Wtf how many track days are u guys getting out of a set of tires?

Cause seriously, I can get 4 before the tread is so far gone it is no longer safe for street use. If I use them to the cord, 5, maybe 6 tops. This is with rotation each track day and even dismounting and flipping them to use the other edge of the tire. This is painfully bad :frowning: how do gtr guys deal with this. Tires aren’t cheap XD

Stockers lasted 2 days. And they aren’t dying from understeer or lack of camber. The car can rotate quite a lot. They are just dying from being driven hard and supporting a 4000lb German Camry :frowning:

I got about 8 days on Pilot Sport Cup 2. I think I could have gone 10 if I wasn’t abusive on the last weekend. They were about as grippy the last weekend as the first. Very consistent.

I have done a few track days a while ago on the stockers. And thats a bad idea as you mentioned. They were sport tires but they were not up to long term abuse. I did one track event on newish tires and they were about done after the day. I would guess it would depend on how many laps and just how hard your pushing the car.

Im not a big track guy but I dont think being a better driver would have saved my tires any more would it… I would think you guys would be harder on tires then me due to my noobish track experience.

Then there is Jezza from top gear. For him it looks like most tires dont even make it one full lap.

That’s what happens when you run a pig on the track lol. They’re great cars and a lot of fun, but light weight they are not!

I did 7 days on my PSS and they are fine in the middle, but sidewall is kind of done. They are my DD tires.

The ZII’s have 8 track days and look great. I imagine I’ll get another 6 days at least You are driving a lot faster than me

Brake pads on the other hand have been vanishing for me. Hoping these new xp24’s are the business.

My Bridgestone’s barely lasted a year (so 6-7 days + daily driving).

PSS seems to be holding up better (but I’ve also since run more negative camber - so saving the outside shoulder).

Which tracks did you go to close to se Michigan? I think g-man kills tires while mid Ohio can be mild on tires if you don’t over drive the car. Grattan seems somewhere inbetween. I only did one day at Waterford, never again lol

How are you guys destroying tires that fast?

My PSS tires have held up to a few road course days, probably close to 60 drag strip passes, and 20K miles. Still have half tread life or more left.

lol i have the same question.
HOW are you guys getting 6+ days out of tires! Whaaaat.
Even going to a big sweeping track like Mosport (Canadian tire motorsports park), I kill the tires.
They kinda sacrifice themselves as you dive into a corner (even if it’s a sweeper) and scrub away. Looking at my telemetry data (from HLT), I’m doing 1.3G in a few of the corners (but usually more like 1.1 to 1.2g). That’s what, 8000+lbs for the tires to handle at speed. With that in mind, it makes sense that the tires die so quickly. brb drilling holes in the car body for weight reduction :frowning:

Srsly doe, this car is so bad on consumables. I go through tires every season–which is ok, and expected. But this thing–I need to go through TWO sets of tire each season if I am to follow with most of the competition schedule out there for time attack.

I cooked my street pirelli tires in 2.5 events, Only have one event on the R888s right now so my vote is not in on that yet.

I corded and chunked my OE ContiSportContact 3’s in 4 track days. Tires totally destroyed. Then the Pilot Sport Cup 2’s still looked very good after 4 track days and I expected they would last me 8 (now sold). Same deal as West, maybe they would go 10 but for safety sake and for the sake of not ending a weekend early I probably would have stopped at 8 or 9.

Drob, I think if you switch to Pagid endurance pads you’ll get a lot more life out of them. I have seen reports from many different platforms about the Carbotech’s not lasting very long. Sure, they are cheaper per set but they may ultimately cost you more. I hope the xp24’s are a better match and last a bit longer than the previous sets though! GL.

My brembo endurance pads seem like they’re past the 50% mark after 9 track days. I’ll likely replace in January just to start the new season fresh.

Yea, might be a good idea to try out the Pagid endurance pads. Carbotech also has an endurance pad, but supposedly for much smaller vehicles. I was told by carbotech that the xp24 lasted twice as long as the xp20 in some endurance race they were run in. I’ll make sure to report back.

One of my main goals is to avoid any drama while swapping between street/track pads. I’ve read some bad stories about street pads chunking.

Its not days or miles…but heat cycles that you should be measuring for a track tire.

Totally with you on this. With Z2’s, they last a ton of heat cycles. I can tell you right now that the tread is gone before the compound has given up the ghost

I think it’s safe to assume 1 day is 4 heat cycles. I don’t know if I’d count Tire Rack’s heat cycle as a heat cycle. You could probably do a lot of those and not cord the tire. The reality is most of us are destroying the fronts from scrub well in advance of the maximum number of heat cycles.

Still don’t understand why you don’t rotate your tires front/rear after the first day of a 2 day event.

And regarding heat cycles…that probably heavily depends on the tire. I assume street tires will do fine until the wear gets substantial, while something like a barley treaded r-comp would be measured by heat cycles. But then lots of guys run those to the cords…I’m assuming the performance degrades quite a bit after they heat cycle out.

Conventional assumptions don’t hold up to the tire chemistry in the Sport Cup 2. It’s a damn miracle tire.

I treat tires like they’re staggered. They’re going to wear a particular way and that’s fine with me, as long as I get 12 months out of them.

So you don’t rotate your tires because: (1) you think it’s a waste or can’t be bothered; (2) you don’t own a jack; (3) you don’t know how to?
