just tell them “Maybe I’ll replace my Recaros with lawn chairs and put a 3ft wing on the S4 to make it as fast as your STI” … LOL

lol well we don’t want to bash other cars, and frankly everyone values something different.

The S4/RS4 are best at nothing. They’re good at lots of things. You can hoon it and have a blast, but you can also pick up a client and take them somewhere in comfort without them feeling embarassed. You can cruise around town very comfortably in the car with a touch of luxury and the highest quality build (although it has its problems like all complicated cars)…and you can take it to a dragstrip or road course where it will fit in quite nicely. You can then drive it home and take it to work or school the next day. This is really the Audi way. Not the fastest in a straight line (that’s the AMG C class cars usually), not the quickest on a track (that’s the M3)…but it does well at all tests and on top of that is still a performance car when it gets wet (or even snows) while the other contenders effectively become econoboxes in those conditions because if you push them , they get out of shape real quick.

I can also go to home depot in 12 seconds and come back with enough material to redo a bathroom
