Yeah, I love driving a manual but I fully acknowledge that the S-Tronic is a wonderful piece of hardware. I just don’t like the software implementation, at least as they have it on this car. Manual mode should be just that…manual. No shifting for me unless I’m about to stall. Then you’d really have the best of both worlds.
The main reasons i avoided it were that, that it is a fancy thing in a crucial area of the car that can break and be very expensive, the stick was cheaper and more engaging, and it is another variable for a tuner to deal with that can cause problems.
Manuals work, they usually won’t break unless you don’t know how to drive one (and if they do, it will likely be a quick failure inside the warranty period), and even clutch wear can be mitigated.
All that said, if the S-tronic had a true manual mode I would have ordered my car with one, other factors be damned.
Ken, At this point I just want to see his slip and if those times are not real that is total BS and they should be held accountable for that… They push their product and I want to see the results, I know I sound anti GIAC, and as it’s gone lately I am but if they make something that is as good as claimed I’ll be first in line… I hope someone helps you out with a tip tune as I know you want it bad… I can relate…
Brandon, Thanks! To be fair and I already mentioned it but there was at least 1-2 gallons of 100 in the tank with 3 gallons of 93… I don’t need to be disparaged again by GIAC so I want to emphasize that like I did in my original post… I switched the tune once I put the 93 in and drove 10ish miles so it was adapted so to say…
not_armed, thanks man! I feel the same about you and glad you’re one of the few customers pushing the b8.5 and running GIAC’s product!
Helix/Saki, Agreed, the dual clutch is great especially the consistency… Drag racing has always proven to be more slanted to “auto” cars especially as power increases because it takes out a variable of making 2-3 shifts… IMO, though at our power levels and given me only being able to launch at 700RPM I sincerly believe with a good clutch I could do better in a 6-speed car with a few practice runs… Heck I went 1.67 60 ft in my stock TTRS… I doubt a stock s-tronic TTRS could do that… Just my .02!
Real manual mode would be great. Surprising that’s not how it is. Bounce off the rev limiter and don’t upshift ever…and only change down if it is via anti-stall as you come to a stop. Simple. Not sure how they cocked it all up. Sport mode shifts earlier than auto? WTF?
Manuals do work, but from the looks of it, the clutch in the B8 S4/5 is pretty weak. It’s unfortunate because it’s not like they didn’t know the car makes boatloads of torque. Rather than solve the weakness, they just banned the manual in the ROW for the facelift. It’s still available in America, but hardly anyone buys them manual. A quick search of auto trader shows a shocking dominance of DSG.
Ken, Totally understood I was just making the point that hey if you don’t want to come over here no problem… However, you claimed times now back them up like us "customer’ have done… Sorry for the confusion!
I was surprised about them being the tuner at the end. I was not surprised by their reaction based on how they also responded to the whole APR bricked ECU on AZ.
So Austin has been online a few times but no slips to back his quoted times… Pretty sad that a tuner makes up numbers and almost as sad that no one outside of the folks like skid and Brandon ask to see them… I think it may be time I get banned from vendorzine…
He may just not want to post the shitty 1/4 et. He is trying to control a product launch after all. But he shouldn’t have opened his mouth if he can’t back it up.
Companies say what they’ve done in development all the time and don’t show proof. I. E. Jhm has mentioned a few slips on the forums they haven’t shown us yet however they’ve earned a level of performance proof trust and as a result people accept their claims readily. Giac hasn’t really done that in the b8 community. Rather they’ve shot themselves in the foot with some surreptitious marketing strategies
-1fast pretending to be a customer when he’s really a Giac dealer
-that douche bag who works for raven motors ports, a Giac dealer, pretending he was a customer too, and showing a 91 octane Giac stage 1 dynosheet that made 402 whp. What a joke that was. The Giac 91 cars went 12.8-13.0. Fatzero . He accidentally posted from the @ravenMS main account then quickly deleted it
-talking trash about other companies’ CUSTOMERS results (the whole prime time pump gas thing which was fucking absurd)
Saki, that is the only reason I haven’t posted because I don’t want it locked and that would give them a reason… If vendorzine locks it because good long term forum members are asking for real proof of a claim made by a top tier vendor that would be a real disappointment and send a horrible message… I would hope Arin would say something or even better have Stephen email Anthony and ask him wtf is up with that! I’m sure vendorzine brings in a ton of revenue and profit for APR so probably wishful thinking on my part but the only ones who can hold the vendors accountable is the site or other vendors…
^^^If you said you wouldn’t post there, don’t post thre.
I left AZ in a protest ages ago, hten after like 18 months went back to blast APR for lying about something and got banned . Wish I hadn’t. Not because I blasted APR…I am happy to have done that. I just wish I hadn’t been banned because every little bitch on earth mentions it like it hurts your credibility (ironic…calling out a company for lying hurts MY credibility!!!)
Also, interesting they use a weather station for their “claimed” DA… According to dragtimes at the times they ran the DA was 1105 - 1309… Lol. I’m sure they were running 37psi as well… Nice stories!
