C5 allroad

If iit’s S you have a 6 speed. Shift it over to the tip option and it should say 123456 on the heads up area on the dash

I dont think the allroad got a 6spd. Ill look now. Thought the S was just sport mode? It keeps the revs up noticeably higher before shifting when selected. I actually use it more often than D and i use tip mode more than D frankly. Cant stand how the trans feels in D

Ya, 5 spd only. Woulda been nice but nope…54321 only in tip mode

Other kind of bummer thing is the 2005 4.2 ar didnt come with steering wheel controls for tip shifting. Lame. Might try and source another older model wheel because i do use the controls on our B5. More so than any of the multifunction buttons on ar steering wheel. If i knew the controls would work i would just get a 3 spoke from s6 and forgo the other controls to have the tip controls and ditch the 4 spoke

Lets talk trans service. Prolly a good idea to drop pan and change the trans filter and refill. Yes? Doubt this has ever been done on this car yet. I know my buddy didnt have this service performed. Asked him already.

This is a pretty nifty breakdown of MY differences. http://allroadfaq.com/content/changes.shtml

So i peeled back the passenger carpet. Interesting enough seems audi sort of planned for water intrusion. The comfort control module is already covered in plastic?

Not a lot of evidence that water has been too much an issue really. Did clean out a bit of sunflower seeds though. Critters.

Heres a pic of my tcu and necessary part/serial #'s. Hoping CV can work some magic

Lol, rather than fix the root cause, lets put a band aid on.

The good side of this is the S mode in the transmission indicates the newer updates to the transmission. If your close to jhm see about stopping by CV is out there today.

No longer close. He mentioned he would be out there.

Took car thru auto wash again. Its def leaking from the primary wiper screen cowl. It just ever so slightly doesnt seal/snap into place perfect. Not sure what the fix is though. Seems like if i get a new one it could just as easily not fit perfect and still leak. Its a small trickle dripping down from pollen filter area. Filter is damp.

Im taking that whole bitch apart tomorrow morning and cleaning, checking seal, making sure all drains are evacuating proper, etc…i dont see standing water so i believe the drains are working proper but im gonna make certain. After that maybe buy a new wiper cowl.

Cleaned evetything up. Its def leaking in from the main wiper cowl on passenger side then into the pollen filter. What a chicken shit design. It noticably snaps into place 2/3 of the run but that passenger third doesnt. Guess next step is to buy new piece. Frankly dont hold out much hope that will resolve but guess we’ll see.

All my firewall drains are free n clear. Water evacuates as fast as it enters.

Here is what I do. Pull off all the trim on the outside then pull back all the carpet on the inside on that side. At night put a big spot light in the intermittent firewall space where the water runs. The light should shine in the car showing the leak points. Use flex seal and permitex they work great.

Can you make a body drain FAQ for that car. That will help others in the future that are going to have these same issues.

Just want to check that you did do what the youtube guy recommended, because it sounds like exactly what he described.

The FIX is not completed by clearing the drains, water is still draining into the inside air duct. You have to remove the rain deflector that runs just under the windshield. Apply PB Blaster etc. to the upper edge, remove clips and move the deflector down and swing upwards to unlock deflector. Then you can get to the hidden back nut holding the pollen filter box. Remove all three bolts on the filter box and remove it. The rubber gasket that sealed the air duct has disintegrated. I cleaned up the area and used black silicon caulk to seal the box to the car. I did not use caulk around the duct opening.
Earlier Audi routed the runoff water toward the fenders. The A6 has a SUPER design flaw running the water to the center over the interior air duct work where gravity takes it into the foot wells.

Yes. It is similar intrusion area, but for the fact mine is in good shape. water was getting in from under the main cowl not being fully sealed. My pollen filter is/was wet because of it and would then just drip on into the cabin through the actual fan area.

My filter housing and seals are not in poor shape or disintegrated in any way

I did use some silicone very sparingly along the edge lip of the wiper cowl that actually is supposed to snap into place in the u groove under the windshield. Went through a power wash and it didnt leak this time. Pulled the secondary cover to get to the pollen filter, battery area and i didnt notice the pollen filter being wet. So maybe cleaning everything up good and refastening helped. We’ll see. I’ll be keeping an eye on it to say least

I can. That said very much of this is old news for these cars from what i have researched. I’ll put together all my issues, diagnose, steps taken to resolve, etc…

Pretty sure ive decided on getting these for the rack system. Clean!

Audi uses p/n s45 though. Pic just for reference

Looks exactly like the rack on my wife’s Subaru Outback. I took it off to reduce air resistance, but it sure looked good on the car.

its the most aero set up if going to be using regularly.

That rack looks amazing.

I went with the universal Thule rack due to price, and also I needed the longer bars for the loads that I carry on windsurfing trips.

I use longer bars than recommended by Thule so that I can position the boards side by side. On a few occasions, I have belted myself square in the forehead with the extended bar getting in or out of the car. That’ll wake you up for sure. I felt bad when it happened to my wife. She doesnt like me too much anymore.

Ha! Ya that is a drawback of those bars (both). Ive cracked my forehead before. Tennis balls on the ends helps. Not very aerodynamic though. Lol

I dont usually need wider bars. Either 2 bikes, skis, or a roof top box. But they would come in handy at times im sure.

Second guessing not getting 19" wheels for the ar. We’ll see i guess. Maybe the spoke extending all the way to lip will “extend” the look, hopefully.

I am sure the wheels you got are going to look amazing on the car.

While I like the look of the bigger wheels, the 18s felt best on my C5 S6.

Ya, i do want a decent uncompromised ride thats why i went 18. May still end up with a set of cheap 19 or rebuild a set i already have in 19. Just need a barrel fixed and/or replaced. Very hard time sourcing a 19" 40-hole OZ barrel though.
