Intro / Kind of a build thread

Ever had a night working on the car and you sit there going ??? ???

My replacement starter finally came in so I went up to my shop. Got the car up in the air, looked at everything. Got all the bolts out of the starter so its loose and ready to plop out. Pulled the bolts out of the motor mount bracket. Used my jack to push up a bit on the engine to try and manuver the mount out.

This is where I got stuck, I can’t move the motor mount. If I push up on the motor with the jack, I just lift the car up. I guess this is the downside to have all solid track denisty mounts?

Will I need to remove the snub and loosen the trans mount to get my starter out?

Also, how the fuck do you unclip the wire to the starter. I hate clips on our cars >:(

Needless to say, I drove my truck to work today. And as all frustrating nights can be like, my truck wouldn’t start at first. Lovely diesel. My father is suppose to go out and start the truck and let it warm up at least once a week but he hasnt done that in a couple weeks. I think its time to bust out the extension cord. Then after it warmed up, it was 2 quarts low on oil.

But hey I can’t be too mad, gas prices are down. Paid 2.69 for 93!

If you’re talking about that little white clip, it’s a bitch. Maybe someone will chime in and have a more appropriate way of removing it than just force.

I think its black, its some type of electrical connector. I can’t really see it but I can feel it when I reach up to push the clip off.

With my finger, I can feel part of the connector where you would press to release slide forward and backward. Maybe it got broken when my buddies shop installed my new motor mounts and clutch? It would explain why it wont release from the starter

Think I can make this work in my s4? Lol

Just picked up a new lajoie seat for my race car. The thought of putting in the s4 DID cross my mind

Here’s a little info about the SCCA racing I do since there was a tiny bit of interest in MDUBZ thread

I race spec miata, where everyone cheats and everyone knows we do

This is the car after I just finished painting it. It went from blue to white, to more blue with some red in less than a week. I’ve got more pictures of the whole painting process if anyone wants to see

I am rebuilding the entire car right now, new shocks, bushings, building a new motor right now, rewiring a lot of it and putting in a new data system.

I race a lot of Mid Ohio, Nelson Ledges, PIRC, Watkins Glen. Hopefully I can do more traveling this year but my schedule to crew in Trans Am will mostlikely limit that.

Sounds fun and that’s hilarious. The top 6 drivers all dropped for cheating and 7th place made 1st lol.

Link didnt work, try this

Heres on board from one of my races last year. This is what happens when you waste a qualifying session. Makes alot of work to get passed everyone

Also, here is on board from our Trans Am car last year at Mid Ohio. We had power steering pump issues and were rushing to get it fixed before qualifying. We ended up just bypassing the pump just so Aaron could get a qualifying lap in. He ended up 9th of 25 cars after only running 1 lap. These cars are absolute pigs without power steering. lol

It was actually 9 of 10 protested cars were DQ’d LOL yeah its been a freaking mess trying to sort out rules. Everyone has something to bitch about with the rules so its been hard to get rules sorted for 2015

Nice looking Miata. Thanks for the pic. Maybe we’ll meet up at the Cincy Regional at Mid-Ohio in early August. I’m radio tech for Cincinnati Region.

Now that you mention it… I think I remember seeing an Audi with a license plate saying “QIKRNU” at Mid Ohio before.

I should be there for the Cincy regional. Im usually at all Mid Ohio SCCA races either racing or doing tire service for Stupid Fast Tires. If you plan on coming to any other of the races, remind me and Ill bring the S4 down

Yup. That was my Avant.

Awesome, def have to stop by and say hi next time we are both at Mid Ohio

Justin did you ever test muffler placement/ x pipe placement?

We did mess around with different X locations and CV had tested different X types and there effects on power band and tq changes. What are you looking for.

I’m going to be rebuilding my exhaust soon to get rid of the aluminized steel and h pipe. I had remembered a few years back Turner Racing had messed with their x pipe and muffler location and had found different gain/losses. I know we did about 15 variations on my miata exhaust and spent all day on a dyno testing. I don’t particularly feel like doing that with my s4 since its alot more work than just cutting and welding a single mufffler and pipe on a miata.

Is CV’s info on the site? Ill do some searching in the morning for it but I would love to see what gains/losses there was with location and styles of x’s

He is Count Vohn. I made a big exhaust post from information ingot from him and all the time spent with him at roush racing. I was lucky enough to get a real crash corse in exhaust and exhaust testing. There is good power to be made. You just have to kinda decide what range you want the top results to be at.

I’ve been reading your exhaust 101 thread, will be reading your downpipe threads later. I think I am going to use a parallel x pipe. I saw a thread you had posted saying the parallel is good for driving and tq, a splayed isnt as good down low but good up top. I am still not sure what I want to do past the x pipe yet. I want to make a little amount of bends as possible but unsure what mufflers to get for it

A link to the above mentioned threads would be appreciated. Thanks.

His DP testing links are in here as well

Exhaust 101

Just made a master post with all this information here.
