Will it blend? (BritishTurbo build)

Welcome back.

So what’s the setup going to be?

big single 64, no nitrous? Or nitrous?

what’s the pittsburgh classic…they have a drag strip event there too? It’ll be horrifying all the VWs running 10 seconds and trapping a million. You’ll really need to step up to represent Audi!

2.7 with the 6466 Single.
Nitrous will be on the car… if I use it or not that will be another question lol.
I’m also going to see if I can get on the dyno near the track the same day as well.

Cheers

.

Dat’s one big turbo lol. From a scoobie forum:

I love a point of reference, especially this one ^^^^

Lee, is Mr Chesney joining you? Weren’t you trying to get him to go? I think we all know he prefers the highway so I’m sure he’ll take a rain check.

Admire your determination and persistence! Photo next to a pint of milk please, for reference lol

He’s in America. They don’t do pints. They do gallons.

Well they have Quarts here. Which is 2 pints… so that would work lol.

Went to the track today…
I need a lot of practice… only got 2 real runs in.
This was the best run. 11.7@137mph (rounded)

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q755/britishturbo/IMG_20130914_131544_371_zps69e28b76.jpg

That’s a horrendous 60’ (no offense) and an awesome mph.

What’s up in the first two gears. What is holding you back? Talk about your launch technique … There’s enough people here who can help you with some experience t get more out of the car.

Bottom line is that cars who trap massive numbers but run the et of a car 15 mph slower need work, and I would like to see this rectify itself. 137 would be 134 with a good launch… And that should be good for 10.65 or so with the 01e.

Got a video?

Here’s a video…

You can see in 1st how it bogged really bad off the line, this kinda confused me as it shouldn’t have.
I do need a lot of practice yet at the track to get he launch right… but in looking at the logs the ECU freaked out for some reason and cut the throttle.
You can see it in this image here:

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q755/britishturbo/throttle_zps4c7793ad.png

The throttle pedal was 100% the whole time so the throttle angle should have been too but it dropped down to 18% which caused the revs to drop and kill the 60’.

So i need to find and fix that problem and then get some practice in.

You’re great. Keep it up!!

BT tbis post was more helpful. It makes sence with the data y9u gave why the csr would get stuck into the 11.7 range…

Im always honest…even to the point where if you dont like homesty you will get effected.

Right now going 137 is great puts you in the top spot. The 11.7 is piss slow. The car is coming off as a terrible build looking like it’s laggy. It is hard to show you can build parts but not push the gear selector into a position fast enough.after seeing y9ur videos the driving excuse isnt going to hold up…

A suggestion. Pull the bottle out and show its out in your videos.with all the dishonest b5 guys liying ablit boost and mods it might he good to ditch the bottle to avoid excuses

Haha I’ll be sure to show the bottle isn’t in the trunk next time… this time it was there but shut off.
I could have used the nitrous but I want to find the limits of the car (and driver) without it first.

If you watch the video from the outside you’ll see how bad the launch was thanks to the throttle cut, it was only a 2.2 60’ after all.

No doubt you’re making power but I reckon your efforts in the near future should be focused on low down power and torque.

That nitrous should be used to spool you up…I’ve gotta assume that was the intent, doesn’t look like you need anything up top.

It’s setup exactly for that. I’m just not using it at the track until I hone the rest of my technique and find the limits with just boost

You need a lesson in launching the b5. Immediately. You’re launching at far too low rpm with no spool. So it’s like you’re launching a 3600 lb Awd car with 180 hp and similar torque. Not going to do anything but bog. Needs more rpm and revs momentum.

Go watch this.

http://www.streetfire.net/video/launching-101_168121.htm

That makes sense. You launched at 5000 rpm, not sure why people are saying you need more than that. What you need is a 2-step, is that not easily done with your flash (it is, not a question I guess, why aren’t you using it?).

And that makes sense, what the nitrous is for, and why you aren’t using it yet…sounds neat (so what is it, progressive from 3000-5500?).

Really what you need is the 2 step to drop your 60’ to something reasonable. Should put you low-11s. Then you need to figure out an antilag program or no-lift shift since you are falling so badly out of spool. Or run that bottle…>8^)
