Audi C6 S6 v10 Info Dump

Power los has to be in & between my ears… i recorded 80-120km/h around 3.5s at 3 gear, and 4.5s 4:th gear…

Welcome to AR !!!

The changes to the exhaust effect both audible and physical feelings. It’s easy to translate smoother acceleration with loss of power. Welcome maybe consider making your own thread and show off your car.

I’m late to the party, sorry. Just picked up an '08 S6 and it went a full thousand miles before the water pump or thermostat or something took a dump. So …that’s fun.

I live about 10 miles away from Quonset Pizza, just for reference.

And that’s all I’ve got re: contributions for right now. Hoping to get my car back on the road in a day or so. Waiting for warranty company to decide what they will cover.

Welcome to AR. Sucks the pump went bad. Let us know more when you get the car back. I don’t know if I’ve heard too many failures pertaining to the coolant system. It’d be interesting to hear more.

Woohoo! Quonset Pizza!

Spent ten years down the road at Abbott Laboratories. Many lunches and late night dinners at Quonset. What a dump, but great pizza. LOL

I’m actually a lot closer to Bill’s Pub in Mundelein. It’s like Quonset - a dumpy hole in the wall!

Not 100% it’s the pump. Will certainly follow up when I know for sure. Photo from before I got towed …

(Photo shows up in preview. Lemme know if it’s DOA when I actually post.)

Yep, I know Bill’s. The bar I spent the most time at was Flatlanders (late '90’s, early '00’s) in Lincolnshire. They had a mug on the wall with my name on it. Also Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville. Used to do all my company sponsored functions at one of those two bars.

Hope the S6 is ok. Post up some more pictures.

Pretty sure Flatlanders closed a little while ago.
Mickey Finns relocated to a larger facility. (Across the street and a block south.)

Water pump and t-stat are being replaced today. Got the call at like 7:30am, warranty company is picking up everything other than my $100 ded. Probably saved me $2,000-2,500.

talked with a friend recently who had a CPO C6 S6. shortly after getting out of warranty he was having issues with loosing coolant. not sure exactly what happened. but coolant was getting into the cylinders. Audi wouldn’t do anything for him so he dumped it and got a new 550xi

Weird. I havent heard that one before. Was he getting it in all of them, or only certain ones?

Could a cracked block or head have caused this? Or a bad head gasket?

Any one ever hear of this problem with any of the FSI v8 engines?

yeah unfortunately he had very little detail, after audi told him to go screw he walked away from the car

That’s too bad

A cracked head or bad head gasket would only make sense if the guy overheated the engine. Which would have been pretty obvious.

The RS4s have two seals on the rear coolant pipe that cause issues with coolant and oil mixing if I remember right. I am tired so I don’t remember more but NY07RS4 is the man to talk about this in more detail.

Good info.

Aside from carbon buildup issues, I haven’t been able to track a single major problem that effects a substantial percentage of the v10s. Even the chain guide issues that seem to effect some of the other engines, have not been reported form a single v10 that I have found. From all accounts, they seem to be pretty solid.

T-stat seized open. T-stat and water pump were replaced under the extended warranty. Total was just shy of $2k, but I only had to pay a $100 ded. Extended warranty gamble has paid off!

Holy crap.

So, the thermostat required an engine drop/pull? And I guess they do the water pump as preventative maintenance while it is out?

I am happy that I saw this, as I think I will have those two pieces replaced while the engine is out of the car.

And I should probably get those rear coolant pipe seals checked too, if it is easy to do.

Just checked ECS Tuning, and an OEM water pump is $459!

Rock Auto has an AC Delco unit for $56, or a rebuild service of the OEM piece for $106.

How is it possible the OEM piece is almost 10x the price of the ACDelco unit? I am think to have the OEM piece rebuilt. Does that make sense with 210k km on the car (about 130k miles), or do the water pumps run forever?

Does anyone think the AC Delco unit would be fine? It is just the cheap price that scares me.

OK, I found the S6 water pump assembly, and it will often come with the thermostat. I guess that is why they replaced your entire assembly.
