Your enthusiasm is great man, but I think you should get a compression test done by someone that you trust before you dump more money into mods. You can throw all the free flowing exhaust and tunes at an engine, but if your motor isn’t healthy it’s pointless. I’m not trying to rain on your parade…just helping you think logically and not end up wasting a bunch of money in the end.

Good lookin I definitely will, I think it was just the type of test he did. I remember him saying something about it but I wasn’t paying attention so I don’t recall exactly. I’m sure its fine but I definitely want to do it again so I can see the actual results since whatever he did wasn’t the best way.

Numbers may vary if the motor is not up to temperature or if the starter wears down the battery. There aren’t many “ways” to do a compression test that I have seen so I’m not sure what he is talking about.

Got her back from body shop… (USP blades painted and installed, passenger front and rear door painted, nothing you could notice so I didn’t take a picture it was just to fix some scratches)

For some reason from the time it left me from VW to body shop it was just barely having the smallest trouble going in 1st. I pick it up from the body shop, and it won’t even go in reverse and EVERY gear is damn near impossible to get into except 5th and 6th and even they have to be pushed more than should be needed to engauge. I find it weird that this is such a drastic change from before I dropped it off to barely having the tinest hard time in 1st, to have my shit not working. This sucks…

Check the adjustments on your JHM short shift, your body shop may have found it weird and tried to fix it…i doubt it but check it anyway

Dude thats it! It has to be because I just noticed when I was in the car it will find the gear if its in the right place I have to play with it but once I find it I can pop it back and forth like it should in and out of gear. But then when I start the car its off and I can’t find any gears, I wonder if the vibration makes it worse. That has to be it because if a synchro was bad it wouldn’t be able to find any gear at all.

Thank you Lout!, if you hadn’t said anything I would not of gone out to check and they might of tryed to slip a transmisson on me for no reason. I went in an talked with the tech. Apparently he moved what I think is the JHM solid linkage because that is what was hitting my speed sensor causing my speedo to work intermitently. So I’m going to take it in Monday to have it adjusted.

FML. Went in to check the linkage and it was fine, so I called M Hood and he reccomended bleeding it again so I paid shop to bleed it with no results here are my cars symptoms which I am told will require transmission removal to find the culprit.

Will not go into gear with the car on, only when its off and even then reverse is sometimes working.

Car will move when its in gear and the clutch pedal is to the floor.

The clutch has kevlar disc and was told these will not bind to flywheel or break since its not organic disc.

Thats all I can think of for now, not sure what I’m going to do at this point as I don’t have the money after doing cams and all the other repairs. Also my clutch was put in at 114k, now I am at 118k.

Sounds like hydraulic issues, does the clutch pedal have any play at the top? Was release bearing replaced at same time?

The pedal feels fine, I replaced the slave at 114 when I did the clutch and replaced the master at 118 when i did my cams, genuine parts installed by dealer. Bled 3 times, and I watched the 3rd one yesterday. If the release bearing is the same thing as a throwout bearing then yes that came new with the clutch and flywheel kit from Clutch Masters. I think I’m just going to have to drop the transmisson, shop for a new clutch. And if it turns out I have transmission issues I’ll replace it with another used one with even lower miles, i found one with 50k I think would be good if it came down to that. My tech also told me that he could tell my slave was working very hard and if I drive the car the slave will likely break, that didn’t make sense to me since its new.

So it turns out 2 of my pressure plate bolts have backed out causing my pressure plate to only be half touching and causing the car to not engage gears when its on. The shop that did my clutch in July not only failed to properly bleed my system but for some reason decided to not use the pressure plate bolts that came with the Clutch masters kit. And on top of all that, CM’s decided to give me a 6 puck racing clutch which has been on the car for almost 4k. I originally ordered a stage 2 kit specifically designed to have longer life. Obviously Stage 4 pressure plate is beyond overkill for what my plans are and how the car sits now which is basically stock. As you can see from my pictures the pressure plate bolts that came on the kit are black and the bolts that were on it when pulled are not. Sorry for the shitty phone pics I lost my Razr so I’m using a back up phone.

After a lot of BS I was able to get the correct clutch I ordered from CM to replace the stage 4 they sent me but since they no longer use the FX200 I have the FX250 now. I was really undecided about ditching the CM kit and going with JHM but I really don’t have time to wait for it to sell so I’ll use what I have plus I know how this feels and it has no chatter which is what I wanted and I’m willing to sacrifice acceleration for it. So this is the setup thats going in as soon as I get the shop that screwed up to pay for it which is hopefully soon, I think I’m going on 6 months now…

Well I changed my mind and decided to go with the RS4 kit and LWFW from JHM. Since my car has been on the rack so long since I dropped the transmisson the shop wanted to start charging me time for holding up the lift so I didn’t have time to even ship it next day so I drove down to JHM today and picked it up, had a chance to meet Keaton and chat about mods for the 3.0 which helped me to finally have a clear plan of what I want for my car now that I know what I can do so that was pretty cool a, they have a pretty sick shop as I’m sure everyone knows but it was cool for me to get to check it out for the first time and see all the beautiful Audi’s in the parking lot. I might even be back down there in the next few weeks to pick up a couple more things if funds allow. So, I’ll be loosing quite a few more lbs with this flywheel so it will be interesting to see what that feels like as well as the clutch. It should go in within the next few days I hope and who knows maybe I’ll finally get my car back. Anyways, heres some eye candy …

So your still dumping money…have you got that second compression test yet?

Like I told you previously… to each his own, but after all the money that you dump into this A4…you could have had a pretty nice S4. Then you wouldn’t have to struggle to find mods to maybe get you in the 14s

I’m not struggling to do anything I didn’t buy this car to be fast, I bought the exact car I wanted and I’m doing exactly what I want to it so it handles, drives, and looks how I want and I’m just about where I want to be. My car hasn’t been out of the shop yet but yea I’m going to have him do the compression again after the clutch is done. Hopefully this week but who knows I haven’t had my car for 6 months. Its funny how everyone always says just sell this car buy that car, or for the price of that you could of done this. I think its a lot easier for most people to slowly do what they want to their car vs selling it and buying something else. Sure theres lots of other cars I would take over this one but its just not realistic to just switch cars and plus I love my car its more than enough for what I need and want. If I did ever sell this car I hate to say it but I would probably buy a G35 or G37S just because I’ve never had a RWD car and I think they are absolutely beautiful.

I love the “for all the money you spent, you could have bought…”. Yeah, but could it pay for the difference in maintenance, insurance, gas, etc.? Not to mention, if you have the car paid off, or are close to it, spending $2k to fix it is a lot cheaper than spending $2k and buying a new car. It’s money that gets paid once, and you’re done. You don’t have more payments after that on top of the other costs. I’d love to have a B6/B7 S4, but I wouldn’t love more car payments and higher insurance that would come with it, and any number of unknown headaches waiting to happen.

Exactly IMNUTS well said, i didn’t feel like typing a whole story out because there are always lots of things to consider. I wanted to ask you, Hows that tune been? I am probably going to buy it in a couple weeks.

I didn’t really want to type up a life story either on what I paid and put into this car but I get deals on everything I do, I always wait for the right moment to do things. Just to give an idea I do own this car, and as you see it in the first post was how I bought it for 3600$, the only major thing needed was synchros and other than that just window regulators, new windshield and small stuff like that. Point is i’m not sitting as bad as most people think that i’m putting 4 and 5 times the value of what this car is into it, when really i’m not. And I do think my car books higher than other 02 03’s, given the factory mods and maintenence i’ve done to it properly.
