APR Stage 3 - Place your bets!

…looks like maybe you should have taken that beast to a dragstrip. Even if your car did better and equaled the RS4s 12.29 all it would show is that they are equally responsive to modification. This will also throw the 3.0T mentality that the 4.2FSI is a “shit motor” out the door. It will be in black and white that the NA motor responds just as well if not better when comparing pump gas times.

This also means the race gas loving modified B8 guys better run around with a full tank of race gas all of the time in case they run into a JHM tuned, full exhaust B7 RS4

81bear 12.05

Nevermind. I found it. 81Bear ran a 12.059. Anyway, the difference between the fastest DSG and 6-manual is pretty shocking to me. Especially considering that Stage II from APR basically ruined the launch control, and 6 speed cars with Stage II can still launch at significantly higher RPMs.

No search… Just go here

www.Audirevolution.net/quartermile

Type b8 s4 in the vehicle column, dsg in the transmission column and <95 in the octane column.

81bear had a really quick run with the heavy wind that one day and then a 12.1 another day.

I’m not sure what your reaching for here, but the DSG guys have consistent 1.7X 60’ or better, while the manual have a best of 1.83

I dont think my justifications were wrong. You are using quarter mile times from manual S4’s that are available to you to argue that the RS4 responds to mods better than an S4. Im saying that the S4 responds to mods better than an RS4 because there is a very large delta between a stock DSG S4 and a tuned DSG S4. That is a true test of how well a car responds to mods. As for a manual S4, our stock clutches suck dick mine went at 9xxx miles, and I had only launched it 1 time racing my friend in his DSG S4 with the same exact mods I had at the time.

^^ it’s just an observation. Pretty surprising to me. I understand that the manual guys may have clutch issues, but, on average, I would generally expect them to have the upper-hand in nailing the optimal launch.

Edit: this was in response to Euro, not papery

Yeah it’s nuts. Here’s the list. Dsg is a helluva drug. Launches better, shifts quicker, more gears means it’s always in the power band, and maybe most important… It’s overall idiot proof so people always get everything they can out of the car while the manual cars often leave a little on the table.

To perfect a manual run you have to:

  1. Perfect the launch
  2. Shift at the perfect rpm
  3. Perfect 3 gear changes

I’d submit that’s never ever done. You always leave a little on the table with a manual no matter how good you are. Anyone of these can throw you off badly. The dsg has none of these problems…unless its acting up. But it’s not that common.

hes right that was the case at one point but APR has fixed the problem. stock the S4 launches hard at 3000 RPM. When APR’s stage 2 was first released, launch control would launch at 4000RPM and it was very tame. They now lowered it back down to 3000RPM and it works great again.

Damnit, I need to get the updated Stage II! I’d love to go back to the dragstrip next month with LC working properly again.

You’re proving my point again. I said ‘apples to apples’. Manual vs manual. Please read my post and stop throwing opinions around as fact.

You said ‘there’s more rs4s’ but there are in fact way less

You said ‘you’re comparing a few s4 times to all the rs4 times ever’ but there are actually more b8 s4 times.

Focys

I have your stockish 13.00 @ 106 you had a catback but not tuned yet.

What’s the other time? Thread link? I will add it right away.

Saki, can you add my 12.4 time? I tired PMing you but got an error message.

It’s ironic that one of the most vocal B8 guys arguing justification right now doesn’t care about the drag strip. Paper you also mention that your car hasn’t been to the strip, maybe you could be the equalizer…or maybe you would show the comparison is ever more true…guess we will never know.

Like I said before, it is assumed by most platforms that if your engine is NA, performance will be harder to find compared to other platforms that are FI from the manufacturer, but looking at the numbers shows they are nearly equal.

is it on arins list? I will ‘steal’ it from there.

I didnt say there were more RS4’s, I said you are comparing Every RS4 out there to a small percentage of B8 S4’s. I know you posted that 46% of 221 cars were manuals, thats great. But when you look at it in a larger scope, 1 out of 7 or 8 Audi dealers might have 1 manual S4 on the lot from the 50 or 60 S4’s that you will find in 7 or 8 dealers. Again im not really trying to argue your point. But your wording should have been modifications help the RS4 more than a B8 S4 on the quarter mile, not RS4’s respond better to mods. Because in any race that doesnt include launching the shit out your car, a tuned B8 S4 will be faster than a Tuned B7 RS4.

More made up stats and opinions passed on as facts lol.

out of all the drag strip arguments we have had in the past, I never once said I don’t care about the drag strip. I always said if there was one nearby I would be there every weekend. I race multiple cars every week. But I don’t have to go out of my way to do it, I drive home late at night, run into a quick car and we race. I don’t have to go out of my way to do it, the opportunity presents itself and I take it. If the opportunity to go to a drag strip presents itself, I’m going to take it.

I wouldn’t be so sure of this…a pump gas and modified B8 S4 is not going to walk away from a tuned RS4 with a JHM package like your trying to say.

Hey sometimes made up stats are the best ones. Either way the main point im making is if you want to compare a delta between a stock and tuned car to the same delta in another car. Compare the fastest stock time to the fastest tuned time of that car. Why would you take transmission into account? A cars ability to respond to mods is based on how much power the cars engine makes and how much faster that car is everytime you get on it, not which car can launch the best.
