I guess we shall see, I know an epl tuned b5 that’s definitely faster than mid 11’s
By no means am i saying they are the best, just sick of people talking shit about a company because they have xyz generic flash and nothing can compete
I don’t think anyone was saying this. EPL has an established reputation in the acceleration testing arena - namely, as Sak said, they’re just mediocre.
Saxon I don’t want you to think im coming at you. Epl has zero strong 11second b5 car and considering they have been selling b5 tunes for ovsr 7 years thats sad…epl has been the poster for dyno sheets and no street performance. Most b5 cars epl or apr are fast off a roll. Thats the issue guys think they are faster then the6 really are…ams is huge epl isn’t. Ams has been a proven power house epl hasn’t. Ams has a great performance history epl doesn’t.
Ams using epl just shows no home work and isn’t helping instill comfidence…ams is known for great hardware maybe even weak tuning can shine here.
In the b8 epl was bragging about keepimg the cooling pump running…that was exciting…3 years earlier when apr did it first…out of all the companys ams could have gone with…then factor that amd a deadend shop with next to no customers dropped epl as a tuning supporter…it just looks bad…I think we all thought ams was bigger then this…
Shoot the plane down before it takes off, never giving it a chance to complete it’s flight.
If anyone knows the work AMS does and has done, they would have no problem standing behind anything they release. Once again as I have stated before tuning a car is NOT NEW and everyone acts as though APR GIAC are the only ones who know how to tune Audis and VAG cars.
Sure, APR and GIAC have more experience with these German brands, does not mean no one else can tune a direct injected engine.
I say you unbunch your panties and let the competition get fiercer, in the end, we all benefit.
Don’t list already fast turbo cars they upped boost request on to gain power. Show me RELATIVE performance gains that make them better than their competitors who can also up boost request. This is where EPL has failed.
They have sucked at tuning audis in the past. Whether that’s the b5, the b6/7, the b7 rs4 or the AMD RS4 SC kit (AMD dumped EPL after the 1900 supercharger at 16 psi went 12.1 @ 120 only to go 11.3@126 with a different tuner 2 weeks later).
The plane is not EPL, it is the product as a whole that will be released. EPL has no serious offerings for the B8 S4 that I am aware of. Yes historical data can show trends, but I am more of a forward thinker and will let them prove theirselves in this new adventure before using this historical data to shoot them down before they either fail or succeed on their own.
This thread is not about EPL it is about AMS and the product they will release, if EPL is part of that product then it needs to be discussed as a whole and not an EPL bashing thread.
AMS will not release garbage. They will also back all their offering a with track times.
I cannot deny that a lot of people have some bad examples and evidence to indicate the EPL has not proven themselves, but once again this is not about EPL this is about AMS.
If AMS is not happy with EPL’s performance, the outcome will most likely be similiar. I have no doubt AMS will do whatever it takes to make the car as fast as possible for what is out there.
Saxon, Bring some facts to the table please… I said nothing in this post until it was mentioned that EPL will be the “tuner” for AMS… That tells me they, AMS, don’t really want to invest the time, effort and money into the platform so they partner with EPL… Based on what has been seen from EPL over the years and even more recently with the RS4 blower tune that they couldn’t do their a joke… They launched a B8 tune with no data or support… Few folks on vendorzine talked about how awesome it was but no one will share logs, 60-130’s or 1/4 times… What does that tell you? Also, don’t give me this BS that they have only had the tune out for a few months… I had my car at the strip the week APR released the tune… Find me a EPL customer with a B8 and I’ll cover his/her entrance fees to the strip and gas if you can get them to go… I’ll also lend them my vagcom cable and cover freight both ways if they are willing to log and share with the forums…
As for us APR leg humpers, lets see they had a tune about 1-2 years before anyone… Sorry, I wanted my car faster and didn’t want to wait so I went with them, and glad I did… The also were first to market on a pulley and will be first on stage III… They owned multiple B8’s and raced one in certified events, who else does that in the B8 market? Is APR perfect? Nope the original tune was fairly week and when users gave them good feedback they fixed it… The same is happening with GIAC now albeit 2+ years later they are finally listening to their customers input… APR had issues with the pulley tune for DSG when it first came out… Guess what they fixed it in about a week and covered everyone’s cost for the issue… Sure they have been working on stage III for a long time and people are dissappointed it has taken so long including me, however I know it will be a good product that works well when it comes out and if there are issues they have already proven to work with me and others to correct the issues… Want to talk about Revo and their issues and how they resolve(d) them? LOL
IMO you seem to be a APR hater more than anything and are doing well to prove that… So who’s tune are you running? What kind of times are you seeing? Let me guess your not tuned and the dragstrip and data analysis are a waste… Again, come back and talk when you have experience and some facts to back your talk up like most of us B8 guys on here do…
Jeff, I hope your right bud, but farming the tuning out to EPL screams to me that they don’t want to really invest in the platform just leverage their brand name via another tuner and there several years behind GIAC and APR… Stick with GIAC bud their treating you right and your car runs great… Until we see some logs and such from EPL I wouldn’t run their tune if they paid me… Shutting off the safeguards has already proved to be bad for these motors just ask Revo… lol
I never said anything about jumping ship, all I said was I was excited to see what is to come out of this. I also stated I am sure if EPL does not deliver that AMS will drop them. Just like any other business venture.
