APR B8 Stage 3 S4 versus GIAC B8 Stage 2 S4

I would think it would largely run like Stage 2 (regulate boost to that requested curve) - the irony is perhaps would have run better (may not have so hastily heatsoaked and cut into major limp boost mode).

It would be interesting to see someone drop a 1720 on GIAC or Revo.

A new tune is required to even make the car driveable, as a result of the TB change…

Is this happening?

Really? Have you seen how Eric tunes? Even his own coworkers make fun of how many engines he pops…

All boost, no timing, dump fuel, EGTs what?

Yes, my experience with his tune for the B8 S4 has been very positive. The new tune performs very well based on the logs I’ve taken and the trap speeds of my car. My recent issues have all been dsg tuning issues and as I’m sure you’re aware that’s not Eric. Also, just to be clear APR is continuing to work with me on my dsg, it’s been more me slacking as I haven’t went to the strip lately.

Again, my experience and comments are in regards to the B8 S4 3.0 motor and his tune is as good as any out there. The blower makes a fixed amount of boost so he’s not doing much there just keeping the bypass closed. Timing is strong and is on par with the latest GIAC tune, but will show retard if conditions warrant. My car doesn’t tun rich either. Can’t comment on EGT’s honestly as I haven’t logged them.

I’ve talked to Eric a few times and have traded quite a few emails. He is always very informative and explained some of the new advances in the v3 tune, but again all of my experience with him is this car… My biggest concern with the stage III product is the strange relationship with APR and Magnuson. I want to make sure APR is committed to supporting the software for it and at this point Magnuson still won’t release a blower to me. Curious on who you would suggest as a valid option for this platform tune wise? I’ve seen pretty much all the tuners logs and GIAC and APR are a cut above the rest. I’m game if something better is out there… Heck if ever stage III the RS it will be with 034’s kit and tune as I like their offering better…

I do sincerely appreciate your thoughts and any input you may have on the stage III kit even if you’d like to PM me…

Also, I’m by no means an expert but I’ve owned my fair share of blower cars and tuning a car that started as a small displacement fairly high compression v8 and putting a blower on it is much much more challenging than tuning these cars.

I split the S5 1740 blown engine discussion into its own thread: http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=3670.0

Richi
I stopped in at RSW and say their red stage 3 s4.

They mounted the expansion tank too low, the top of your intercoolers is full of air. I’m sure of it. I tried to tell Pat, not sure he took me seriously. If you mount your tank higher than the intercoolers and fill it slightly higher the the highest point of the system (the bleed screw on the top crossover pipe), you will clear the air or need to refill it multiple times.

Please some one, try my idea and prove me wrong.

When I saw their car the reservoir has air 2-3 inches of air in the top of the expansion tank that sits lower than the intercooler… It’s full of air

You don’t need to re-mount the expansion kit IMO. Just use one of these or rig up something similar when you bleed the blower screws (need to rev the car for a while while running to make sure the pump is running)

If it were filled to the top, and the expansion tank was below the highest point, the coolant would be to the tippy top and pour out until it was level with the cap of the tank.

I’m very confident I’m on to something here.

Move your engine expansion tank below the highest point of the engine water and you will lose your coolant…

I gotta think of an easier way to prove it…

Well, once you remove the air, wouldn’t the lines function like a siphon? So the trick is to remove the air while bleeding. Which is what I posted. You can verify the air is gone by checking the bleeder screws.

I’m pretty sure the stock overflow tank is below the blower intercooler screws or nearly inline, so if you were right this would be an issue on the stock system, no?

If you had it filled and bled perfectly then put it back below the highest point it would have no expansion, pop the relief, and blow out the water. It needs are space on top for retain expansion properties and stay there.

I’m not 90%, but not 100%. I would like an engineer to at least review my info…
Every new car has an expansion tank that remains above the engine… Why would else would they ALL do that. it’s a simple theory if I could just explain it better…

Most cars are trying to make it “self-bleed” itself. Most cars don’t have blowers and air to water intercooling inside of said blower. The Audi service protocol is to vacuum fill the system.

I’m pretty sure every CPS has the reservoir somewhere near the front of the car for easy access. This should be lower than the blower intercooler bleed point I would guess. The AMS reservoir is way lower than any part of the system. Granted, it is undivorced, so you still fill through the factory overflow tank.

Everything here also isn’t dealing with the pressure created within the system. When I run the car with the funnel extension while bleeding, the fluid will expand and flow up into the funnel. Once the car turns off and the pump shuts down, the fluid level will drop in the funnel.

Welcome to the forum! What did you expect, it’s not like you could know more than one of these tuning shops! LOL Did you ask them how the car was running? Any logs they could share? I bet it beats stage II cars, right?

So, figured since I was replying I’d update… Still no release of a blower from Magnuson for me… I’ve talked to others with the blower and I’ll leave it at that… At this point given it’s almost Oct. I’m 99% waiting until the spring… Going to do a few small things and try to set the stage II record… Very dissappointed but not sure I want to spend the $9K given what I’m hearing from a few folks…

So are auditude and richib86 running again now that Richi fixed his cooling system?

Or are we about to wait for 6 months for this ‘production-turned-beta’ kit to get fixed?

Reality is the owners of the kit and the producers of the kit realise it wasn’t the cooling. There are far greater issues.

Maybe there are other issues but the air filled intercoolers are certainly not gonna help…

Primetime, thanks for the welcome. I know I kinda busted onto the scene with a lot of talk, but I’ve done a lot of research before I said anything…

I do this for a living on a much larger scale… I’ll post pics when I get out of work…

I believe he said it was getting fixed this Friday. We are waiting to hear back from him.

Not sure but last I emailed with Richi he hadn’t had anything done, but that could have changed?

Can’t answer the other questions factually, but given they won’t sell me a kit I can surmise there are other issues but that’s just my opinion…

Just dissppointed really!

Sure… Also, I’ve really enjoyed your posts and thoughts as that’s what this forum is about and you and Jspazz are way over my head but I get the concepts not so much all the math which is sad as I would have 15+ years ago… So my comments were more in jest towards shops who think they know everything not towards you…
