DRC caps/plugs for the B7 RS4
I did, heaviest part is the cans in the back at maybe 5lbs or something like that. I wanna say Mick weighed his a long time ago and it was around that. Maybe a pound or two of fluid. It’s a real PITA to remove all the lines, but a good set of snips can go a long way.

You mentioned parts you’ve tested and are testing. Care to share information on those?

I have the cans off if anyone wants weights.

That would be good info to put it out there for others. This thread is quite appropriate for it:

Would you be able to weight other parts as well, like lines and whatnot…

Sure, most of it I’ve posted about before:
OS Giken LSD - operational, no issues thus far.
Oil cooling solution - I’ve tried a few things that didn’t work. I think I have a path forward, but it needs to be implemented…two weeks, ha!
PVC replacement - still being fabbed, should be ready any time
Upgraded trans components - soon

I need to pull the motor and implement all the above at once, along with fixing the annoying little oil leak on the timing cover.

Is oil cooling really that big of a problem? I guess for guys who roadrace it could be, but isn’t oil temp kind of a happy median. Too cool you can risk damage/wear just as easy as the oil being too hot?

when you’re in a session at a California track, there’s no such thing as ‘too cool’. They’re probably seeing oil temps that bottom out at 110 Celsius.

110 Celsius is 230 Fahrenheit.

That is not that hot for oil temps. I have seen 270 F at Summit Point WV before.

Spending a lot of time at high rpm sends oil temps up to the 270-280 range pretty easily. Short-shifting at 7k gets them down to 245ish. You’re right about the warm-up part as well…I’m planning to use a built-in thermostat as well to prevent over-cooling the oil and not letting it get up to operating temp.

and that’s why I said BOTTOM OUT, not top out.

Koolade you shouldn’t generalize. There are members here who would roast your 460hp RS4 on any track with your car while theirs had 100hp-200hp less. There are also dozens of members here who are quite into HPDEs… SO again, I don’t understand your attempt at defining the site/members/etc by how we measure our power mods lol.

Attempting to drive this wedge, or create this battleground over roadcourse guys vs. 1/4 mile guys is comical and frankly confusing. It has been a typical fallback of the weakminded ‘enthusiasts’ who bought shitty parts and were terrified of the 1/4mile as they feared it would expose the warts on their purchases. All of quattrofail comes to mind.

If you want to make a division with 1/4 mile guys vs someone it would be the dyno guys. That’s how some people measure their car’s power/performance, and the 1/4 mile is how some people here would prefer to do so. Since you speak with disdain and irreverence about the 1/4 mile and ‘1/4 mile guys’…does that make you a dyno queen since you post on quattrofail and azine with the ‘dyno guys’? Hopefully you see the stupidity.

As I’ve said repeatedly, the 1/4 mile isn’t a pastime, sport or a hobby for anyone. It’s a measurement. We don’t spend thousands on this and plan our calender around it. We might go once a year, for $20. That’s it. It’s a cost efficient, and far more fun, dyno. And it’s a vicious truth scale that can’t be manipulated.

Hey kind of off topic but, do they actually make carbon fiber trim for our cars? Or do you just mean wrapping the existing trim? I want to do this as well.

On the topic of suspension, has anyone seen or used the H&R street coilovers for the RS? They seem pretty inexpensive and I think I might pull the trigger.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/602896-ECS-Tuning-B7-RS4-H-amp-R-Street-Performance-Coilover-Kits

Yes, it was an OEM option. You can also go the Ocarbon route, but I think that could take decades.

Not sure about the H&R coilovers, I’m sure someone has them. Like I’ve mentioned I’m really happy with these STs, I’d hardly consider them “cheap” they are just cost-effective and meet my needs. ST is part of KW suspension and the coilover design is identical to the KW V1. Spring rates are identical too. The only difference is the material the shock body is made of (stainless vs galvanized)

carbon fibre trim was standard on the RS4
aluminium (brushed) was optional (free option)
piano black was offered on the titanium package cars and may have been a no cost option on regular cars too (not sure)

Ahh I’m an idiot, I thought you meant the EXTERIOR trim. I do in fact have the C/F interior trim.

Yeah I’ve never heard anything bad about the ST coilovers. A buddy of mine has had them on his B6 S4 for quite some time now (couple years at least) and hasn’t had any issues that I know of. Decisions decisions…

Also does anyone have actual data of the weight difference between bags and traditional coilovers? I’d be interested to see that. I don’t hate the idea of bags, especially with NJ roads and winters.

