Engine drop question

Yes do the power steering pump since you have it out.
When I pulled the engine, we did not change the power steer pump and it failed afterwards when I was in the interstate. I did not have to pull the engine to change it due to having the custom manifolds otherwise the cat would have been in the way. Also, here is a picture of the cart we built.

Ok and yeah I was thinking about the power steering pump because on my old Audi it was a A6 2006 4.2 it went and it was a nightmare changing that and since that I had to pull engine on this car due to starter I figured that it would be something where whole engine has to be removed to change it and I’m thinking about changing the ac compressor while I’m at it

Do as much as you can while it’s out, and O2’s.

Audi change list

O2 sensors

Front and rear main seal

Coolant transfer pipe o ring (4)

Valve cover gasket and inner valve cover gasket

Orifice tube and receiver dryer

Balance shaft gasket

Pulley

Tensioner

Oil cooler gasket

4 Ac line gasket

Starter

Power steering pump

Ac compressor

Replace hoses that are going bad

That’s pretty much everything? right and I wouldn’t mind changing the headers how would I go by that?

What’s the (rough) total $ for all this, I think it covered most everything? I know @justincredible sees the value in gutting the OEM cats over spending for custom headers. Maybe even modify the OEM headers for O2 repositioning. Is that relocation documented anywhere?

@CountVohn do you have any records of where O2 relocation would go for OEM headers?

Maybe somewhere around 1600

Maybe add the torque converter to the list, if yours is not slipping or acting weird by now, doesn’t mean it won’t in the future? I don’t know about any of the seals on the trans either. I feel like there is a thread @Kimovitzh posted about seal replacement, very detailed.

Ok I’ll check that out

I’m going to get tensioners from Europa parts and autohausAZ. Mainly autohaus because the tensioner that has the coolant pipe running through it is 130 dollars less then the other site so it’s 120 instead of 250. Also going to get the gaskets that I can’t access when the engine is in the car are going to all be from the dealer while the others one I can access will be aftermarket. I’m pretty much saving a decent amount of money

Please be sure to provide part numbers, a Bill of Material always helps others.

Hey Revo I have a question the s6 and s8 are the same engine right because when I look up parts like power steering pump I can’t find it for s6 new or remanufactured but when I look it up for s8 I find it.

Power steering pump

Thanks I checked ecs earlier and I never found it

When we make the headers you need to take 02 location into consideration but since this is worked out in the tune it’s less of an issue.

We’ve built a lots of headers at this point and they for sure make power and more power than just manifolds with no cats by a good degree throughout the entire rev range. However; for the money you still can’t go wrong with just pulling out the cats.

Here is something to think about. If we just built headers with nothing more than just long runners that ended up at a collector. You’d make the same or actually a little less than just gutting the cats on OEM manifolds. I wouldn’t modify the OEM units. Just remove the cats if you feel so inclined and are looking for a bump in power.

As for the 02s. Just replace them with fresh 02s. Don’t skimp on the 02s. Remember most cars have over 100k on them and they didn’t need the 02s replaced in that time frame. As long as you’re not running race gas every week. They should be fine for quite a while. Even if you beat on the car.

Ok thank you and if I do pull the cats would it fail inspection?

Another question does it matter if I use aftermarket sealant then the genuine one?

You will never fail the visual inspection as one nobody can see the cats from the top. If you leave the cans in and just gut them then obviously its impossible for anyone to know there are no cats in there.

depending on your emissions standards and how the tests are run if you get the JHM tune for no cats you should be good to pass emissions. But again this is dependent on your local requrements.

aftermarket sealant is ok just make sure it handles the temp and usage requirements

Hey

This is everything that was done on my car. As for sealant, we used Mercedes sealant since my cousin works as a Mercedes mechanic and says it is the best. I have had zero leaks since the rebuild.
