I think you are right. Looks too smooth for a run on the road.
Still looking for one that shows the top speed on the road. This one says 'on German highway" and definitely looks like it is on the road, but the camera also only shows the dash. Top Speed is 275kmh
Me too. You’d have to wonder how that would be less scary going that fast on a dyno. Sure the car is strapped down but I doubt the rollers are able to spin that fast without it being kinda scary.
The freak out is the transmission limp mode. That would be very unsafe at those speeds. The transmission has a max internal spin rate. You need to tune the TCU if you want to go that fast or it goes into limp mode and slams itself into 3rd gear.
The transmission is not that bad. The ability to adjust several shift and transmission functions are there, they just take a long time to sort out. You can turn on the function to blip the throttle on downshifts, I did it on my A4. It’s way too ricer on the A4. Might be better on this, the question is, how needed is it.
The usual issues with the automatics, is on the launch. A manual car you can rev and release the clutch at the RPM of your choosing. The challenge with the automatics is getting them to cooperate on the launch. When you tap into the ECU and know how to manipulate the transmission functions you can do this. Please keep in mind this is on the S4
Here is more testing with the JHM supercharger installed. You can lock up the converter at 2600 here and then have it flash to 2800rpm. You can’t really do this on lower hp cars, the higher stall speeds on lower hp cars can make for a less fun car to drive. On higher hp cars you can see how it really helps make for a much stronger acceleration http://audirevolution.net/videos/70/supercharged-automatic-s4
This helped get this car into solid 1.7 and 1.8 60’ launches at the track.
Always nice to have more S6 guys. I would suggest starting a introduction thread. Post up some pictures of the car and any of the information on the car. From there you can outline what you need or what you want. Not only me, but other members of the community can make sure you get the car to the right people for what you need
Thanks! Will do. The short story is I’ve had it since November of 2013 and it has been good to me, but running into a few issues at the end of mfr warranty and I want to determine how best to get it sorted and decide what mods to do, if any. I’ll start an into thread and take it from there.
Storm33, great to have another S6 owner on the board. As others have stated, CV is the MAN around here. Since you own a S6, you are probably going to want to follow all of his posts on the subject pretty closely.
You have definitely come to the right place. For some reason, there is a lot of negativity towards the C6 S6 on other North American Audi forums. Around here, and on the European/UK forums, you will find a lot different attitude. On AR, we try to stick to the facts, and explore the aftermarket improvements that can be made to the car, instead of just focusing on the unimpressive stock 1/4 mile time. Within a couple months I should have my C6 S6 project thread started, which will focus more on the aftermarket potential for the car.
Since you are getting to the end of the MFG warranty, you definitely want to do a thorough check of the car and get anything fixed now, that is not functioning properly. There are a lot of items to check on the first page of this thread that are v10 specific, that you can use as a guide. However, if you arent getting a Check Engine light, I doubt the dealership is going to check or replace any of them under warranty. When you post your Introduction thread, ask if there is a local Audi dealership that has a good service department that can look over the car for you. I rarely step foot in an Audi dealership, so Im not the best to give advice in that area.
From my research, it seems that the single most important maintenance job to keep up with on these cars is the carbon cleaning. If the carbon gets really bad, it can lead to a bunch of other issues. Carbon buildup will not trigger a check engine light until it gets really bad and starts causing misfires. You don’t want to let it get to that point. If your 2010 has never had one, I suggest you look into it right away. When the guys pull things apart, it might be a good time to check for collateral damage, and get that fixed under warranty. If the carbon is really bad, and you have a good relationship with the dealer, then you MIGHT be able to get them to cover some of the costs. From what I have read, you really have to push them, and most dealers are not willing to help.
CountVohn, as always, a lot of great info. I have never driven a car with a high stall converter. I see it gave you guys excellent 60’ times at the track, that I am assuming are pretty easy to replicate time and time again.
How is it to drive a car like that on the street? Does it turn every red light into a tire-blazin launch? If the stall speed adjustable in the ECU, is it possible to have a easy way to flash between a ‘street’ and ‘track’ tune on these cars?
One more thing Storm, a lot of the S6 guys on other forums have reportedly made very good use of their MFG, and especially, third-party warranty. See some of the links in Page 1 for more details. Some of the prices they are getting are probably grossly inflated (because warranty), but still, the warranty seems to more than pay itself off in most cases.
Apparently, a third party warranty for an Audi v10 is not offered by many companies. It looks like Fidelity is your best best if you want and try and extend your warranty with a third-party. Talk to your dealer for more info.
If you plan to modify the car an any way, then an extension of your warranty is probably useless. I have read that the third-party warranty companies will immediately cancel, and partially refund, your warranty coverage if they hear about ANY modifications. I am sure there are some guys that have hidden their mods to the warranty companies, but just be aware that that can happen.
When I took my car to the dyno and they ran it up to the top of 3rd gear on the old A6, I stood WAY back from machine, just to be safe. A chunk of one of my tires actually flew off at some point, and ended the session early, but that is my own stupid fault for using old tires that were included free with a set of wheels I purchased.
Thanks, CV! Intro thread is done. Where are you located? If you’re in the Detroit area it would be great to meet IRL sometime for a cruise and get your suggestions for mods.
