Decision to get APR TCU software

I didn’t get to drive the car much over the weekend (went to the Belle Isle race in Detroit) but I’ve got a couple work commutes done. Have to say I don’t notice much of a drivability improvement in terms of everyday driving. I daily either the S4 or a DSG mk6 GTI, and then B8.5 trans was a lot smoother with factory software than the GTI. The only real difference I notice is the paddle initiated 2-1 shift seems to slip the clutch more when pulling to a stop, so less of an abrupt jerk.

But if you flashed either DSG software on there, I probably couldn’t tell if it was the factory or APR software. Unless of course I was pulling to red line lol.

The ECM tune does seem to pull more consistently. I do like that there are no “issues” with the tune. I’m pretty sure APR was developing the B8.5 file on their test vehicle, and I bet it was always running both TCU and ECM software.

I’m still on for Milan tomorrow. Conditions are perfect today, hopefully they stay cool tomorrow. Will make sure to log and post slips. I’m going to investigate logging tonight, possibly see what interesting signals I can pull from the TCU. Only hangup is I bet Milan will be really busy tomorrow. So not sure how many passes I’ll get.

funny thing is they (Michiganers) pronounce it MY-lan

I love ignorant mispronunciations of US/Canada towns/cities named after foreign cities.

There’s a town 1hr from here called Delhi. The locals pronounce it DELL Hi. Guess they’ve never heard of India.

Sorry to hijack, but I have an APR wireless dongle that I no longer need.

Anybody in the market? $50

As in cable for flashing?

No it’s for map switching via phone app.

Hey man,

How’s the data logging feature? I might be interested (assuming I don’t need a tune).

Is it transferable or locked to one car?

Ok looked at logging the tcu, these seem like reasonable signals.

Sorry for being uninformed on the topic, but do these tuners actually decompile the machine code into source code (with placeholder variable and object names)? Are they brute force decrypting the program in storage, or just reading the program when it’s decrypted and loaded into memory?

What? Your kidding, right. What you speaking of mister?

I’m really not sure how they do it, West. I’m guessing here but like the engine ecu; the tcu has a box code that that they need to adjust the tune to the specific model, build date, who the hell knows. Maybe someone with more knowledge and experience with this can chime in… Doooo on my part, lmao.

Pretty spot on drop…hehehe

Scott,

You need a tune.

Going to Englishtown Racway this afternoon if the weather holds up this afternoon. Anyone interested in meeting up leave me a message.

i would double check before you head down. think it is closed for the nationals that start tomorrow. i don’s see anything mentioning racing open tonight. was thinking of headed out since the weather should be pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up. I messaged them earlier let’s see if they get back to me. They usually do…

drob, Yeah those looks pretty good… I’ve got a spreadsheet with most of the fields on it and I couldn’t find anything that seems more useful and w/o testing who knows… Please share the logs and I’ll do some as well in the next few days/this weekend… You hitting the strip tonight?

moogas1, hopefully they’re open and you can get some passes! Keep us posted…

Yup, they’re closed for semifinals practice…that sucks…Oh well.

Will do, yes, going this afternoon. Weather looks decent, not horrible but not the best. Now I’m trying to figure out if I can source some MS109 to see if the timing pull (I’m expecting this as I had it before) is fuel related. I probably also need to replace spark plugs at 30k miles…

Is there a consensus about which is better (I know there is a thread a couple down), keep in mind I’m stg 2.

NGK (2668) BKR8EIX Iridium IX http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B6VUTM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Or OEM http://www.europaparts.com/spark-plug-101905611g.html

Hard to say. I’m pretty sure Ron uses oem, Pete uses OEM for all his record passes, however, I used iridium 9’s on my latest pass.
