TV is definitely better for seeing but attending a major is special. I always recommend Friday. The tournament is developing, nobody has missed the cut yet. It’s great.
I watched dustin Johnson for one hour and learned a great bunker tip. I watched kyle Stanley who was paired with him and learned a couple more things to work on. Then I had my best round going in a month on Tuesday night. Seeing them up close helps my game immeasurably. I could sit and watch them in the range for hours.
I used to do a volunteer job for the tour at can open called walking scorer. Basically u have a headset and a wireless palm pilot and walk with a group all day and track all their stats and shots and score. It’s what feeds the scoreboards and Internet. I love being inside rhr ropes with them. You pick up so much.
Anyway I would always go after my group was done and we had left the scoring trailer and I’d watch the players on the range. Because I was wearing a headset and had credentials I could go just about anywhere and would just walk onto the practice tee. It rocked. I would generally find vijay (around my size) and just stand fifteen feet from him and watch. His tempo is addictive.
Up close and personal. I snuck a couple of videos last year. Here are a couple of screenshots. As you can see access and proximity wise it’s the best job. The only other one inside the ropes that close to them is the poor sucker carrying the scoreboard. That thing turns into a sail once the wind is up. I couldn’t imagine doing it. Although you do get ITR
