Would you bother?

Would you bother with this car for its engine? Is got 40K miles but a real hard hit in the front. Airbag deployed, so engine is listed as a no start but Im wondering if you think it survived. If I can get the car cheap enough it would be worth it. Whats more strange is the car was originally purchased in 2011, has had the windshield replaced and thats it.

You’d have to think getting hit that hard in the front end would cause possible damage to the motor. I’d check to see if anything actually made contact with the front side of the motor.

I mean it definitely made contact with the engine, you can see its tilted up in the front. Unfortunately this is a copart auction tomorrow and this car was just put up.

I’ve got nothing to back my thoughts on this other than feelings. My motor confidence level with something hitting the face of the motor like that would be quite low. I can’t believe that with how tight the tolerance levels are on some of these new motors that they’re not effected if hit that hard.

+1. I reckon by the time you’ve been through the motor with a fine tooth comb, been to hell and back trying fix stuff, you might as well have gotten a rebuilt motor for the same money.

Out of interest, have you contacted people about refurbished motors? Like jhm. Not sure who else would be able to give you a quote.

If you can get the car cheap enough you can make your money back by selling the parts that are still okay.

Make you money back and worst case scenario have a badass coffee table.

I don’t understand the goal…clearly its fucked. Is it eeally worth what…a grand or two…to gamble on that?

Must have been a high hit. The A pillars and doors look nearly intact.

That thing got hit high and hard. Went right over the frame rails and into the motor. With the angle the motor is sitting at I’m sure it got ripped off the mounts or cracked the block or something terrible.

Maybe you could buy both RS4’s on copart to rebuild one.
This one already has a salvage title though…

As others have figured out, to purchase part out and possibly have a good engine. The prebid is stupid low right now and the parts are easily worth more. I also need a avus drivers door (mine is dented/scuffed) and mirror cap and my bumper needs a repaint. All of which are readily available in this car.

Im more wondering what everyone thinks the chances of the engine being good are. As others have stated it wouldnt be optimal to be driving around with an engine that took such a bad hit but it is pretty damn far in the crumple zone so maybe it didn’t really get hit that hard.

I was considering it if the price was low enough but Im going to bet that black one gets up toward 13-14k. I already have a car, just need an engine. This might be cheaper then importing one. But it was definitely the back of a truck or something and missed the crash bar.

anyone notice a resemblance between my avatar and the front vents/reflectors?

That’s evilb’s old car. I used one of his photos to make my avatar 3 years ago when I bought my RS4. He put Ti grille, and Ti wheels on the car, tinted it, and painted those reflectors. I loved his car.

He also had black rear emblems…did this car?

That was my guess as well with the salvage title. I was thinking of bidding on it but I still need to fax in our dealer licenses and I’m not a fan of black

Interesting Saki, this does have black rear emblems and a painted set of rings. And the CF lip made me think it was a forum members car, part of the reason I posted. Doesn’t appear the car was ever in NC judging by the carfax though.

Seems a huge co-incidence.

2007
Avus
painted side-markers
black rear emblem
painted black rear rings
ti grill
same dark tint

Avus went for 5k and black went for 12,600. Lower than I expected

well unless you’re selling body parts like doors and trunk and stuff, it’s tougher than people think if the front end is destroyed.

wheels
interior seats
steering wheel+airbag
RNSe
a few other electrical items like sat module, power seat module etc
interior switches if in good shape
body panels, hopefully not wrinkled
shifter
exhaust
downpipes
o2 sensors

I’ll take the rear window shade system if anyone’s selling one

The thing with copart is even though it ended at a certain bid, if there was a reserve (most of the private sales are) then the seller can counter offer your bid and try to get a few more bucks.

^ Yep, annoying at times. The reserve is usually absurd too.
