DSG tune from GIAC...

Ya we’ll never know whether he was at 37psi. I think the bottom line is that they should sever marketing ties with 1fastscam. He comes across as a very sketchy character - I don’t think Austin realizes that. Why not just run your own times and post your own slips/videos?

Like I said he is an employee so whatever… I figured all along those were the times he was referring to… Ill start photoing my weather station from now on and use a random time to record the DA…

After that TTRS story over on Vortex, I’m not so sure GIAC would be a company I’d want to deal with (the one where a GIAC tuned TTRS shat an engine, Audi will replace the engine even though they knew it was tuned, GIAC don’t want nothing to do with it, not even a refund on ECU)

Yup. Which is why I stated that GIAC shld have jumped at the chance to buy that guy’s ecu. Bad bad move on their part. Thing is, I don’t think GIAC is releasing bad products for the B8 - it’s just their questionable marketing and nonsensical inclusion of 1fastscam within that scheme. Doesn’t make sense, or inspire confidence.

No way dude… He said ‘I’ve seen’ and ‘I will be’

He is lying.

Anyway did they mention the tcu tune on 1fastsalesrep back when they posted those times?

Damn I try to give the guy an out, but you’re saying that his posts on AZ clearly referenced his own times as opposed to someone else’s (I.e., 1fastscam)? It’s all nonsense, and I’m glad we don’t see this type of shit from APR.

You guys are blowing this up.

Austin said he’s seen 1Fasts 60’ times, and that he will be trying different pressures to mimic.

Those times were posted with the knowledge of the tcu tune.

Not when he said ‘I’ve seen…’ and ‘I will be airing down…’

well_armed, Here is my problem with how Austin has/had presented things… When you make comments like the below it really implies that he personally ran the time… IE the “I have seen” and “I will be airing down” probably has most folks inferring that he ran those times… If you had 100 people read that statement and then asked them if they thought the person who wrote it was talking about a personal experience 95+ of them would say yes it sounds like a personal experience… It wasn’t though and in fact he wasn’t even present… He should have said “Our employee 1fasts4.com has seen 1.68 60’ @37psi in the tires. He will be airing down when the weather cools down to see what can be done”

“I have seen 1.68 60’ @37psi in the tires. I will be airing down when the weather cools down to see what can be done.”

Then on top of that when Arin essentially questions the greatness of these numbers he immediately starts throwing out BS things about me and my car w/o any facts. He also states that he knows 37psi isn’t optimal and that there was a great deal of spin… So why didn’t he make an adjustment, which is what drag racing is all about… Oh that’s right it wasn’t him and he wasn’t even there… Maybe 1fast should learn a little more about drag racing…

He also goes on in that post to make comments like “I’ve yet to test in anything 1600’(nor have I been on a launch pad)” Too me “I’ve” implies he not 1fast… The best part is 1fast was in a much better DA than 1600’ but again that wouldn’t make the numbers look as good so why not fib a little and no one questioned it because 1fast had a screen shot of his weather station from earlier in the day… Check my links the DA wasn’t that bad and it was 1100ish on one run… Also, not sure what he means by a launch pad???

I know I’m a hater! If he was a little more factual and not as pompous about their product I would STFU but as long as he continues to LIE and make things up I will badger them on this little website… Oh I know he is reading this… So does anyone know why 1fast got rid of the old car??? LOL I’ve heard some rumors… Is it up for sale anywhere?

Hey guys,

I had a few PM’s on AZ to come over here, so I figured I’d pop in to answer any questions. Regarding the time slip, that is indeed 1fast’s time slip. I was with him at Famoso in the GIAC GTI (picture with the weather station). The only time Austin has run his car at the strip was earlier this year at Sacramento, before we had a DSG flash available. You can look at his times over on the official quarter mile list, but his 60’ times were in the 1.8x range. Given this, it would SEEM that the DSG flash did help 1fast on his 60’ (as he ran in a higher DA than Austin). Until someone runs back to back before and after DSG flash, the jury is still out.

