Nice attitude…always good to help everyone. When it comes down to it, having the support behind it is worth the money. I just want to see if it can be explained as to why the ECU tune does this to the shifting. There have been several DSG anomalies now that have been triggered or addressed through the ECU, so I’m curious what the story is here. Hope Todd can explain.
I was suprised reading this thread, we had an S5 running the APR Stage 2 tune + pulley that came to our shop after he was disappointed from the low Dyno results.
With the APR kit he made 357whp on a dynapack. After we we installed the GIAC/AWE STAGE 2 kit + DGS software as recommended by GIAC, the car made 436whp in the same Dyno.
All runs performed with 98 Ron fuel filled at the same petrol station.
Road results also showed great improvement APR tune measured 4.1 0-60 and GIAC made 3.8 consistently and a 9.5 60-120 also constantly.
The Dyno was performed at the Israeli APR dealer both times, unfortunately they claim they lost the Dyno results for their initial runs so I can’t upload those for comparison unfortunately.

We don’t really compare dyno chart numbers here. They’re just numbers. Plus you’re comparing a mustang dyno with a dynapack hub dyno no? Or am I missing something?
My biggest concern was/is the requirement for an additional purchase of the DSG tune. I am not too concerned with the WHP numbers, I understand that a DYno Dynamics is a "tough " machine, I also understand that being at 3700ft is no small disadvantage either
Further to the original issues, I have noticed some driveability issues, while cruising at 110-130kmh and in either D or S, the transmission surges 2-300 RPM while using the 91 tune, while using the stock tune this issue is not present.
Todd@AWE has been fantastic, working hard in the background to find out where/what/how and why, but ultimately I have reached a decision
I have contacted the GIAC dealer and asked for a refund under their 30 day money back guarantee. I am not happy with the car, very unhappy with the purchase price and overall not impressed with the gains that were made for over 3k spent
Are you going to keep the car and try the ‘other’ software?
I will be keeping the car, not certain about other software at this point, so far stage 2 has been a big let down.
Sell B8 S4
Buy S6 + software
That’s what you want to do.
True, but realistically I won’t be in the market for an S6 for 2 more years. I will be holding onto the S4.
Sell b8 s4
Buy RS4 + JHM stuff.
Go 10.9 @ 130 on pump.
Don’t think I haven’t considered that as well. A friend that owns a local shop picked up a high km car for less than 20k, would be a good candidate for a stage 2 JHM charger
I just think your experience is the only unfortunate one I heard. I really think you should consider going APR and don’t look back. I must have done 5 highway pulls every commute 100-200 km/h every day for the first month I had it, the st II tune gave me such a hardon. There’s no way APR will force a DSG tune on your car to give you the full blower and timing. I still think Todd will have something to say about it too, but consider that if this was APR, they would have taken care of you. Lol they even bent over backwards for that fucking goofball who fried his ECU (didn’t unplug battery) and later was trying to rip them off by charging APR for a rental when he admitted he simply borrowed his mom’s car.
lol I remember that one. What a doofus.
Hi again
Sorry for the confusing Dyno charts posted earlier, both are for the GIAC tune but on different dynos just so you can see the power curve, like I said I did not get the APR tune Dyno from the shop, they “lost it” somehow but that’s the info I got from the owner and it was corroborated by the local APR dealer (or at least not denied as they do tend to be a little aggressive when you show them better results then they made
Regarding the DSG tune, When APR tested the car, it wouldn’t run past 6100 because the gearbox wouldn’t allow it, we still made almost 50hp more with the GIAC tune in the same RPM but the DSG tune allowed us to take advantage of the full potential of this engine.
Dynos aside, the car was 0.3 seconds faster consistently in 0-60 runs and these measurements were made by the customer not us or the APR dealer.
Avihai.
Did AWE ninja edit their pricing for the pulley? I could have sworn it was like $600 not $900.
While it’s great to see AWE show such great customer service. My question is why does the GIAC stage 2 require programing for the transmission but the APR stage 2 doesn’t?
Avi, nobody believes you are telling us useful information and we have proven time and time again there is nothing to choose from in the latest from APR and GIAC. We all understand what is happening with eyespi is an anomaly but feel he shouldn’t have to pay that much for typical stage II performance. Please run along with your Israeli dyno results
The name is Avihai not Avi and I don’t know why you are being so aggressive towards me when all I did was post my customers results. while I am a GIAC dealer I stand 0 to gain from what I posted here and my only goal was to share some info about the advantages of the GIAC tune vs other tunes and to help people make an educated decision about the tune they decide to go with.
I didn’t want to post the fact that the GIAC stage 1 tune made similar 0-60 numbers without the DSG tune as the APR stage 2 tune but it did, honestly.
Bottom line I believe people should choose the tune based on real life measurements and not by the hype/numbers/PR advertised by various tune vendors. Although I was meant as SME sot of insult,I really liked the YouTube link, one of my favorite movies
Have a good day,
Avihai
Is this hostility an Israeli Armenian thing that I don’t understand? Was there an ancient war there that I missed?
Are you a GIAC dealer? I personally haven’t seen more than a tenth of 1/4 mile ET or 1 mph of 1/4 mile trap speed when comparing similarly modded APR vs GIAC cars. That would indicate to me that there’s less than 10 hp in it either way (and in fact, the APR cars are generally in the lead)
So while your results are interesting, they’re not exactly in line with the real world, unbiased results our membership have shared (acceleration testing at certified 1/4 mile dragstrips, as psychotik pointed out)
Avihai, You’re a GIAC dealer and you think you have nothing to gain by posting your “results”? Really? Most people purchase tunes to make their car faster so if GIAC were proven to do just that don’t you think you could potentially gain sales?
As for the folks on this forum making decisions based on hype/numbers/PR/etc you couldn’t be more wrong… Go to vendorzine if you want that argument to hold some water…
Here are some facts for you… An APR tuned car still holds the fastest race gas 1/4 mile ET, MPH, and best 60ft time… An APR car is also the only one to run an 11.9x pass on pump… This is how we measure performance in the USA/Canada and most other parts of the world… These are all facts from users not APR themselves… GIAC is a great tune don’t get me wrong and they are catching up rapidly but some of your points are ridiculous… Oh and the DSG tune is rather unproven on the B8 cars, no doubt it helps B8.5 cars…
