Engine drop question

So the jhm tune will pass the emissions in NY? That’s all I’m worried about

Hey so i was wondering since i stripped the flywheel bolts could i use these to replace it they look the same but in a form i would rather prefer them to be in

Does the balance shaft gaskets have to be changed? And if so if I change the gaskets without removing the balance shaft would the balance shaft be offset at all or would I need the tool to fix it

I do not know how far you have torn the engine down, but if you have not messed with the timing chain circled in blue, you do not have to re-clock the balance shaft.

I haven’t got there yet I’m just asking before I go for it but I plan on changing every tensioner so your saying I have to re balance the balanceshaft if I pull that off right?

As long as you do NOT loosen (or remove) the sprocket from the end of the balance shaft and put match marks on the chain, crank and balance shaft sprockets before removing the chains, you will be able to restore the correct timing relationship between the crank and balance shaft.

So should I bother with that gasket or just let it be? Does it normally leak?

The only leak you would notice that is related to the balance shaft would be either out of the front bearing housing or its cover. Those are the three o-rings on the rhs of the picture below. You would see oil coming out around the cover just above the crank pulley. They were not leaking on my engine.

Ok thank you

So I just realized why these tensioners are so cheap because they revised the part so I was wondering should I just stay with the part since they are technically brand new?

I have a question for you guys what’s the gasket called for tube that’s runs coolant through the timing covers

I got you bud…

Item #23 and #24. I just got done doing mine; ordered both from FCP Euro (They have a sweet lifetime warranty). #24 is the one that usually leaks, but since you’re in there it’s best to replace the outer (#23) at the same time. Here’s a little write-up Justin dropped on my thread.

Also, the P/N’s may come back as that of a RS4 or V8 in general, I can assure you they’re the same…

Coolant Pipes by Joel Francisco

Thank you I appreciate it

Hey guys what’s your opinion on a Bosch remanufactured starter.

I understand the desire to save cost where possible. They took a broken or malfunctioning starter, fixed it/tested it and threw it back on the shelf. It should be good to go that route. Note that the warranty on the remanufactured one vs. the new one.

Yeah your right I’ll probably end up getting it from here

Hey so the only place the coolant can be getting into the oil is through coolant transfer pipes right? The car has almost overheated on me many times In past but I would catch it before it hits red. I don’t think it would be head gaskets at all. The coolant transfer pipe o rings were definitely leaking. I’m just paranoid of it still happening when I put whole engine back in. I’d figured I ask one more time before I do my tensioners and start putting it back together

I guess I’ll change the tensioners in middle then do the side ones after

Also does the head gasket look fine? Do I need to change it?
