epl b8s4 tune

I figured I’d pop in over here and say hi. I read quite a bit here and appreciate the knowledgeable folks that participate here. Tony and I are working on this today. Lots of fun. Thanks to everyone that has given me the balls to try this.

Welcome to AR! Car is moving out very nicely… Looking forward to seeing full 1/4 results… Does it bleed boost in all gears and all rpm’s or just upper gears and R’s? Hopefully, EPL can correct that for you as it will probably impact you more on the back half of the track… I think it’s awesome Tony is working with you and making changes, and good for you taking the car to the track and getting real world results as that’s what it’s about.

I noticed you mentioned not using LC, does the car launch better with or w/o? Your definitely getting AMAX shifting in your latest video… Will be curious if EPL comes out with a DSG tune as to how it performs because your cars tranny is working very well, I can only hope mine will as well…

Keep us posted!

sorry, I just noticed he is running 2 pulleys. That makes sense that he’s bypassing.

I thought he was bypassing loads of boost on a normal stage 2 setup, adn thought perhaps Tony was following the REVO playbook.

Has anyone done a cost benefit analysis of race gas vs. E85?

race gas = cost of race fuel
E85 = cost of hardware depreciation (fuelling upgrades) + cost of extra E85 consumption

Wonder what’s better. bet it’s a wash.

Gotcha. Yeah, with just one pulley he was not bypassing at all.

Ron, I think he normally uses LC, but track prep was so shitty, he was getting better results without yesterday. They had a two-day no prep event the previous days (for the likes of the Street Outlaw guys). I don’t know for sure, but just looking at the slips he sent me, he seems to be hitting around 1.67 60’ both with and without LC.

So this is the modlist + JHM over-drive pulley? Also I didn’t think guys could buy the APR TCU tune on its own without tuning. Did he convert over to EPL after having APR?

It should also be noted that his dragstrip is not a certified track (not based on what I could see on the website) so it’s tough to say

2012 S4 DSG
EPL Stage 2 E85 Beta ECU tune
APR TCU tune
Upgraded Autotech HPFP
Roc-Euro Intake
18x8 ET 35 Advanti Hybris 19.5 lbs each
Pirelli P6 All season tires (32psi F 35psi R)
4500 RPM launch
Zeitronix Ethanol analyzer was showing E82

Yes, he changed over to EPL so he could run E85 now. I mentioned this before, but he had APR ECU and DSG tunes for a while. I think he did around a 12 flat with the full APR setup on the race gas map, but running a 93/E85 mix. No dual pulley at the time obviously, and I think stock wheels. That was on our NHRA 1/4-mile track. You should see some 1/4-mile times at NHRA tracks in the coming months. We just don’t have many options here…

I don’t think Texas Raceway is NHRA certified, but it’s known as a relatively slow track locally. Not that that means anything.

Welcome, and great handle

The fueling upgrade is only $400 if you buy the Autotech pump upgrade like andthen did. E85 is less than $1.30/gallon here. Race gas is around $10/gallon here (VP 104). You also have to consider you’ll get about 30% better fuel milage on race gas. Using those numbers, you would make up the difference by the time you used 50 gallons of race gas.

50 gallons of race gas= $500
65 gallons of E85 (30% more fuel needed)= $84.50+$400 pump upgrade= $484.50

The bleed is consistent in all gears. Usually kicks in about 5500-6000 RPM.

As far as I can tell I am getting about the same results now with or without LC. I’ve done some 0-60 testing with the P3 gauge and any difference seems to be negligible.

I had bot APR ECU and TCU before, but I can also tell you that a local buddy who is EPL stage 1 just went in and had the APR TCU flashed al la carte. lol

There’s a 1/4 mile event in Sealy, TX at Lonestar Motorsports Park on Jan 16th that I’m planning to get to if I can get a cooling system put in and we get the tune straight. It’s IHRA sanctioned, whatever that means.

so at the track, race gas all the way. daily driver, the alcohol seems to have the edge financially and performance wise. Of course managing fuel quality levels on a tuned car is tough with the ethanols.

p.s. is race gas really $10/gallon? I think we pay like $6 a litre here lol

We have limited access to both E85 and race gas here. There are maybe a dozen places that sell E85 in DFW- which is a pretty large area with 5-6 million people. They do seem pretty evenly spread out, but you probably need to plan ahead if you run full E85 only (especially since you’ll only get 150 or so miles on a tank).

I like what andthen does. He runs a Zeitronics Ethenol analyzer that displays the exact Ethenol content on his P3 gauge. Most places seem to be in the high E70 to high E80 range.

Race gas is near impossible to find except at the tracks. It’s been in the $10/gallon range just about everywhere I’ve been over the past few years. The only other option is buying 5 gallon drums for $50-55 each.

I agree though, for occasional track use, race gas probably makes sense. For daily use, E85 pays for itself pretty quick (unless you’re Ron).

Here’s a link to my post on AZ about today’s 1/4 mile results…

Boo

Grats!

Congrats man! Very very nice time! I told Jran and I think I even posted I thought you’d get the record after seeing your dyno and logs in addition to your 1/8th times. Glad to see you continuing to test the car and major props to EPL for working with you and improving their product! I think you have more in it as well and could probably cut another tenth… From your vid it seems you just roll into the lights… Next time roll into the first light and then stop. Barely let off the brake so the car literally inches forward until the moment you trigger the 2nd yellow and then stop again, you’d be surprised how the few inches helps…

At any rate congrats again on setting the record! Just happy to see many people out there drag racing and pushing the car to it’s limits… Oh and congrats to Tony and EPL! Very nice job and keep up the good work…

I think you meant to say BOOM! LOL

Thanks! We both worked pretty hard to get the car where it is. Seeing what you’ve done has really been very motivating. It really wasn’t about some record. I just want my 4 door to haul ass!

Thanks man! I appreciate that… No doubt your 4 door hauls ass! lol Loved the announcer on the FB page… lol

Wish I could get that DA and I’ll always be curious to see what I would’ve done on E85 since I never got to make a full pass… lol Spring can’t come soon enough ;D

funny how that muscle car with the big burn out making all that noise gets walked.
