paper - i appreciate the transparency. i’m curious, though, as to who foots the bill for repairs with your car. does ec take care of that? i assume you don’t take your car to the dealer for warranty coverage lol
its probably the friend zone situation that i have always had with my local shops. people thought i was working with/at eurotech in nj for a while but im just in the friend zone there lol. they do a lot for me and look the other way at some things but the tradeoff is that my car is always worked on last at the end of the day after true customers have been served lol
I’ve posted this when I first joined the site. I get smoking deals on everything on my car. It is not free but I get very very good prices. My car broke down the very first day I picked it up and the dealer changed my clutch and flywheel. It has never been to the dealer since that day and it has never broken down since then unless you count my clutches going out as breaking down. So I never really had any repairs done to my car and I havnt even gone to the dealer to install my backup camera that I paid for so I won’t get a TD1, it sucks.
When I first joined this site I posted that I get parts at cost or at a discount, and I believe it was primetime that commanded me for admitting that if I’m not mistaken. You guys just have bad short term memories. Everyone smokes too much weed.
paper - honestly, you shld demand moar than just discounts or parts at cost. ec is using your car to test their products - some of which are installed w/o you even knowing :o - and they apparently have given you no assurances that they will cover repairs? too much asymmetry in that arrangement. just my .02.
Your relationship sounds nothing like this EuroCode/Paper relationship. Further, paperish goes on the forums promoting EuroCode headers etc. blindly, ignoring the rationally presented facts that show the headers aren’t working all that well relative to stock/HFC/testpipes. If you’re confused, go back to when he first arrived here and check out his posts.
If someone was getting free stuff from a tuner and going on the web and promoting them, what usually happens is:
a) that person is open UP FRONT (not months later) that he got some freebies and thus his opinions/support can then be taken with a grain of salt by the forum
b) it is an ngng or 1fastS4 type relationship of sorts where they are promoting parts in exchange for their sweetheart deal, whether the parts work or not…to the detriment of the knowledge base of the forum (who are generally unaware of any deal)
So I have to ask Richi…do you think he should be up front about this relationship with EuroCode on the forums? Perhaps put it in his signature? Post from a ppaerish@eurocode vendor account? Or should everyone just pretend that they don’t know this. I ask because all of this has come out here, a tiny site where people figure shit out real quick, but the 60,000 or whatever members of Audizine don’t know this.
I could also ask you the same question Richi. Did you get any kind of sweetheart deal for the EuroCode parts on your car? You promote them pretty regularly and call me an angry panda whenever I question the parts. Seems odd. Maybe you don’t. Maybe you just like them because the parts are fantastic (that’s how I was with JHM and my old B7 S4…never got a lick of a fucking deal and would always sing their praises. But that’s cause their shit was actually head and shoulders better than everything…the EC stuff seems kind of middle of the pack) . A few people asked me if I had a financial interest in JHM or got free parts etc. and I was always very clear that I paid in full for everything on my car. I even paid them to install stuff they didn’t even install once lol. To that end, did you ever disclose that you got sweetheart deals at EuroTech? For example yesterday you were promoting EuroTech on the forum. Did you mention that you got a sweetheart deal from them that random people reading your praise wouldn’t necessarily get?
why would I have a paper@Eurocode account if I dont work for Eurocode? I have disclosed many times on the forums here and Audizine that Im actually friends with the guys at Eurocodes. I say my friends at Eurocode all the time. Lots of people get stuff at cost or at a discounted price probably from Everyshop out there. Some people are regular customers and shops hook them up for that, some people build a strong relationship with their shop over the years and get free/discounted/cheap parts from them. My relationship with Eurocode is nothing like 1fastS4’s with GIAC, he sells GIAC I sell windows and doors.
