GoPro Thread

Great bump. The suction cup. Anyone have a camera fall off at high speeds I would like the idea of some of the the action shots with the camera on the car but I would always worry the camera is going to fall of and break.

I had my GoPro mounted to the top of a buddy’s 68 Camaro for an 1/8th mile event. The mount stayed in tact the entire time through the hard launches and the fastest it went was 145mph, but they weren’t sustained speeds. I just made sure the surfaces were cleaned before mounting.

I plan on using it when i go to quattro de mayo and to get great footage of the mountain runs.

Will a go pro live after a fall off the car.

If it’s in the plastic case, it’ll survive a bunch of torture.

If it isn’t, I think the lens would definitely break on a fall from a car onto the street.

Do you guys have any good video editing software or suggestions?

I have a Hero2 I use for my on board for the race car. I generally cut out a good 1/4 of the video since our pace laps and cool down laps take awhile, plus sitting on grid for 5+ minutes

Which OP system? The MAC comes with a pretty user friendly system on it already. Adobe premier is badass, but takes some time getting used to. Once you do though its above what i used on a older MAC. Granted im talking about a few years ago.

If you just want to shorten the clips and not do too much editing, just use the GoPro Studio software, it’s free. Otherwise, Adobe Premiere is great and it’s really easy to learn and use. You can find tutorials online that are really helpful. It’s also very similar to the Apple Final Cut Pro. A lot of the shortcuts are even the same. Let me know if you need some help getting going.

I have Windows 7, and I had been using AVS Video Editor for shortening my clips. I also do the video editing for our pro team stuff and was kinda looking for something to use to make more professional type videos for that. I think tonight I’ll look into Adobe Premiere

My buddy had one fall off his Golf R. Smashed the lense. BUT because he was using a go pro suction cup and go pro case they gave him like 60% off a new one. Not free but at least it wasnt a TOTAL loss

Just made a shit load of purchases on accessories to prepare for QDM

I bought the ram suction cup. Thanks to a few of you guys who recommended

I also bought this hand held tri pod thing. Thought it would make taking vids easier (when walking around and possible rolling shots).

I also bought 2 more 64gb cards and a branded go pro battery in case these others suck. I will update after quattro de mayo and some use of the items and let you know how they worked out.

return the gopro battery. The aftermarket ones tend to be better

So, it looks like I may be pre-ordering the 3DR Solo drone and buying a GoPro. I’ve been wanting a GoPro for car stuff anyhow, and the 3DR drone just looks so cool and I like the open source/ability to upgrade over the phantom. We’ll see how I like it though, 30 day money back if not.

Anyhow, looking into buying the Hero 4 Silver. Already got a 32GB class 10 micro SD, and got several GoPro accessories in my Amazon Wishlist that I’m interested in.

I was obsessed with the drones for a while. It passed.

Yeah the drone thing looks kickass. You could get some real kickass footage at shows and whatnot. There is a drone called the scout i believe and it has a follow me feature and you can program gps coordinates.

And Saki thanks for the comment on the go pro battery.

Yea, I can imagine it will pass at some point, but I’m excited about the aerial imagery in the meantime and do have some legitimate uses for it with work. I think I’m also going to build a little tri-copter on my own to just get good at flying and for fun.

Yea Eddie, the Solo has Follow me, Orbit, Selfie, and something they made called Cable Cam. The solo is also the first drone to have full gopro integration (can turn on, off, record, power, change settings, etc). It also lets you use different gimbals and cameras which the DJ’s don’t. I’m splitting the cost with a buddy, and then also Gettin a gopro to use for personal sake as well. So it at least a softens the blow lol.

out of curiousity do you have a link?

Overall I’m not happy with my GoPro Hero 3 Black. It only captures about half of the track video I intend to take, and then the files are chopped into 2GB segments because it has a crappy 32 bit file system. The battery life is awful, too, and requires a lot of management/power down to last the whole day.

I might try this:

Here is mine falling of an r8, still works to this day. The mount was a little scuffed: falls off after first lap post turn 2.
