Does anyone know a good way of removing the silicone it’s a nightmare trying to get it off other then a razor blade it’s that hard stuff that’s stuck and I’m trying to not scratch up the metal
Have you tried any hard plastic scrapers. I am having a hard time remembering what I did to that gasket to get it ready. The only thing I do remember is making sure I did not distort it too much when applying the new RTV.
BTW, the gasket looks good and I am pretty sure the coolant/oil mix is primarily from the coolant pipe O rings, not the head gasket.
Ed
I did hard scraper and used a regular razor blade and I just want to make sure that thing is good because I really do not want to go through trouble of pulling engine out and separating it again lol. I figured it has to be coolant pipes since when I took them off the gasket wasn’t no gasket anymore for it
I just need to get that black stuff off somehow
Try 220 sandpaper on a block very lightly. I do that when I do head gaskets after I have scraped what I can.
Ed
Alright I’ll try that thank you Ed
Hey Ed I did that and it got that stuff off thank you for that
You can use a drill and a brass brush. That’s what I use it works really well.
Good for carbon cleans as well. But using the brushes you can surface clean tough to get to spots really well. Works great for getting all kinds of stuff removed.
Do I need to change the rocker arms or leave them be
Let me know what you guys I’m going to put the cams back on tomorrow
Hi ! I would change the VVT solenoids o-rings btw… they are far more accessible in your situation and tend to leak, like all the gaskets on this engine😁
I changed all of them when engine was still in the car but I’ll change them again I mean it’s Murphy’s law so I’ll change them again
Hey guys I had a question what if I moved the o2 sensors on the car to a more accessible spot or the ones that are impossible to get to when engine is in the car? Would be there any problems
This one here is missing a round cap or whatever which is causing the rattling because it’s freely all over the place me and my father are thinking of trying to use screws to hold it into a place or maybe a piece of metal
A few answers. Sorry I didn’t jump in before.
No you don’t want to weld in the cover pipe. If it leaks your then screwed. Just replace the O rings and you probably won’t have to worry about it for the life of the car.
The intake manifold flaps. You have to be careful how you proceed here. Screws or anything you put in you need to be careful that they can’t come back out and then get sucked into the motor. I would be extremely careful with that.
Yeah we’ll be careful we are thinking of a way to make sure it doesn’t come out and it still turns I’ll update how it goes with this