AMS is in the business to deliver. They offer STOUT offerings on ALL their model lineups. Whether they are the ABSOLUTE fastest is a moot point. They offer quality, performance, and reliability, something WE ALL appreciate.
There is NO reason they would vary on the 3.0 TFSI platform. Prime, I know what it looks like to you about them not being serious, but based on everything AMS(NOT another company) has done they are only about, time, money, effort, and seriousness. Buying three cars is a pretty big investment on its own(money, platform), let alone spending any time on three different motors(time, money, effort, platform), investing hour after hour(time, money, effort), only to fail? Not like AMS’ track record SO FAR.
If howeve, they do not come through, it would be the first time for AMS, as far as I know.
Jeff, Some good points that I wouldn’t argue… Again, when I first saw this post I was excited as well until I heard EPL would be tuning… As was mentioned previously, they tuned the AMD RS4 and it ran a 12.1 then UM got invloved and ONLY tweaked the tune and the car went 11.3… Also, with ZERO data on EPL for the B8 the jury is still out on their tune and when data was asked for the ran and hid… Go look at their old launch post on vendorzine… I guess my point is AMS is hitching their future in the Audi market to a company with a bad reputation with not so good results in the Audi world… I hope I am wrong as the competition will help but if I want a tune why go AMS vs EPL directly? Will they offer a warranty IE like APR/Stasis did? Just don’t see a compelling reason to run the AMS tune via EPL’s tuning…
Yes, that’s great. You keep thinking the forum is saying that AMS sucks. Nobody once said that.
Everyone is saying they’ve done very well, but that EPL as their chosen tuner is a shit choice. You for some reason, as well as Saxon, are reacting emotionally as if you have family who work at AMS, and you’re discrediting this ENTIRE FORUM because people are pointing out that EPL is an epic failure in the world of Audi tuners.
If AMS does well, it will be DESPITE the EPL connection.
Why would they bring on EPL when they have in house tuned R8s in the past according to their blog?
What is their offering for the B8 S4 going to be? Aftermarket FI or just tune/pulley like others have had out for years? I just can’t see them doing anything amazing to even help the market. When I think of AMS it is usually balls out crazy shit that cost $30-40k, 80k plus for very expensive cars. Even their Evo shit is expensive.
Maybe they will do some cool higher model stuff, but I’d expect their B8 products to be a dud.
I think we need some clarity. The communication to Saxon just says that they are working with EPL, but from the way they wrote it, they said that EPL helps with the tune delivery to customers. Not so sure EPL is tuning the car having re-read that. EPL may just be the guys with the pre-existing tools for encryption and delivery. Since EPL clearly has no interest in the 3.0T and 4.0T (their Audi business is nearly dead to be honest) this might make business sense for both sides.
Is EPL writing the software? If so what is AMS doing, making a test pipe and a pulley? I doubt it.
Or is EPL just the delivery system for AMS?
JHM is hands down the most succesful Audi tuner in the last 5 years holding at some point every record for every platform they worked on. But they need APR to deliver their tuning via an encrypted server and built in dealer network. If someone heard that JHM was partnering with you might say ‘oh, fail…they’re partnered with APR who didn’t have any success tuning the 4.2’ but reality is it is just a business relationship that makes tune delivery easier.
Is that what this is?
Also, I think it’s interesting that they’re only working on the 3.0T and 4.0T. i.e. low hanging fruit, easy gains.
The other scenario is that AMS is being used by EPL to legitimize the shitty EPL name. EPL is doing all the work, but attaching to AMS might get something sold. AMS will invest in the cars, test them the right way and help marketing. That’s more of a longshot but who knows.
Their email to saxon is vague with respect to which entity is actually going to perform the tuning work. As noted above, I alerted them to AR and this particular thread. Hopefully they register and give us some insight.