The only back to back data I have is on an S5 that made large improvements in the 100-200 kmh. Here is a link to that post if you want to look at it:

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/545120-GIAC-Stage-1-B8-5-3-0T-Engine-amp-S-Tronic-Software-Before-amp-After-Vbox-Testing

Regarding the weather station, we purchased one because we found that dragtimes was typically inaccurate. There were a few times where we were at the track and dragtimes live temperature was 10 degrees off. So while it does give you a decent ballpark, I wouldn’t consider it written in stone.

Any other questions, let me know

Thanks Thomas and welcome to AR! I appreciate the honesty shame Austin didn’t state all this up front but none the less the times are good! Tell him to play with the air pressure at the track and I have found about 4 psi less in the rears work better… Also, I would love too see some passes with LC and without… Glad you guys are pushing the platform and I can’t wait for the higher redline with dsg flash once apr releases it…

Thanks for the welcome. We’ll be going back to Sacramento once the temperatures come down to try to get some runs in a negative DA. When I was at Famoso with 1fast, his best 60’ times were actually with a bit more tire pressure. When we aired them down to low 30’s, the 60’ wasn’t as good. Pretty crazy, his car was spinning all four through first gear. I think he just needs a stickier compound, because the 1-2 shift is perfect after the DSG flash.

It would be exciting to see a DSG flash on your car. That extra RPM definitely helps!

Welcome! The more the merrier in terms of companies.

Feel free to start another thread but looking for more info on that ttrs situation. It’s been viewed as negative for giac but we haven’t heard but the sides.

I’m a bit limited in my knowledge, as I never actually saw the motor. In terms of the handling of matters such as this, the decision ultimately goes to the higher up. I don’t want to say anything negative about the customer, because in my limited dealings with him he was a genuinely nice guy. From my second-hand perspective in talking with the shop who tore the motor down, there was not evidence of detonation on the pistons (piston ring broke). It was suggested that there could have been an oil starvation issue, although I cannot honestly say if this was the case.

It would be hard to defend our side without making the customer look poorly, which is not something I wish to do. My thoughts are that B8 owners know all too well how strict AoA is with warranties. To replace an entire motor at no cost to the customer would suggest an acknowledgement of a legitimate mechanical issue. So while the causes of the issues can be narrowed down, how these issues were dealt with between parties will ultimately come down to a “he said, she said” forum banter. In the effort to respect the customer, I will refrain from commenting on that side of the dispute.

Thomas

Welcom great adition to this thread and the site. Looking forward to more from giac todd from awe also comes on here often to add good information. I think lots of b8 guys come here for information without the chatter and kiddy play of AZ

Thomas, that’s interesting that he was spinning with less pressure as its somewhat counter intuitive given the larger contact path… Not doubting it though since I wasn’t there… I can get a way with higher pressure this time of year and that helps on the big end with less resistance… I’m running 245 conti dws just for reference…

This will be the last shot I take at Austin since you aren’t him and you seem much more honest and rationale in your few posts here and the ones I read on vendorzine… Funny that Austin claimed different tire pressures weren’t tested but now you are telling us they were… Thanks again for the honesty! Shame Austin twists things so much…

Yeah I am excited for the extra rpms especially with the bigger blower, wish your dsg tune was compatible with other tunes I would already own it but I believe apr will have me covered sooner than later… You guys planning a blower upgrade? Can you share anything on that or other products in the pipeline?

I respect you taking the high road on the ttrs… I suspect the motor had a factory defect which is why AOA replaced it…

Welcome Thomas, thanks for clearing all that up

Thanks for replying, Thomas, back to business, look forward to hearing news from you and giac

In Austin’s defense, he wasn’t at the track so he just received what 1fast relayed to him about what tire pressure was used. But anyways…

There are a few products that are being looked at. We haven’t looked too much into a blower solution, but if someone came to us with a well-engineered model we would certainly be willing to discuss tuning it. I think we might be able to squeeze a little more power out of the stock blower, so keep an eye out for some updates. No promises, but we’re looking into some options

I would submit that you need to speak to AWE on that one. GIAC = software only, generally.
