whose 'full bolt on jhm' car is going up against this unitronic car?

seriously…the hot air intake has been proven to be a terrible fucking idea on these cars.

Here’s a great example for you…

Ok so I reaD the post but about 3 days ago I put the stock airbox in thE car. Now I need to get my k&n today then tada. just need a real catback lol. So close to being done for now lol.

good stuff. Too bad we didn’t get you to log the car before/after. Would have been damn interesting.

The plan is for 2 JHM cars to whoop up on this guy…lol I’m a little closer to the OP mod wise, but I am not lacking in the 2.5" exhaust department…FI 2.5" X-PIPE FTW

what’s your full mod list?

JHM tune / Milltek catless dp / FI 2.5” X-pipe cb / JHM LW front rotors / 034 silicone MAF hose / Apikol rear diff mount / Apikol snub mount / JHM intake spacer / TB heater bypass / JHM LWCP /

What would you want logged between the hot air and the stock box?

I could throw my strat intake back on and log vs my k&n stock box

003, 020, 021 3rd gear WOT pull from 1.5k rpm to 7.2k rpm on a flat road, record weather conditions

I’ll get these tomorrow. Should be pretty easy to get it done without too much time between, even with swapping the hot air intake on in between

the Milltek 2.5 downpipes neck down to 2.25 (and FI catback has an optional neckdown to 2.25) . Hopefully you’ve had that cut out and replaced with 2.5 stainless? That restriction is a bit of a waste of 2.5 goodness unfortuantely.

Ya man, I definitely wouldn’t have spent the cash and the time to not be a true full 2.5". I had Danny at FI weld Vbands on the front of the cat back, and then he sent me the male flanges. I cut the necked down portion off of my millteks and welded a 2.5" extension to mate up, it’s really clean, the vbands seal with no leaks every time, and it’s also nice to have for ease of removal.

I’ll put a picture of the setup in my profile… http://audirevolution.net/view-image/610/fi-2.5"-setup

^nice, thats how my 2.5" Milltek mashup was set up

thanks Beemercer, I take pride in my installs, and I hate band clamps on exhausts!!

Heres the two logs from tonight.

~Line 30 is where it starts in 3rd Gear
beem, make your fancy graph for us :stuck_out_tongue:

I did my best to try to insure the point in which I went WOT was exactly the same. I seemed to miss slightly the second time around as far as the starting point, but was pretty close.

Mod list : 2.5 catless DPs - 2.5" FI non res catback.

Here is weather information - this was within a couple hours of each other when I did the logs. Both times the car was completely cold, drove around to operating temp with about an extra 7-10 minutes of driving afterwards (was approximately 13 miles collectively until my “starting point” which was exactly the same) :

Lmeq, your car is running insanely strong for a non tuned car

Stratmosphere: 505 rpm/sec and a maximum of
Stock: 500 rpm/sec

So well within the margin off error. It would seem that with 2.5 exhaust and no tune, the intake is not the limiting factor on a high speed pull. Kind of what most of us were expecting I think.

thanks for doing the test, I’m excited to play around with the logs later

So the stock airbox was just about exactly the same as the aftermarket airbox? And this was on an ice cold day when heat soak isn’t nearly a factor (thus protecting the open element stratbox from it’s biggest weakness).

Interesting stuff. Can you imagine in the summer?

p.s. do you have the location of the road you used?

Latitude : 41.817765
Longitude : -88.070781

cool. Thanks for doing that test. It’s a pain in the ass and takes some effort, and you’re helping lots of S4 owners by doing so.

p.s. are you selling the strat intake?

Trying to at this point. I’ve only got up on the AZ Classifieds.

Figure if I can’t move it by the time I get my JHM tune I’ll go ahead and do the test again with that.
