Will it blend? (BritishTurbo build)

Some more that footage of Jay abusing his B5:

“people” are saying it because he launched it from around 3200 rpm

Interesting photo analysis Sak, it looks different than the log suggests. Either way he:

1.) achieved 4900 rpm then the throttle cut, bogging the car
2.) would benefit greatly from a 2-step which is readily available given his tuning method

I already have launch control / 2 step, as well as No Lift Shift in the tune.
I want to get the launch down without the 2 step first before I use it

Wasn’t expecting to break any records, but was a little annoyed when I looked at all my logs and saw the throttle cut lol.

At the end of the day the 60’ was 2.2 seconds, which sucks lol.
So the car and myself need a little practice there haha.

Even at a measly 1.8 60’ it would have been a low 11 time, with a 1.6 60’ it would have been in the 10s.
So it’s very encouraging.

One thing is for sure after watching those videos, I’m being too gentle on the car during launches for sure lol.

Who is telling you this? It’s bad information. There is no such ‘would have been’. You have to run something first. Just because the trap is way up doesn’t mean it will ever be anything. Your trap speed indicates that the car comes on like a freight train in 4th gear. It doesn’t indicate that other than the launch, after 60 feet there are no problems with the car. Who knows maybe your throttle parameters are for shit. The EPL big power cars all suffer this same fate. Poor tuning holds the cars back. Everyone blames the drivers or the track or whatever they want but reality is that it’s often the tune.

Look at tweets’ car. He did a quarter mile run a year ago using pbox and went 12.1 @ 130 on a serious downhill stretch of road. EPL tuned. He just rolled out but when I looked at his log he shifted well…it was just poorly tuned and the car was laggy coming into each gear. I told him this much last year. He called me an EPL hater instead of listening. This year he ditched the EPL tune and had great success this week. People underestimate how important the tuning is. They think it’s all about boost and dialing in the launch. You’re not losing a whole second on the launch. If you have a terrible launch you’re losing a few tenths and GAINING a couple MPH in most cases. So your 136 trap speed (where did the 137 come from??) is likely a 134 or so in reality. I reckon with some great driving AS YOUR CAR STOOD ON THAT NIGHT, you could have gone 11.20-11.30 @ 134.

p.s. when someone tells you the old “1 tenth on the 60’ =2 tenths on the 1/4 ET”, run away. They’re lying to you to make you feel better.

lol you are kidding right? I’m talking simple math here.
2.2 60’ minus 1.8 60’ is 0.4 seconds… 11.7 - 0.4 = 11.3
2.2 60’ minus 1.6 60’ is 0.6 seconds… 11.7 - 0.6 = 11.1

I’m not talking any “1 tenth on the 60’ =2 tenths on the 1/4 ET” just plain simple math.
If you really think the extra speed gained from that time in the 60’ wouldn’t have gained an extra 0.1 seconds on top of that then that’s fine mate
I guess we’ll see what she does next time.

And since you like to analyze things take a look at my slip vs Gurumans 10.5 slip.
Break it down into 330’ sections and tell me where he made the time.
1.0 seconds in the first 330’, or which 0.6 seconds was in the first 60’.

I know where I lost time, I know where the car lost time.
I also know there is a lot left in the car since I was only running 32psi, no nitrous and only did a No Lift Shift into 4th not the other gears.
I hope there’s a lot left in me too and I can get the launch and 1-2 shift down haha.

Don’t take what I just said the wrong way though, I’m glad you are interested in trying to help get the most from the car and myself, please don’t feel that I don’t appreciate that because I do.

Cheers.

It’s funny, you say things like this…and it’s as if you don’t think anyone will quote you

[quote]with a 1.6 60’ it would have been in the 10s.

Then when I remind you that this is bunk, you rally back with this

[quote]lol you are kidding right? I’m talking simple math here.

So if it’s simple math…were you suddenly shit at math 2 hrs ago when you said it was easy 10s? Make up your mind.

I told you up above that the whole ‘woulda coulda shoulda’ numbers you were throwing around are bullshit, and I asked who told you it. Then at the end I said the 1 = 2 thing is bullshit on an AWD Audi.

I’m not sure how long you’ve been running 1/4 mile lists for AWD Audis, but for me it has been about 4 years. In person I have maed around 200 passes in my Audis. I have also watched another 2000 passes by AWD Audis ranging from stock A4s to balls to the wall stage 3 B5 S4s and supercharged B7 RS4s. I guess you could argue with me or question me for something to do, but I’m just trying to help you get pointed in the right fucking direction and to ignore a lot of the niose that is holding you back. You instead want to be right and be defensive. Fine by me. Now we know you don’t want to be helped, you just want someone to pat you on the back and say way to go. So…way to go.

