The changes to the exhaust effect both audible and physical feelings. It’s easy to translate smoother acceleration with loss of power. Welcome maybe consider making your own thread and show off your car.
I’m late to the party, sorry. Just picked up an '08 S6 and it went a full thousand miles before the water pump or thermostat or something took a dump. So …that’s fun.
I live about 10 miles away from Quonset Pizza, just for reference.
And that’s all I’ve got re: contributions for right now. Hoping to get my car back on the road in a day or so. Waiting for warranty company to decide what they will cover.
Welcome to AR. Sucks the pump went bad. Let us know more when you get the car back. I don’t know if I’ve heard too many failures pertaining to the coolant system. It’d be interesting to hear more.
Yep, I know Bill’s. The bar I spent the most time at was Flatlanders (late '90’s, early '00’s) in Lincolnshire. They had a mug on the wall with my name on it. Also Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville. Used to do all my company sponsored functions at one of those two bars.
Pretty sure Flatlanders closed a little while ago.
Mickey Finns relocated to a larger facility. (Across the street and a block south.)
Water pump and t-stat are being replaced today. Got the call at like 7:30am, warranty company is picking up everything other than my $100 ded. Probably saved me $2,000-2,500.
talked with a friend recently who had a CPO C6 S6. shortly after getting out of warranty he was having issues with loosing coolant. not sure exactly what happened. but coolant was getting into the cylinders. Audi wouldn’t do anything for him so he dumped it and got a new 550xi
A cracked head or bad head gasket would only make sense if the guy overheated the engine. Which would have been pretty obvious.
The RS4s have two seals on the rear coolant pipe that cause issues with coolant and oil mixing if I remember right. I am tired so I don’t remember more but NY07RS4 is the man to talk about this in more detail.
Aside from carbon buildup issues, I haven’t been able to track a single major problem that effects a substantial percentage of the v10s. Even the chain guide issues that seem to effect some of the other engines, have not been reported form a single v10 that I have found. From all accounts, they seem to be pretty solid.
T-stat seized open. T-stat and water pump were replaced under the extended warranty. Total was just shy of $2k, but I only had to pay a $100 ded. Extended warranty gamble has paid off!
Rock Auto has an AC Delco unit for $56, or a rebuild service of the OEM piece for $106.
How is it possible the OEM piece is almost 10x the price of the ACDelco unit? I am think to have the OEM piece rebuilt. Does that make sense with 210k km on the car (about 130k miles), or do the water pumps run forever?
Does anyone think the AC Delco unit would be fine? It is just the cheap price that scares me.
