C5 allroad

And yes, it snows in Arizona

Nice pic.

If your high enough in the mountains, yeah it snows.

Ok so my transmission is scaring the shit out of me. Sitting at stop sign in D braking, its slipping and engine decides to cut out. Not good!

Trans service tomorrow. If that doesnt resolve or god forbid make it worse (have read of this happening) i will most likely opt for a 6 mt swap over another or rebuilt at. However, it seems a bit more involved and tricky for an v8 allroad vs a6. Too many ar specific parts.

Any codes. I know this might not be super popular but the allroad automatic has great gear ratio and you might be better off just doing a rebuilt transmission.

Edit: 2x

Waiting on receipt of vagcom. No cel illuminated anyway. I will scan asap.

Ya, I think I would still opt for a 6 mt swap.

Please explain more of what is so favorable about the ar auto gear ratios. Just trying to learn/understand all I can.

Also going to recode the trans to deactivate dsp and switch to old tip code. 0002 I believe it is

Hotchkis sways installed. Yeah! So much crisper and flatter in the turns. Love it.

On test drive my local independent rode along. He seems to think my “transmission” woes may likely be mounts and not actual trans. Will know more tomorrow, got too late to dig into it more to confirm. Trans service tomorrow and look into it more.

So, is 85k miles a reasonable time to need replacing mounts? Have zero issue doing so. Just would like to hear others experiences. Thanks.

Some good news. Shop said the fluid while “thinned out” was not alarming and no metal in pan or magnet pick up. Said valve body looked clean. Test drive following service yielded no searching or lurching symptoms. Guess time will tell. Said it just looked like 85k mile fluid that needed to be drained and refilled. Used meyle filter/gasket and zf fluid. Hopefully this is resolved for a good amount of miles.

Also said mounts were just fine. As well as overall, the car is in fine shape. No leaks, suspension bits (control arms, tie rods, cv, etc) all in good shape.

I am going to re-code the trans to disable dsp and implement “old” tip program though once i get my vagcom/cable later this week.

No codes active or pending. Seems a little odd considering the stall issue though. Oh well. Fingers crossed.

Personal test drive for an hour or so in usual traffic conditions and other acceleration scenarios where I noticed symptoms proved positive in that it felt smoother and less to no hesitation and searching. Also got to throw it around some curves to feel the new sways more. I like it

Getting ready to change my plugs. I know it should be an easy straight forward job. But to be safe are there any tips tricks or common snags to look out for? Thanks

Edit: just saw jimmybones diy. Should be enough to get me through job. Thanks for posting that jb. Addressed most things i have found to be a pita like the brittle and easily broken plastic tabs/clips. So frustrating

Done. Always takes longer and more of a hassle for me. Oh well. Old plugs looked wet but im no expert. Car was parked on a slight decline

And of course managed to break one of the coil pack connections

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/08/99ec112e6069f50cfe09c40a9d0a584d.jpg

Can these be had seperately or do i need the entire connected row of 4?

But managed to reconnect and properly route some things that were jacked up.

I have a hell of a time pulling the plug socket out without it disconnecting from the extension and staying on the plug in chamber after tightening it down. Annoying and basically 90% reason it took longer than need be.

Test drive and idle checked out and hopefully i did the job right.

Oh man there is a good tip in the compression check video that CV made I do that trick. Check it out for next time. You can replace the clip but unless it’s falling off leave it be. LOL its that annoying

The transmission fluid makes sense. When it gets beat like that it’s no good and the filter starts to get clogged

The plugs looked done. They were black looking. That’s saying the car is running rich from what I can see. Gets the cats out that’s the major contributing factor.

Thanks man. I do need/want to address my exhaust. Only problem is very little support for allroad. Really love a jhm fabbed header to 2.75 all the way back but i think it may need to be one off. Not sure if the s4 stuff will be direct fit. We’ll figure it though im sure

And the clip snaps in place fine, its just that the left corner snapped off when pulling harness off. Guess i went too fast. Before i knew it it broke free and it was done.

They are super brittle. The cool thing is lots of the s4 stuff works and stuff like piggies you can do yourself until you get the car to jhm like you were talking about. I’m sure if it will fit they will love to put it on.

True.

Any more insight/thoughts on those plug threads being oily? My coils werent bad at all. Worries me a bit about how much oil appears to be on all those plugs. And not fresh oil per say just really old n grimey oil

Car will be in for some love come spring time. Planning for it since day one. Hell even before picking it up.

Test fit only and verification of upright clearance using 15mm adaptor + 5mm spacer. All seems good. I may get 21mm adaptors made just to be safe though. All this for nothing as they are going away for winter storage. Oh well, had to verify spacer width. I’m pretty much sold. Entirely different feel to the car with these. 18x10 et35, 20mm spacing with 265/40 tires

Now for some IPP arms and more level 1 low [emoji2]

The oil might have just been from valve cover seepage. That’s not terribly uncommon

Vagcom registered and active. Did my own scan. All is clear except a locking code. I think it is from when my rear hatch wasnt shut all way and system wouldnt fully lock and set alarm. Aside from that nothing.
Also recoded my tip to old tip strategy and turned off DSP. Soft code 0000022

Still want a 6mt swap tho

Whispbars installed. So lopro, me likes. And confirmed the load warrior roof basket mounts wont interfere with roof which is a plus. Also a new rear wiper. Pretty sure the one on there was original lol! Still had the “made in germany” stamp. Basically metal on glass.

Next to pull dp for piggies and install new magnaflow catback (2.5") on order. Got a good price ($750 shipped) so it should suit my needs/wants fine for time being. Also contacted jhm for ecu/tcu tunes.
