C5 allroad

Car is definitely driving better and smoother.

I was pretty sure of the reason for using a trickle charge when loading the file but wanted to be sure. Almost hesitant to even dink with it now since it is running good, but CV and JHM have assured me its a good thing to go ahead with.

The boot/hose is fastened as good as it can be with a proper clamp. I doubt zip ties will offer any better clamping force than current setup. Just need to periodically make sure it is secure. Easy enough.

It makes perfict sense that it would work better so that explains a lot and its got to make you feel better. If JHM and CV say go with the update then its probably best to go with the update.

Its also good to see your getting more formilure with the car.

Agree Justin. Thanks

How hard would it be to retro/repurpose an avant into a camping trailer? Been looking at teardrop trailers and for the price it seems converting an avant into one would be cheaper and way cooler. Thoughts? Doable with enough effort?

Figure sell the 2.7 engine, sport interior, all front end suspension/brake bits, front bumper, fenders, hood, etc and it pretty much could pay for itself. Hack it right in front of b-pillar and gut the shell. Would this be legal and registerable?

Something like this. He cut it further up. Good idea for more room and galley area. I really want to do something like this.

This still allows use of firewall for structure. Even more space

But I like idea of less is more and just leaving the rear doors and cutting at b-pillar like this c4

Wow I saw that once before but thought it was photoshopped. I never looked much into it. but when you look at the frame rail and how the body is it would be much less then a camper and I think it would be really something special to go with your supercharged allroad.

The suggestion I would have depends on if your just using it for a trailer or if you want to have it used as a trailer alone or a trailer sleeper. Either way it probably makes sense to keep the length with the 4 doors. But weld one of the doors shut and close the door in so you cant see there was ever a door there. You can leave in the electronics but remount things like the raido and heater controls. you might not be able to get heat and cold air but you can use the system to circulate the air and if your sleeping in there thats a big plus

Camping trailer/sleeper

Be even better if I just source a c5 allroad shell.

I think it might be eaiser to find stuff like C5 skirts and bumper to put in the B5.

If your doing the sleeper I would deffinitly spend the time to get the electronics intigrated back into the front part of the car. Having a still working blower motor will really add to the package. From there you still have speakers where you can also tap into an RNS E unit or head unit to place at the front of the trailer.

Over alll I think its a special idea that will be interesting to see you do if you decide to take it on. Money wise I think you can save a ton by doing the conversion your talking about and the best part is that you can crazy customize it to be better then anything you would end up buying.

Lol! I have a file update awaiting to be flashed and the links to setup my vpn won’t install properly. It never ends.

Well the up side here is that the actual car didnt have any issues. LOL

Except maf codes
And my damn rnse screen decided to go blank. Like I said, it never ends

A little reseaarch suggests taking a look at the ribbon from the screen to the head unit. Apparently not all that uncommon for this to be a failure point?

So I got an older windows7 laptop to try to load vpn and jhm browser in order to load my flash update. Now I can setup my vpn connection but run into errors loading the jhm browser. Can’t catch a breake. Wish I was more tech savy :’(

Seems to be hanging up on the dp (direct port) portion based on error message and screen shot. Check that, driver package.

When the VPN screen pops up that says confirm. You need to confirm and close the screen or you will have issues. Also you might need to launch the browser once or twice after you confirm and close the VPN screen

The browser will not complete installation. It gets hung up in error. Vpn is working fine.

The browser fully installed on my windows 10 laptop but the vpn would not.

Can’t catch a break

Just read your entire build thread and WOW just WOW… Man this is pure baddassery and exactly how I’d want my C5 Allroad(manual charged V8) I’m über jelly! This thing must be so much fun, especially during winter.

Thanks man. It sure has been quite the transformation and journey. Honestly still working out nagging unexpected issues but I guess its to be expected after such extensive work. Love/hate at times.

Certainly puts a smile on my face more often than not and turns some heads. Get the thumbs up or peace sign from all sorts; vag cars, ctsv wagons, subis, harleys, lol! Its a unique one of a kind vehicle for sure.

Much thanks and credit goes to JHM for taking on and executing the project and their continued support in fine tuning and squeezing all the power out we possibly can. I want it to be over the top. We only own and drive these cars for so long and I want it to be the best experience possible from this car

I know I might have already said this but I want to again back up and say I feel the same way. I think what you did just made the entire allroad world change. The stuff you did to your car will change the landscape and I would think there are going to be a lot of allroad guys now that will do the 6 speed conversion let alone know there is now a real power upgrade.

The cool thing is it looks like JHM is going to start getting 1.5 kits out for the RS4 and S4 soon. When that happens that is a nice bump again in HP.

Props for a cool car and even more for posting your experences here. So fun to watch and sorry about the computer stuff that sucks.

Definitely up for intercooled 1+ setup. Would have left the car with them for development and testing of for the allroad application.

Not sure what the heck is going on with my inability to load the needed software. My windows7 is a “starter edition”. Wonder if that has something to do with it. I’d prefer to flash the tune from home rather than have to drive to a shop 2-hrs away but with the little success in getting it done, might have to this time and then get to bottom of why I can’t get my laptops to cooperate.

Going to attempt installing 034 front sway end links and my freshly painted hatch wing today.

I sure hope I can remove and replace 4 bolts, lol! Like most diy jobs for me, a 45 minute job will take no less than 2 hours I bet, >:(

Enjoyed using the car a couple weekends ago for a remote hiking spot

That hach wing didnt look too bad. Where did you get that from. I think those look neat and really help the wagon look more sporty

Also you have some wonderful pictures of places you go. Did you hike up those mountains in the one back ground.

Thanks, Justin. Got off ebay. Its good not great fit and finish but I can live with it.

We did not hike to the peak. Have in the past. Its an all day thing and we just wanted to get the dog out for a quick walk in the woods.

What I cant live with is yet another very troublesome drivability issue is rearing its ugly head. Runs like utter crap with the ac on. Rpms surge and dip and it stalls. Ridiculous really. I challenge anyone to drive it without killing it at stops in and around town. My imola B5 did this too.

Here’s a vid of that B5 RS4 with B5 RS4 trailer in action:

Quite awesome, I say go for it and as you mentioned above, you could probably recoup most of it(if not all) through a part out.

Exactly. Thanks for the encouragement!
