Decision to get APR TCU software

Come on west lets not go there besides you’ve already been proven wrong as some PDK’s are sourced from Audi… Did you forget the facts yet again? I don’t know why you come in posts and try to change the topics and start shit… Go drive you boxster and enjoy your superior PDK…

Kind of like how westwest troll mode unfortunately requires banhammer.

Not trying to hijack but I’m getting 5k service reminders and I’m only at 3000 miles. Called dealer and asked if it’s 5k or 6 months and he said I should come in now- but that doesn’t jive with AoA Maint Schedule docs. Has anyone run in to this and did you wait for mileage or time frame to service? I know prime did his on a time basis but my car mostly putts around and has seen redline only once in 8 months. (BTW- not trying to be cheap, just that taking my car for service is an all day event I’d rather delay if possible).
Thanks!

yup. Someone who isn’t so great so far.

Also, do APR even own a DSG S4? I thought they sold everything off.

I believe it’s time or mileage based and I want to say the 5K one is set for 6 months not 1 year… All the others ones are 1 year or the appropriate mileage… I didn’t do my 5K until 1 year though and did all the rest about 1 year about as Audi Care somewhat dictates when you get it done… You can also reset very easily with vagcom, let me know if needed I could take a screen shot, but if you go into the SRI tab it’s right there so to say…

[quote] All that’s necessary is a software reflash for the engine computer ($2999 installed) that can be performed at any of APR’s 400-plus partner Audi dealers.

Although our testing wasn’t without issues—an APR engineer had to exorcise a demon from our car’s brain before it ran properly—the additional thrust had the 4508-pound Audi pulling violently with the Thor hammer down.

Yes, they bought a 2014. Then also had a 2012, this might have been an employee’s car.

interestingly it wasn’t so quick. Wonder what was wrong with the car.

Indeed- there is a guy on AZ that’s posted a 10.75 @ 130 slip with APR Stage 1 100 Map- of course that’s at PBIR

Corner store gasoline. I still think everyone’s perceptions about aftermarket software are not aligned with reality. They trade off your fuel mileage and carbon emissions for a slight increase in power, on the order of 8-10% more HP, 5% more torque, and 25% worse gas mileage. The engineers at Audi are not morons and didn’t hobble your car for marketing reasons. They wanted you to get good gas mileage in the event you end up driving 17,000 miles a year. You can make more power but you have to start modding other, more expensive things. Soon you end up $20k out of pocket to get the advertised +90HP or +110HP.

Well guys, I got the TCU + ECU update. Only had time to drive it back on the FWY. I did *disable auto upshift, *disable auto downshift and *4k max RPM. Haven’t tried LC yet. Was probably a bad idea to disable auto downshift, because seeing the kickdown mode work in ‘S’ mode is pretty marvelous. I’ll probably reflash to fix that. The revs are definitely higher now…it’s weird, but my P3 gauge starts blinking when I get above the factory redline. I wonder what that is…

Bouncing off the redline is intense, the car is revving way higher than before and it hits the limiter very quick. I would think doing this would be bad for the trans/engine. Probably won’t do this too much.

I’ll post my impressions once I get some real seat time. Going to Milan on Wed with a revo stg 2 + dsg friend, so will have a good relative benchmark to compare with even if the DA sucks. My mod list is more substantial, so if he beats me, then it’s time to start figuring out what’s wrong.

I’ll start doing some logging and shoot them to Ron/jran to see how the car is running.

Good stuff drob! Looking forward to more impressions as you drive the car more… Really interested how your LC works… So you went with all 3 at 4K? No clue on the gauge issue… Excited to see how it does at the strip even in a shitty da… I think you’ll take the revo car assuming both are on pump… Good times!

The way it works with the normal TCU flash is you only specify the “max” LC RPM at the time of flashing. Then, you get either the max LC with pedal at 100%, the min LC (which I assume is 2k?) when the pedal is barely pressed, and then something in the middle (3k?) with pedal near kick down? I don’t know…will have to play with it ;D

Yea we’ll see, going with some people he works with and they put the times into a spreadsheet, so semi-permanent bragging rights lol There will be some 9 second cars there so not exactly gonna be showing off.

Drob, change your shift light rpm in the P3 settings to higher than your redline.

Blinking will go away. I had same issue.

Ahhhhh funny, kind of cool actually, will definitely use that at the track. Bouncing off the rev limiter didn’t feel great.

Great to see you got the DSG tune. It’s a lot of money but it does unlock a lot of ore abilities. I would love to hear your review and compare that to your original feeling pre flash.

I thought you meant Milan, Italy.

Considering this was apr’s own car and considering an Apr engineer (lol) delivered it to the writers I’d assume it was loaded with race gas on the race file.

Exactly

Alrighty, tcu flash completed about 45 minutes ago. So far so good, smash and go seems to work ;although, it’s been raining up here in the northeast I gave it a little part throttle test 1st thru 2nd and it seemed fine. Shifting is very smooth, 3 step LC is easy to activate and cars shifting at 7150/7200. Will wait for dry weather obviously before thrashing her and giving you’ll more feedback. I was surprised at the turn around time that it took APR to build the tune after the code was extracted from computer about 2 business days, kudos to them.