I haven’t heard anyone actually hate the idea of bags to be honest.

What people hate is people who make shitty choices with their air suspension

 1. parking your car with the thing slammed and looking like a retard owns the car or like the car collapsed

 2. cambering your 20" wheels/running stretched tires so you can be a tucked baller loser and win car shows full of VW golfs

That shit looks dumb, and people will say so.

There’s a member here named Cory who has airbags on his A4 and it looks great every time I see it. It’s a functional, well performing suspension option. A bit expensive maybe, but hey, go nuts.

Yeah I agree. Tomatoes went a little overboard with his latest look, but whatever makes you happy I suppose.

I just wanna know where he gets all this money from. I mean shit, he’s probably dumped at least $50k into that thing, right? And that’s money he will never get back. I’ve put a few grand into my car but I couldn’t justify putting in the amount that he has just to have the “best” RS4. I’d rather have a 997 turbo :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I might wait until after the winter to buy these coilovers though. If we have a winter in NJ like we did last year, lowering would be an awful move for me right now. OP thanks again for the advice on the DRC plugs. Nice to save $100 here and there. Not all of us are baller status ;D

And FT if you’re reading this, I’m not bashing you in the least, I just have never seen someone change literally every bolt and nut in the car (besides meem) lol. Props to you for barely having a stock part left on the car besides the body.

Don’t apologize for being honest…

I bet he still lives with his parents. Have you seen how stupid his new GMC Sierra Denali looks?

I think what you (and Audizine) are missing is that he isn’t paying for any of this shit.

Who starts a thread every 4 minutes every time they take a photo of their car?
Who makes a thread and does shout outs to every single part and shop that touches the car, putting big thank yous and inserting web links in the thread linking to those non-site-sponsor businesses?

Someone who is being paid to do so.

He sounds like a fucking NASCAR driver. “Yeah, it was a good win at a strong car show, lots of nice slammed golfs. before I get into that though, I need to send a thanks to joe’s airbags and APR motorkillers for some great parts. They’re really knocking it out of the park!”

While he has certainly piled a boatload of money into his car, having a job and living with your parents make that easy. However I think a lot of you guys are being lied to, in that he isn’t just some objective customer who buys stuff and talks about it. He is fucking advertising for those companies in exchange for product so he can go and meet new boyfriends on the show tour.

I think it’s pretty funny because all of the sycophantic followers he has (great word, instagram) are buying the shit he is getting for free. Including the APR supercharger which is killing motors left and right on the forums, including his own. Ironic that you mentioned meem…meem is the one with some money. Oh and meem also has a blown motor RS4 too, courtesy of his APR supercharger kit, that he no doubt relied on flying fatso for a review of.

I challenge all of you guys…on Audizine, in his latest advertisement, ask him straight up and pointedly

“Do you receive any compensation or reduced pricing or free parts from any of these companies you have mentioned?”

You can see these losers a mile away.

 1. buy 4.2 car
 2. buy JHM stuff because it’s great
 3. get courted by JHM’s competitors and install their supercharger/exhaust/clutch/tune/etc
 4. promote (APR, VF, PES, AMvivgmgkmd etc) in exchange for your deal and then attack JHM, their biggest strategic competitor
 5. use social media/your own website/other forums where no JHM supporters reside in order to drum up an army of morons to ‘follow’ you in your crusade
 6. kill your car and fade away into obscurity once you’re found out

ngng, DrQuattro, mick, kryptonik (not as bad), BenSTI, gesTTalt/tridoctor, flyingshitberg…take your pic. There are a dozen of these guys…and you new guys get fooled EVERY time.

Well I’m not really “new”, I’ve been on Audizine since October '06 and have had an RS4 since November '10. I just don’t get how these guys get parts for free for just posting on forums. I mean shit, you wouldn’t do that? I’m not sure I would bash other companies in the process, definitely not, but shit if APR paid me to say “hey our supercharger is the best” I’ll be damned if I don’t cash in on a $15k+ supercharger lol.

Now whether or not it’s blowing motors is not the point here, just sayin, I don’t see how these guys just get picked up and “sponsored” all of a sudden. Maybe I’m just jealous? :-\
