That car ran a 10.9 sec 1/4 yesterday.
which car is it? Can’t see the video.
.
edit just watched it.
800 whp = 10.9 now? hmmm…
What’d it trap? Better be 10.9 @ 160 with an easy rollout 3 second sixty foot.
No 2.7 no care.
Thanks. I almost clicked the link.
Funny, I was about to post that…
Car is for sale on 6Speed… http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/automobiles-sale/282733-fs-794whp-10-second-full-interior-audi-b5-vr6-avant-black-manual.html
I think that’s so cool to see an avant go 137mph… I bet he was the only station wagon that day going that fast, lol.
lol 796 whp 3700 lb car equals 137 mph trap? Only in the world of Audi scammers. Fucking funny. Funnier still is that nobody will call them out on it because the majority of the B5 world is so out of touch with what trap speeds ought to tell them about the power a car is making.
I would love to see someone ask how the car is making 250 whp more than other cars who have trapped that.
Eh, I don’t agree with that really… The guy clearly said, I’m not a good 1/4 mile driver, so if you’re good at it you can go faster. Not from personal experience, but being around many with a lot of experience, the faster the car is the harder it is to get it down the track. 137mph is FAST IMO. 800WHP fast? Probably not, but still it is a full to the brim interior WAGON. I do some tuning work for a shop in Stamford and they have some crazy ass cars, and most recently just because I was with the guy yesterday, Eddie Bello who has a 1200WHP Porsche that is gutted and went 9.1 @ 166 misfiring up top this past weekend at MIR.
the guys always say that they’re not a good driver when the car runs a time that is miles from the dyno. Just ask any EPL tuned AMD built Tial driver…they all become ‘terrible’ drivers, but only when they run something disappointing.
How bad can you really be at the quarter mile? The guy launched it great in case you missed it. He cut a 1.6 sixty foot time, shifted well, and went WOT to the post. It’s not like he cut a 3 second 60 foot and rolled through 1 and 2, then got out of it at the 1000 foot mark. He was on it all the way. Sure he could pick up some MPH if he power shifted…but what…2 mph maybe 3? Not the 20 or so that he ought to have shown.
Not sure what Eddie Bello has to do with anything, but show him this thread next time you see him and he’ll laugh at a car claiming that it makes 900+ crank hp but traps 137 with good driving. He may choke on his own tongue laughing, so have EMS on hand.
Lol… I mentioned it because you’re saying 800WHP should have another 20mph on a 3700lb car, where his 1200WHP Porsche that is the fastest in the world right now that is a gutted track car went 166mph. So you’re saying 800WHP should go upper 150’s at 3700lb? If this was Guru’s car going 137 I could see the argument because his car is much lighter than 3700lbs…
I have only been to the track in my own car twice in my life, so I don’t have a whole lot of experience with these numbers just being around people when they talk about it. Whatever the case is, 137MPH is fast in my books, I’d be happy doing that in my grocery getter… Except I don’t like avants really
1200 whp 911 with who knows what transmission/gearing vs. 800 whp B5 with an 01E transmission is irrelevant. You can’t compare them because gearing changes everything. I have seen drag cars go 9s at high 130s mph…and I’ve seen turbo civics go 8 seconds at 170mph…and none of them mean anything since many of the domestic drag cars are running 2 speed GM powerglide transmissions.
Gearing on Guru’s car, which went 10 mph faster than this car with 200 whp less power is far more relevant since they both have the 01E. Or JHM’s RS6R car that trapped 131. Or the Count Vohn VAST GT car that trapped in the 130s on the 01E (making nowhere near 800 whp).
For the record, nobody is saying 137 isn’t fast…it’s just not 800 whp + 01E + decent driving fast.
I went 138 on the bottle with less than 600 whp in a b5 s4 so in this thread I fully agree with saki.
This is a prime example of you getting worked up and unnecessarily hounding something (acting like this NEEDS to be called out and nobody else but you is willing to do it.) This guy/build is the last thing that you should feel obligated to ‘call out about the power it’s making.’ He’s not an Audi scammer of anything, doesn’t sell dyno sheets, isn’t shoving his times in people’s faces, isn’t calling other people out, etc etc. He’s a guy who DIY built a car, took it to a local dyno, took his own dyno #'s and FATS #'s with a grain of salt (see here http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/284024-The-luxury-of-AWD?p=7555859&viewfull=1#post7555859 ), took the car to the track and who is now selling his personal car. His car technically is an ~800whp car, because it put down ~800whp on a dyno, period. The car simply put down what it put down, it ran what it ran at the track, and it is what it is. There is nothing untruthful nor deceptive (nor arrogant or whatever else) about what he has said. The only one getting worked up about dyno numbers is you; everyone else is taking the dyno numbers for what they are (a tuning tool that shouldn’t be explicitly compared to other dynos in other places under different conditions).
The guy has a lax attitude about the dyno numbers, about the 1/4mi and about his car, and the car itself is like one of the top 10 fastest Audi’s in North America, yet you still feel the need to try to call him out for something.
I love you Jared, but who cares (what a K03 or k04 car with nitrous did on some random dyno in comparison to a BT VR6 car)?
We are simply comparing raw power to claimed power and trap speeds on a clean run to dyno whp which ironically enough are completely comparable. I will give a little slack for numerous reasons and hence I’m not hear to talk shit. One, the car is pretty sick, two probably a little heavy and laggy which are a bad combo for trap speeds and third maybe he is just slow like he says. Whatever.
If this was a 2.7 build it would probably not be for sale, it would be broken. J/k
I don’t know the owner of that powerful avant, but if I did I would have walked up to him and congratulated him on running a 10 sec pass, something that I haven’t accomplished, something that only a selected few have done and I’m pretty sure his car will run faster in the future with practice.
I am not a fan of the vr6 swap and I don’t think that they should be compared to a 2.7 or a 2.8. I think that they should only run 10’s or better with that swap and if not, the swap is a flop until it has been accomplished.
I think that a 800whp car should be running 2sec faster than a 600whp big turbo s4 which we all know should be averaging about an 11.5 pass in the 1/4
[quote=“Snow_Trooper,post:15,topic:3633”]
There’s nothing to give it slack for. There is no ‘claimed’ power. It ran on a dyno, posted a video and a plot of it, ran it on the track, posted a slip and a video. It put down what it put down; it ran what it ran; it is what it is.
Um, its being called 800 wheel by everyone including the owner.
That’s not a ‘claim’, it actually ran on a dyno and put down what it put down, which was 794whp on that dyno at that time. Take it for what it’s worth, just like any other peak dyno number (including yours).
Jibberjive quit being such a fucking apologist
He is most certainly MAKING CLAIMS…he is selling his 12 year old a4 for thirty fucking grand…and is doing so on the basis of it mking veyron power…& anyone who can read knows that…and anyone who knows the quarter mile knows his story about “you will go faster if you are a good driver” is a crock. He launched it well and drove it well and fact is his trap speed is low and isn’t going to magically change if you are a good driver . ET maybe…but traps aren’t drastically different
If you don’t understand that the power, weight and gearing of other B5 quarter mile times like snow trooper or the others are TOTALLY relevant well then I’m not sure why you are interjecting here.
