Engine drop question

I guess now I will buy a new y pipe for both sides since the flex pipe is broken

My question during my downtime for this can I put the entire engine in and put this in after or will it be to much trouble?

Looks like people have welded in new flex pipes. That’s what I plan on doing for my engine drop.

I reviewed the manual last night. For one side it says the Y pipe must be removed with the engine out. For the other side it says you can remove it with the engine in. In my post asking about flex pipes it looks like there may have been someone who got them out and back in with the engine in.

Yeah I guess it’s a mixed thing I assume it’s when the bolts are completely rusted and aren’t a bolt anymore so they can’t come off and I guess when they are still intact they can be removed when engine is still in the car

Definitely weld in new flex. A much more cost effective solution. That’s what I did.

I just bought new pipes for $540 a piece I didn’t want to be bothered with finding someone to weld it and pipe look like it was rusting all the way through

Going to use this socket to stop the flaps from rattling like they were before

Hey guys so I randomly thought of putting a o ring into this piece where it rattles and it actually stopped it from moving around which causes the rattle but my question is can a o ring survive in there? I do have the spacers and if they can’t survive I’m going to make a screw from outside that goes in to hold that into place. So screw will have threads where it will hold it in and on part where it’s holding the flaps I’ll make it round.

I’m thinking this if I go with the gasket route

I fixed the manifold flaps no more rattling

Looks great. while you have it open just double check each mount and if needed add a small amount of epoxy.

I did and expoy 2 of pieces back it probably was loose from manifold rattling freely and I have manifold back together and on the engine now I’m hooking up the final hoses before I put engine back in

Can the engine mounts be changed when the engine is in the car?

I have done it myself, but I needed the 3/8ā€ ratchet wrench that had 2 articulating joints to get to the top nut on the mount, especially for the driver side which is super hard.

I used one of the engine bay support bar that fits on either side of the engine bay.

Having triple squares helps a lot.

So pretty much I’ll have to drop the subframe and use the tool you listed

Or you just leave the subframe and still take it off?

I had to take the sway bar off, and one crossmember if I recall. It wasn’t very involved, just very tight

Ok I gotcha and on the other note I been up since yesterday putting engine in I have it all lined up I just have to jack it up and screw it all in and since I’m in NY and it’s raining like hell I made a tent over the car so I should have engine in today or early tomorrow morning. I have a tight deadline with finishing this car. I’m going to use the broken engine mount for now to get it driving and when I buy this lift next week from my friend I’ll change it. Engine mount is leaking fluid out but should hopefully make it another week or two lol

Does anyone know where this heat shield goes? I’m assuming it goes over the transmission shifter cable

That’s definitely for the shifter I figured that out. How do you install the shifter cable to transmission it’s giving me a hard time
