interesting fact: 2 years in a row, the reigning world #1 golfer has blown up midround and walked off PGA National - Champions.

Rory did it last year, feigning a tooth problem which he later admitted was BS and he just wanted out.

Tiger did it yesterday citing a back injury.

In Tiger’s defence, having played PGA National, he withdrew at the worst possible spot of the course. The 13th green is as far away as any spot on the property from his car. Ideally when you fake an injury to withdraw, you do so within sight of your car so it’s an easy and quick bailout. Not when you’re 2000 yards away. He was probably legitimitely hurt.

Tough venue though. When the wind is up there it’s a nightmare. When it’s down, it’s a cakewalk. 8 under is major championship type scoring.

How they play it off 70 is beyond me. I played it off 72 and thought it was tough. The ball goes nowhere, rolls nowhere, rough is thick as shit, and it’s tight as hell out there with water and villas everywhere. Yet they’re playing 520 yard par 4s and smiling.

A different game.

Donald Trump really did a number on Doral. Leaders at -1 going into the weekend?! :o

its funny I think ray floyd did a reno there 20 years ago and everyone hated it. MAde the course tough as balls and it sucked the fun out of the event. Everyone used to skip it.

Then it was redesigned to make it easy and it became a birdie fest…with Tiger and Phil and everyone in the field. Tournament was a big deal again. Then it got promoted to being a WGC event.

Now it’s back to making Doral impossible when the wind blows. Mark my words…the next few years, guys will skip this event. Then in 2018 they will ease back and make it more fun again.

I played Doral a few years ago and wasn’t impressed. Certainly not worth the 4 or 5 bills + club rental. Looks like they made some significant changes, though.

In any event, I enjoy watching them struggle. Major-like conditions FTW.

Agreed, though humpbacked greens with shaved-looking banks down to ponds may be a bit extreme. Watched a ball hit near the front of a green yesterday, then roll 20+ yards off the back and into the water. Easy enough to address that in the coming years if they choose to…

Just had my clubs re-gripped with “mid-size” grips at the suggestion of the Pro. They feel MUCH better - to the point that I’m sort of amazed that no pro ever suggested it previously. Mind you, my hands aren’t THAT big, but still fall right in the middle of the range that suggests mid-sized grips.

In theory, they’ll lead to less hand action, a slightly later release, and lessening of my draw/hook. Seemed that way on the range, we’ll see if that translates to the course. (If, that is, the courses around here ever open - Still under 2+ feet of snow in most places. :frowning: )

i hate skinny grips. I use Midsize + 3 wraps. New Decade Multi Compound, the new black ones. Colour is so 2010.

Yea, I’m a big fan of the midsize grips. I’ve been using Lamkin full cord midsize grips for a while now. Just feels so much more comfortable. Although I will give you, on the driver it does feel a bit different.

Good point about grip size. I haven’t been thrilled with the ones that came with my Nike irons. Need to head out to Golfsmith to see what else is out there.

“Allergies” as a reason for withdrawing? LOL.

Come on, Bubba. Just be straight with everyone - you withdrew because you shot 83 and have zero chance of making the cut, let alone winning.

P.S. If allergies were a legitimate reason for missing work, I’d be at home 9 months out of the year.

I hate Bubba Watson. I have seen him be an asshole too many times.
