So couple things. Firstly, it’s a pretty good swing all in all, nothing goofy or anything that requires a lot of effort to replicate which is very important.
A couple things to think/try though are:
on the backswing around 0:05/0:06 time on the video, where the club is parallel to the ground and the camera can see the sole of the Club, I would say that you are slightly closed. Try to let the club rotate open as you take it back. What we want is for the clubface to be straight up if not ever so slightly open when you are at that point
2)I’d say you’d really beit from stopping the backswing just a little bit earlier. it’ll feel like you’re hitting a 75-80% shot, and that is fine. You’ll probably even loose a little distance at first (possibly), but again, that’s fine. You’ll gain a lot of control and let you feel like everything is tied together smoother.
Realistically, you want the club to stop before it reaches parallel, and it appears you’re going fairly far past parallel. On a regular mid-iron shot, I’d like to see the club stop at 1:30 on a watchface (if 3 o’clock would be parallel)
I think if you do those two things it will really set you up for a better move through the ball for contact.
Finally, it looks like you’re somewhat swinging “around” the ball rather than “through” the ball. You want to feel as through the clubface is “driving through” the ball face at impact vs just “hitting” it. You can often put a small leaf or tee 4-6" out to the front and slightly right of the ball and feel as though your club is going to hit the ball and continue through to go over that object as well.
Try to let the butt of the club start the swing by driving them down and through, thus the butt of the club being the leading force (which means the core will remain behind and coil, vs yours currently being in sync if not the core being slightly ahead). That coil effect from the core of your body remaining slightly behind is what really generate you power in your swing.

Maddog - those are excellent points and certainly something I will work on.
Regarding the club face being closed, that may be why my misses are generally pulls/hooks. On a bad day, my drives duck-hook like no other. We’re talking really bad lol (think Rory on #10 at Augusta when he tanked his final round and lost the green jacket). When I’m on my game (as I was a few weeks ago), my natural swing produces a draw. I really like that and actually depend on it now for aiming purposes and the like. I think this is something I can address immediately on the take-away - I’ll try to open the face up a bit.
It’s funny that you identified the length of my back swing, as that’s something I noticed as well when watching in slo-mo. It probably stems from the fact that I was taught at a young age to go for a really full shoulder extension. Over time, that has probably turned into an exaggerated back swing. I would certainly sacrifice some distance for more control, so I’ll try to work this into my game as well.
And I have been advised before that I need to drive through the ball more than I do now. It’s something that I’ve always found a bit difficult. But I do get the concept, and I like your idea of placing an object to the front and right of the ball during practice.
These are all great tips - glad we have some really good golfers on here. I’ll take all the help I can get!

So David Feherty is out at CBS? That was a dumbass move on their part - sort of like permitting the clown Gary McCord to commentate even after he got the boot from Augusta.
I bet NBC signs Feherty - seems like a natural fit given his contract with the Golf Channel.

TGA MidAm qualifier today. Struck the ball pretty well but scored very poorly even though I had ample opportunity and scrambled for a double on the 9th, but show 74 and made the cut. So I’ll be heading down to Ridgeway CC in Memphis in a couple weeks for the tournament. We’ll see where my game is at then lol.
Fun day though and 6 out of 7 of members from our Club qualified (we have some very good players at our Club as we’ve had 10 of our members play in the State Open both last year and this year).

do you have any pictures/links/graphics to help me better understand this? i hear it all of the time on swing analysis, but most images are blurred at the top of the backswing so it’s difficult to visualize. i’d love to see an example of the same person show an “open” then “neutral” then “closed” club face at the top of their back swing
