I suppose but based on their reputation I would think they could step into a crowded market and do well with minimal marketing/advertising expense… heck the forums do wonders for these company’s… They did make the LW rotors so it’s not like they totally ignored it… I guess that is them making a niche product so to say… hopefully they come up with some other niche items for us B8 folks?
Don’t forget they have a B8 clutch and LW Flywheel too and it looks like they need to pay someone to put the fucking thing on their car lol. B8 S4 market is a bit weird. It’s also a bit new when you really think about it. The smart parts like those rotors are not really taking off. Everyone is buying a tune and then an intake because that’s what they did when they owned an Acura TL. It’s still really early for the market. 91GL hit the nail on the head on what the B8 could really benefit from…but I think that, just like they did with the B6/7, the S5 and the Rs4, JHM willl wait for everyone to knock themselves out for a few years.
I don’t hear from JHM that you guys are burning up their phone lines asking them to make a proper catback or tune or cat mod or anything. However I do hear you guys saying JHM is missing out here on the forums. Reach out to them and let them know what you want.
If you were a cookie maker and only made (the best) chocolate chip cookies, and one day a whole bunch of people knocked on your door requesting oatmeal raisin cookies, guess what…you will think about it. If those people were standing around down the street grumbling amongst themselves that you don’t make oatmeal raisin , you don’t hear them. You’re too busy making (the best) chocolate chip cookies.
LOL! love the cookie analogy… I guess another good point is that most of the B8’s are still under warranty and at a price point that many won’t mod until years down the road… We aren’t the norm here on AR… B6/B7’s are much more affordable for younger folks and most won’t have a warranty… The RS4 is a niche car with a performance minded owner for the most part so it’s a little different…
for the record, JHM was killing it in the B5 section years ago and everyone in the B6/7 section, like richib, had APR or REVO or GIAC and were hating life. The shit just didn’t work. A few years later, when the B6 was $20,000 and the B7 was $30,000, suddenly JHM stepped in and took those cars to a new level.
Now, the problem with the B8 is that you can get a huge chunk of gains by being a shitty tuner and altering boost bleedoff and throwing a little timing at it (not saying anyone is a shitty tuner…but any monkey with the security and tuning tools can do this and get a big gain). The barrier to entry to the market is just about zero now. The NA cars with the 4.2 , 4.2 FSI and 4.2 FSI high revving are a nightmare for most of these tuners because they try to apply the formula from their small displacement FI program and it doesn’t work. That’s a huge reason JHM enjoys the 4.2 world…everyone else has just about abandoned it.
im looking at it like if they want to finally step up to the big leagues and go toe to toe with the awe’s and apr’s, then they need to get into the 3.0t game. im sure with a similar gameplan to the 4.2, could really knock it out of the park. eurocode walked right into it, made some whatever products and took every b8 owner by the balls. i think JHM can do a lot more than eurocode could ever do because they can actually tune and make proven gains from their products.
JHM can easily shit on AWE, REVO Stasis and push APR without offering a stage 3 like they are. some competition would only benefit us. if i was JHM, im done relying on others and trying to hurt some feelings instead.
so $12,500 is winning the poll so far, but it’s really kind of leaning towards the lower end of that price with 9 votes below $12,500 and only 3 above it.
I am not sure on the ip address thing on this site. God was explaining to me that it’s a right pain in the ass to see anyone’s IP info. Oh and there are no moderators lol.
Let’s assume that APR is having someone else manufacture the blower (like they do with their RSC exhausts - Corsa and their intakes - Carbonio), then what’s to say its price won’t be in line with $6-$8k SCs that are sold by the same manufacturers for American muscle cars? My question is what will be APR’s markup? Also consider that they’ll have required and recommended peripherals to go with the SC that they’ll sell at full price (tune, CPS, clutch, etc.). I think they can easily sell it for less than $10k and be profitable.
I don’t think they price it based on what will be profitable… I think they decide to do it based on that… And once they’re into it, they price it based on whatever the market will bear. That’s why I voted $15,000. I don’t think someone with cps and tune and pulley and intake will have to pay that, but for a new customer, why not charge that?
Let’s look at an APR devotee… They have a $1500 tune, a $1000 intake, a $500 pulley and a $2000 cps. And that’s just under the hood. That’s $5,000.
You’re kind of saying the supercharger is only $5,000 on top of that (for 10,000 to be true)
That’s why I say no way. They already know b8 people don’t mind paying crazy prices… And will price it accordingly I think.
Look at your $1,500 tune… It is still two to three times more than most apr tunes. And people keep paying it. That’s a jhm tune milltek catless downpipes plus magnaflow catback on a b6/7 s4.