BT we all want to see you do well and are cheering for you. Some of the stuff you say is standard B5 stuff. You are one of the few that isn’t just regugattating something someone told you as a lie to pass on to the rest of us.

I think almost all of us are saying the samething and looking to help. Your right taht saki is looking to help and to keep you focused on what you need to do.

October 5th is my next time back at this same track…
Gives me lots of time to dial out the launch bugs on the car side and to get practice on my side.

I will take everything said above and see if I can’t make something happen next time

P.S. I never said 10s were easy, if it was easy everyone would be doing it!

Keep the car full interior and pull the bottle… I believe you when you say you don’t use it… I think othes do as well. Just knowing you have it on the car might make others question if it was used or not. You have made such great advancements you don’t want somehnig that dumb keeping people from reconiizing your time as ligit

your doing it right. its just the old I CAN’T drive thing gets old after the 2nd time at the track… If your going to use the excuse you can’t drive then learn how to drive…spending all the time building motors pulling htem in and out and iunstaling parts taking them on and off only to go test the car and say oh… the test went bad because I don’t know how to use the car…come off stale…137 is a great start.

I plan on keeping it full interior, it’s how I drive it so it should be how I race it.
And I’ll pull the bottle when not being used and have whoever is videoing the run start with the trunk to show it lol.

Point taken, practice practice practice for me

yes you look and sound like an actual nice guy. most b5 guys its painfull to watch them post and then lie and then cry and then cvover up and blame… AR isn’t a buntch of kids just actin glike cheeleaters even if your fucking up and never teling you. Get the first 330 down right and you will kill the rest of it… you can work on your own car so you can break it testing the launch and not have to worry about who is going to fix it…

Thanks, I try to be a nice guy lol.
Tis very true about working on it…

If there was such a thing as a fantasy 1/4 mile league of Audis I’d have no doubts you’d be the winner every year.

If I wanted advice on how to get my car in the 10s, I’d probably talk to someone who can tune a car and has been involved in fast builds and cars. There’s many here. Sak, I’m not trying to argue, but is your advice “dump the clutch at 6000 rpm”?

I think he should just run with a 2 step and antilag, and forget about the handbrake loading. These aren’t K04s, obviously his turbo can’t spool under 4000 (5000?) so it will always be difficult without other tools.

british, Not sure exactly where in PA you are but if you want to road trip and come to Thompson I’ll meet you out there… Supposed to race another B8 S4 on either Sat. Oct. 12th or 19th… I’ll be out every Sat. in Oct/Nov weather permitting… Looking forward to seeing you improve your times… I think the car has a lot more in it with a better launch… Thomspon hooks fairly well ;D

It’s funny, you talk shit about me giving him advice, and that he shouldn’t listen to me, he should instead listen to someone who has been involved in fast builds and cars. Then you proceed to give him loads of advice. So why should he listen to you? Because you put a tune and pulley and race gas in your b8? because you borrowed your dad’s ferrari to run low 12s? because you have a garage full of busted cars that don’t run? What qualifies you, under your system where people aren’t allowed to help BT?

I pointed him AWAY from the morons on audizine who are feeding him bad advice, and pointed him TO the video Jason from JHM put out 5 years ago to help B5 guys like BT launch their cars. Jason back then went 11.1 @ 129. He has since gone 10.8 @ 130. Does he qualify?

read the photos post I made above jspazz and you might not be so argumentative. BT didn’t launch at 4500. He simply launched in the low 3000s and bogged the fuck out of it. Everyone wants to believe there’s a conspiracy and that something is wrong with the car, but he just fucked up. Simple. Watch the video inside. Watch the video outside. He’s nowhere near boost, so he’s going to launch like a stock 2.8 A4 since that’s basically what power he has at those RPMs. If he insists on launching at super low boost, at least slip the clutch and slide out rather than dropping the clutch and bogging like mad. So far I’m the only one to tell him the hard truth.

If I were him, I would do EXACTLY what I showed him in the JHM video I posted when he launches his car. That video was made by the guy who is universally regarded as the best driver in the B5 S4 world. I would also stop making silly ‘woulda coulda shoulda’ comments. it’s almost reading like ‘hey I built a great car, so since I trapped XXX I am going to put myself down for a 10’. That’s what the EPL tuned guys with giant Tials used to do.

Hey BT, what you’re using is the “standard” 2 step and antilag available, then, not the “rev limiter” solution?

IIRC it’s a ignition spark cut to hold RPM, and not a retarded ignition 100% throttle scenario…

Why practice launches without it? What sort of pressure are you seeing with it, about 15 psig?

You can say what you want but the logs clearly show rpms were RISING until the ECU cut the throttle, then the rpms dropped down to about 3000 until the throttle went back up to 100% from the ecu.

That’s the only part I disagree with you on.

I can label the ecu log if it helps.

That’s a 4 hr trip for me… I’m in Central PA, State College area.
