For proper operation, DSG trans programming on this car is most likely going to be tied to engine ECU programming. So don’t count on mixing and matching software tuners.
Pete, Yeah most of the time I run, with the exception of early spring late fall is in worse DA… I am in the office so don’t have my slips handy but I have gone 11.8x-11.9x in similar DA’s but didn’t trap as well… I ran last summer in 3500+ DA and went 12.0 many times…
As for what it would do in a sea level to negative DA, I think 11.6x @ 120ish is certainly realistic given his trap and what we have seen from DA improvements… No doubt his car is performing well… With the DSG tune and other mods he has made he probably has the fastest S4 out there minus Paper’s buddy that runs spray… He needs to post the # though and that will get tougher once we hit June/July/Aug… He’ll probably need to hit Sac. late one night when the DA is decent… I’m sure GIAC wants the record until the new blower comes out and I would say there is a good chance especially if they don’t sell the DSG tune to non GIAC tuned cars… Other avenues will be available so if they don’t want the money I’ll wait…
Awesome! Thanks for the insight. I was hoping for around those numbers for my pops car. I’m hoping to hit some good #'s if a get any good DA runs in the next few weeks. I know my 11.8 has more in it too… Would be cool to get my manual car into the 11.6 range although it won’t be easy…

Todd, Thanks for the reply… While disappointing I understand… Wonder how HPA will work it out with many more ECU tuners now? Either way I can wait as I plan to start full bore on the TTRS soon anyway… It’s a much funner, albeit much slower car to drive, heck I haven’t driven the S4 but two times since I got the RS… It goes for the 25K mile service this week and it’s got 7,4xx miles… lol
I get the impression that they are fixing the DSG shifting issues WITH the TCU tune. In my exchanges with Austin about DSG Stage II tunes, he has mentioned certain torque monitoring issues with the transmission. This, and the timing of the TCU tune, leads me to believe the two are related and this would also be the reason that the TCU tune would only be offered to GIAC tuned customers. Makes sense if they are utilizing the TCU tune to fix an ECU issue with their Stage II. Time will tell if my assumptions are correct.
So to get a properly operating GIAC DSG ECU tune, you have to pay $1200 or whatever it is for that, and then buck up for the not yet released TCU tune?

I have NO issues with DSG shifting mine works as it should… It has the occasional hangup but it is rare… My main need is a higher redline so I don’t have to shift to 5th in the 1/4 mile… Since 1fastS4 is still cutting worse 60ft times than my stock DSG I am not as impressed with that aspect…
Pete, Nice… Can you elaborate on some of the night and day differences? Are shifts themselves really that much faster? Does LC feel strong? if possible do some logs with just rpm so the sample rate is real high… curious on shift points… It seems there is still a delay after launch but the 60’s 1fast put down are nice… Looking forward to the vbox and strip results especially since 1fastS4 were pretty good… Good stuff man!
I didn’t say it was a logical way to sell tunes… just that my personal impressions are that they (GIAC) feel that the best way to deal with the torque monitoring issues they ran into with the Stage II DSG tunes was to handle that through the TCU software. As for pricing, well, the market will determine if it’s worth it or not…
Personally, I feel $700 is a bit steep. That being said, as soon as Stage II and the TCU tune are available for the B8.5s, I’ll be first in line.
@ Auditude, REALLY looking forward to your and tsivas’s testing and track experiences!! Can’t wait to see the actual data logged differences!
Overall I think it’s exciting to see the entire platform progressing forward with more tuning options, a TCU tune, and an impending Stage III release from APR (as well as another potential TCU tune from them).
