APR Stage 3 - Place your bets!

I actually would be a little surprised if it was more than 8 grand. Although I think the absolute max would be 9. Also with the amount of models this kit will cover the R&D cost recuperation will be spread across a much broader spectrum.

Just by looking at the V8 kit and all of the extra parts it needs (primarily the coolant system upgrade) as well as a bunch of other parts that will not be necessary on the supercharged V6. Now whether the CPS upgrade will be necessary/mandatory is another question and they will probably do it like they have done other kits where the intercooler and fuel pump have to be purchased separately.

I feel like you could be out the door installed with corresponding mods (cps and MAYBE exhaust) for less than the V8 kit.

There should be three parts to this thread:

1.) Price
2.) Blower size
3.) ET/Trap

My estimates:
1.) $12,500+
2.) TVS1900
3.) Low to mid 11’s at around 122-126mph on pump

That time is pretty optimistic…would be impressive if it gets to the 11s on pump at all. ‘Pump’ ignition timing will be pretty retarded (literally) and likely boost will be limited. I’d say something like 11.7@118 or similar to Prime or Bear’s current times on race gas, and even that will be a stretch, probably more like 12.0@116.

As far as race gas goes, what you guessed sounds about right, if all is good with the car and driver.

We’ll definitely have a 3) thread when we know the blower.

I believe I did one on their old kit when it was announced. For trap/ET

I am really confused about what blower they’re using though, if you want to have a chat about 2).

I think there’s a chance it’s going to be a TVSr1650. Or a TVSr2300

How crazy is that?

Here’s why I think that

  1. Arin said ‘you will be surprised’ at what they’re using
Everyone thinks 1900. That wouldn’t be a surprise. 2300 would be a surprise. Or a 1650. But the 2300 has monstrous upside that is likely too big for the forged internals RS4 without a motor build…not sure it’s a very good choice for a B8 S4 without one either to take advantage. And until you go built motor you’re using so little of the blowers upside…factoring in parasitic draw it may not be a great choice. Maybe they’re using it for future motor build programsn though?.

  2. Arin started that thread here about PES and their new Whipple blower (which is a pretty interesting scenario)…basically saying going bigger isn’t always better. He seems to be prepping everyone for a not very big blower.

  3. Arin also said, in that thread, that it’s absurd for Spinner to assume the APR kit is using the TVS1900 and to say that the Whipple is better.

So…there you have my reasons.

Well it would be nice to have a 2300 but I dont think anyone is going to release forged pistons, for these cars. It is way too much work and I doubt its something that JE or other manufactures are willing to undertake. It would be literally 6 times the work as any other engine.

Is there even a 1650 in production? I haven’t been able to find one.

I figured the 1650 would be too costly due to the low volume of units (that I know of).

I figured the 1900 would be a realistic size for the 3.0 and is readily available.

The 2300 is probably way too much for the 3.0 and I did at one point hope for the 2300 for the 4.2FSI but you raised some very valid points.

I also forgot about Arin’s comments to Spinner regarding the 1900.

This info almost makes me want to increase my “guestimate” $ amount for the stage III blower.

coming to the $15,000 dark side?

Is the stage 3 even functional before a viable clutch solution is available for the 6mt guys?

Seems apr has hitched their cart to the south bend horse and are endorsing it.

Where did they endorse that one?

I know it’s all speculation at this point, but it doesn’t seem to be a worthwhile upgrade for run 93 if some of pump gas assumptions prove to be correct. I hope the actual release proves this to be wrong.

I thought they were? Someone said apr told them a new clutch was coming out and then that one showed up. I maybe hastily assumed that’s what they were talking about.

What do they run on their race car… Or is it dsg

I can comfortably speculate that if your car has a 1900 on it and a good tune, and good supporting mods, that theory you’re referring to will be proven quite wrong.

I sure hope so. I’m definitely getting one if the numbers it puts down are solid.

Their race car is a 6mt, but I don’t know what they run on it. APR is coming out with their own clutch solution as far as I know. It was just coincidental timing I believe between the two. When KMD Tuning announced their pricing, I PMed Arin to ask if he could provide me any reason to hold out for the APR solution. He told me that he couldn’t disclose any information at that time. If he had endorsed the South Bend clutch elsewhere, I would have expected him to echo the same sentiment in his response to me.

Spy shot.

Per Eurocode, referencing stage 3 power levels:

That is massive lol.
