I want to know more about what happened before I start posting about it online. What broke still hasn’t been removed from the vehicle as of now so I don’t even have pictures.
you just posted about it online. Too late.
I know what broke but I’m not sure if the blame can be directed to anyone or anything. I won’t say b/c Zero is local.
if it was a turbo that broke that would be interesting
otherwise, who gives a shit. It’s a 13 yera old B5 and shit breaks all the time.
If the exhaust manifold broke, and it was aftermarket, that wouldn’t be a shock. Apparently some of the exhaust manifolds that are out there haven’t been having much luck. VAST namely.
The part that broke was brand new. It had 965 miles on it.
Since you know, Jupiter - very interesting, huh? I’m guessing Gabe told you? I’m confident I know exactly what the problem was but I don’t really want to open up a huge can of worms for somebody over a few thousand dollars.
You have to be kidding me. You guys are having a pretend private conversation about a part here on a forum…?
Was it your clutch? It has been so long I have no idea any more.
[quote]Well! I got up to 960 miles before I can’t drive it anymore. I went to shift into third and the clutch just stayed on the floor. I lifted it up with my foot but as soon as I touch it, it just drops to the floor. Probably not a major issue but certainly inconvenient. I haven’t been stuck in the road since I was a kid. AAA is on the way.

Drivers side seat heater?
Seriously, enough smoke and mirrors!
Zero, it really isn’t a big deal and you wouldn’t be causing a shit storm. Just keep it here… if anything you’re the only one that can be held responsible. Shit happens.
I can see I received a pm but for some reason can’t reply with this new tapatalk version.
I
At this point. We still don’t know, but we speculate that one of the turbos might have been damaged. Not sure if it was an install or build error. Keep in mind this turbo wasn’t done at JHM it was one of the few Prototype RS6-R T turbos. It was assembled at a local shop with the larger components.
Install wise the last shop that had Zero’s car messed up several things that J-spec has had to fix. When I say a few things, I mean pages of things, including welding the oil line on the turbo or part in question. There have been so many issues that J-spec has considered doing a motor pull and just doing a once over, as so many things have been wrong broken or a issue. Failure wise, No proof yet nothing concrete, still don’t even know if it is the turbo or something else but we want to make sure we are on top of this.
The turbo was a test turbo and the company that sold Zero the turbo (JHM BETA set. All new parts just needed assembly and balancing ) has said they will inspect and rebuild the turbo at no cost if that is the issue. Keep in mind this was almost a year ago these parts were sent out. In the meantime JHM has sent out a set of genuine RS6-R turbos.
JHM has currently 3 turbos
1 in production for over 2 years. The RS6-R
Two in testing
1 The RS6-R Terminator
2 The Ko5-R
^^ Oh man sorry to hear about ZeroT’s woes at this point At least his car has ended up at a good shop and it sounds like things are being rectified.
It looks like both turbos are damaged. On one, the compressor wheel has etched into its surrounding metal, touching it and the other - while not as bad - is also mispositioned. It only took a single 30lb 3rd gear pull to redline to make this happen. However, the turbos seem to have been experimental, so… I guess this was a possibility. I don’t really mind being a guinea pig.
The first shop did kind of a shoddy job. Not terrible, but not great either. I’m very thankful that a reputable shop did the engine rebuild and valve job. Everything else, J-Spec can touch on and perfect. I don’t think it’ll be long before the car is ready to be logged again - this time with regular, production JHM RS6-Rs - and I feel pretty good about that.
Honestly, I always had a funny feeling about the first set of turbos.
Onward and upward.
K05-R, huh? Hmm. Interesting.
Your guinea pig status is pushing one year, good thing you’re cool with it. Good call to make it known, it’s always good to get CV’s thoughts as well! I might swing by on Thursday.

Yup, 10 1/2 months now. I was almost there.
Let me know what time you’ll be around on Thursday. I’ll meet you at J-Spec and you can get a close look at those RS6-Xs, er, RS6-Rs. Just kidding, of course.
what a fucking bummer. Thankfully it looks like JHM will step up and look after you because it sounds like wherever you got these turbos from was telling you they were 100% RS6r real deal JHM signed off turbos…when they were the early ones pre-revisions. It also sounds like maybe they were not clocked and tested at JHM, and were done somewhere else…by someone who is not JHM. The RS6r turbos are all clocked and test-fitted in California before going to customers. The tester turbos that were basically given to people sound like they have been used then sold then re-sold. Always room for trouble.
Keep the thread up to date as things progress.
I’ll keep everyone up to date. I had originally filled out a contact form asking how long it would take for delivery on a GT28RS kit but I was supposed to get something better. That didn’t work out but what can ya do? I think the guy was honestly trying to make me happy so no big deal.
Zero has been through hell. Thought I would pop in here and help Zero out. Ive spoken with him several times and he is a true trooper. His situation is definitely not normal, and given this didn’t go through JHM its been a odd ride. Seems like now he is on the right path and everything should be worked out soon.
From what I know, Zero looked for a GT kit and the vender he talked to had sold several sets of the RS6-R turbos and was well aware of what they were able to do. Knowing that Zero might not be happy with a GT kit the vender offered up RS6-R turbos, knowing that Zero was originally looking for GT power the vender offered up the idea of the RS6-R T(terminator) this turbo has a bigger comp wheel with better specs.
The vender was sent the parts to be able to upgrade a set of RS6-R turbos to the RS6-R T. Zero was told BY the vender to not post or talk about the turbos. As they were no longer RS6-R turbos and they were not from JHM. While they are components of the RS6-R T turbo JHM didn’t build this unit and JHM was hand selecting the costumers who got them. Wanting the best for Zero his vender wanted to get him a set of the RS6-R T turbos but the turbo work had to be done by him as JHM wasn’t going to send out any more turbos for testing. Since this turbo didn’t come from JHM and the vender was told to not say its a JHM unit zero had several threads and wasn’t quite sure of what to say.
Since all the other JHM in house RS6-R T turbos have had no issues JHM demanded that the original vender offered to rebuild the units or make sure this was sorted out. That is between Zero and the Vender. At this time JHM sent Zero out a set of RS6-R turbos and is working with J-spec to make sure Zero’s car is up and running ASAP.
Damn man. Good for you having a roll with it attitude. Makes me think twice about putting a dime more into my 2.7’s. Also appreciate having jhm nearby to have performed my turbo swap. Keep on keepin on…
Instead I am glutton for even more punishment and picking up an almost 20yr old urs4 that I certainly will be unable to leave alone. Go figure
Hey. Maybe when all is said and done I can have a legitimate pair of “terminators” as a backup or future upgrade. If that’s the case than I’d have only lost some time.
What’s the advantage of the Terminators over the production RS6-R version?

The largest compressor wheel that can fit.
