He has led the US open, the British open and the pga after the first round. Didn’t win either of those. Will be interesting to see.
Prediction fail lol. Though DJ really had a helluva round after that first hole.
I’m really happy for Day - he seems like a good guy. I am, however, becoming tired of this extremely low scoring for major championships. 20 under is fine for the John Deere Classic - but it is pretty embarrassing for a major. I like to see these guys struggle in the important tournaments. That’s why I was such a big fan of Chambers Bay - it held its own. Hopefully this gets addressed going forward.
I am pretty amazed at those scores on that course. Guess if the winds are tame so goes that course?
^^ but it’s weird because it seemed like the winds were anything but tame today. The last five holes looked brutal from that standpoint - at least from this lowly amateur’s perspective.
I think the fairways should be narrowed significantly - it’s hard to make the courses any longer. Not sure what else you could do to increase difficulty.
Pretty good to see Day win. Super nice dude. He rented a house form a friend 3 weeks ago when he was here for the Canadian open (which he also won).
He perfectly followed that pattern of a new winner of getting in contention, and blowing it (British) and then next time knowing what to do and keeping his foot down for the win.
The tragic guys like Johnson and Mickelson take exxxxtra long to get over that hurdle for some reason. They need to blow 5 or 6 first.
Also incredible is Jordan fucking Spieth. In the majors he went 1-1-4-2. Best average finish in history for someone who played all 4? Tiger 2000 was= 5-1-1-1 .
Last year everyone made a big stink about Fowler finishing top 5 in all 4. Hopefully the media show similar incredulity of doing so while actually winning two of them. Spieth has turned into a superhero and is comfortably the best player in the world. His last few events going backwards are, from memory
2nd PGA
10th Firestone
4th British (1 shot out if a playoff)
Win John Deere
Win us open
3rd memorial
In 2000 Tiger was 7 strokes off winning all 4 majors outright. (Finished 6 behind Singh at Masters)
In 2004 Phil was 8 strokes off. (3 at US Open, 2 at Open, 3 at PGA)
This year Jordan was 6 strokes off.
Pretty cool. He’s ridicilously likeable too. I like how he constantly uses ‘we’ and credits Greller (and whoever else…his coach etc).

Pretty incredible and I like the nod to his team as well!
Even though I didn’t think he would closed the gap, I loved his efforts and the duel overall with Day. Was pulling for Spieth but Day really played his heart out to win this one!

So, Brandon (and anyone else who wants to join):
Erin Hills on a Saturday and Whistling Straits Sunday?
Haha that would be an epic weekend of golf! At this point, I don’t think either is realistic for me in 2015. Prepping for 3 week trial next month. My life is crazy right now lol.
But I would definitely be open to planning something for next spring.
