GoPro Thread

man that thing can take a beating! i was waiting for it to fall from the sky after hitting the third or fourth building. impressive.

I have seen a few guys who fly them into the stratosphere (well…2500 feet up anyway) only to run out of battery and have them free fall to earth. They’re always fine. I think they’re made of lint.

Try the Ram mounts they don’t come off…

Was that video with an external mic? still hear a lot of wind noise so if it was where was it mounted?

it was mounted on the roof from the looks of it. Hence the noise and the getting ripped off at speed.

RAM mounts…those good? I have 2 dSLRs, one large full fram Canon 1 series, and one prosumer sized T2i. I wonder if they can hold the prosumer sized camera + a fast lens…

I love mine. I have both the GoPro mount and the Ram mount and I find the Ram mount to be far more sturdy and maneuverable/flexible. Here’s a video comparison:

Yeah I know the camera is mounted up top. I was curious as to whether he used an external mic and where it was mounted…

haha I guess I should’ve figured out that you could see the video

I would guess regular gopro mic. You can’t see any flailing microphone wires when it goes flying off at 120 mph.

In the R8 video I had the GoPro Mix i didn’t use the external lavaliere (spelling?) mic with the foam. Ill upload a few examples after this weekend of the new mic set up, soooo much better.

Look under my videos, one of the snow ones has some slow mow…

good demo of the AudioTechnica ATR3350 ($20) microphone

Car sounds like shit, but that’s not the mic’s fault lol

My favourite mic position is the rear bumper…

fixed

Hahaha… I’m good with it as long as Im the one who’s doing the “entering”! ;D

Well this thread took an unexpected turn!

Cool use for a GoPro…

Neat

Should have

  1. shot wider
  2. run it at normal speed as he approached. Would be cool to get an idea of how fast he is moving.

Made a couple of videos with the external microphone. It works fantastically well. I’m kinda shocked it’s $22.

Here’s one with the microphone under the hood, taped to the intake.

Funny how different the downshifts sound. Almost no sound, just the mechanical whir and a little burp.

Here’s one with the microphone taped to the bumper dead centre. Sounds pretty fucking fantastic. No wind noise, no problems. Lots of bass, lots of great sound and no real bad distortion.

Thanks for the link but OOS :frowning: free shipping too

Edit : just got one from the go pro site also for free ship

Sorry for the delay in posting the video. I seem to be having issues posting .avi files on Youtube? The attached (really shitty quality video) is a compressed MP4 format.

Ps. stock everything with mic taped to the back bumper

Holy smokes that also sounds great. V8 FTW! (Esp in light of the news that the new M3/4 is turbo’d 6 cyl IIRC?)

it’s funny, I recognizse the pitch of your engine when it is where mine redlines (8000-8200)…and then yours keeps going to an even higher pitch. It’s pretty funny.

I always remember driving the RS4 for the first time a few years back while I still owned a B7 S4…it was SO HARD to allow yourself to get to 8000 RPMs. I was always shifting at 6500-6700 which is where my B7 S4 was optimally shifted in 3rd and fourth.

Count Vohn was laughing at me when we raced beemercer and I was shifting before 7000 in the RS4. “What are you doing? Trying to lose?”

He was unimpressed lol

Bear, is your car SMG or whatever BMW calls it? I can’t remember and the shifts sound nice and quick. If not, good work!