I promote Eurocode parts because they have some of the highest quality parts for the B8 platform, very few shops have developed and pushed the B8 platform more than Eurocode(not counting the big tuners) Their sway bars and Alu Kreuz and end links are of teh highest quality, their shifter is leagues ahead of any other shifter. Their headers do give have a gain on a stock and tuned car. Of course you dont get the same bang for the buck as you do with testpipes(they cost 5 times as much and of course dont give you 500% of the gain.
But of course you guys are still comparing the track times of 1 well running car and 1 not so well running car to a pool of atleast 30-60 non header cars that have gone to the track. You do not have enough data to come to the conclusions that you come to.
It doesnt matter, Im going to take my car to the track and see what it does. Also hopefully someone else with ehaders goes to the track as well so we can put this dam annoying debate to rest. I know notarmed is going to go(which probably wont prove much since we dont really have much GIAC stage 1 B8.5 info yet)
ok you wrote way to much for me to respond to everything lol so ill answer and u tell me what i left out haha. do i get good deals at ET? yes i do but its not because i promote them or whatever i get deals because i grew up with those guys and have been friends with them long before eurotech was even a thought in there minds. and the reason i promote them so heavily is because they really do a fantastic and thorough job. they genuinely know what they’re doing and more surprisingly give more than half a shit about there customers lol, and at that there prices are some of the lowest in the area. so really ANYONE is getting a deal there vs some other shops in the area i know. ive been to the majority of the shops in the area and the work and character of those shops are more than questionable. when most need to get something fixed that another shop has fucked up they always bring it to ET and its done right. it would surprise me if you found any bad press on them, i dont make a penny on anyone i refer to them and there is no incentive for me to do what i do other than pointing people in the right direction to avoid the mistakes i have made in the past.
now on to EC. my relationship with them is no different than the one i had with JHM. its a company that i support because i believe in there products and the cross country service i get from them is top notch. i think most know that paper is EC’s poster child and i dont think that there are any conspiracies about that. i was able to figure that out off the bat because i have had similar relationships. some people(i have even said this in another thread somewhere) need to have the latest and greatest and like to be part of the process, i am one of them and so is he. if a company asks me to test a part id be happy to do(unless its like a supercharger in its alpha stages lol) so on my own dime whether is fiscally responsible or not.
By definition, a consumer basing their shopping behavior off a narrow sample base (e.g. forum comments) creates a flaw in our judgement. Trying to reduce or eliminate this type 1 error by requiring every comment or reviewer to disclose 100% of their experience – is not going to have a material affect on the prospective buyer.
Do you read the comments and ratings on Amazon before you buy? I assume you realize that the people who leave comments are either a) very satisfied or trying to reduce their buyers remorse, or b) super pissed off at how crappy the product or service is/was.
Obviously it would nice to live in a perfect world where every buyer and shopper know everything, but that is just a pipe dream. Sitting here yelling at Paper for his comments about Eurocode is analogous to you running around the internet policing peoples Ebay comments.
If you were a B6/7 guy you’d understand at the un bias opinions that came to light about many of the performance parts. It should be like that for any platform. I don’t really care about paper anymore, but at first he fought tooth and nail that there was a considerable increase in performance of the headers…that we have yet to see. I hope to see him make some dragstrip passes soon like a lot of other people.
I think your argument about “type 1 error” is off-base. I would bet that a large majority of people who mod their cars participate in these forums. So the “sample base,” as you call it, would not necessarily be all that narrow.
No one is “required” to disclose their sweetheart deals/vendor relationships when they advocate a specific product. But when they don’t (and we later find out about it), it raises red flags for those of us who would have liked to know that info up-front. Just look at the disaster that “itguy” created for jfonz by peddling his tune without disclosing that they are business partners. Again, full disclosure would have prevented that mess.
And point to me where I’ve yelled at paper. I’ve asked questions - that’s it. That’s what this forum is about: facts and objectivity. That doesn’t sit well with you?
Now, I am a loyal Amazon customer but never buy anything based on what the comments say. So I’m not sure how that’s relevant to what we’re talking about here.
