JBones's Silver Bullet B6 S4

Jimmy, is the last picture a vacuum line going down to the front? If that is what it is, I would think you’d just be tapping in at the manifold where the JHM kit uses.

Just couldn’t quite figure out what the last picture was showing.

Either way, that kit is pretty cool. Definitely nicer than just a boost gauge.

Yeah, that’s where I tapped mine (black hose between the orange circle and metal pipe):

The vacuum line is run to a nipple on the front of the intake manifold that is normally capped off. When I got my intake manifold back from JHM the end of the cap was torn off. So it was easier to just take the new vacuum cap that I had put on there off and run the vacuum line to that nipple. Here is a picture of where it goes:

Cool, didn’t even know about that nipple!

I probably would have ran there if it was just a cap to not mess with a t-pipe and everything else.

So when is it looking to get a tune update?

I got my car back from STE last week with their Performance Parameters Display unit. It is a very clean gauge system that shows a lot of readings from the can bus system and information sent straight to the instrument cluster. Earlier this year Axel started a thread for the B7 kit but STE had not gotten a B6 to play with until mine. There are a few different things from the B7s to the B6s like the pin assignments of the connectors.

The big thing that I like about this system is that it shows oil temperature.

Since I am JHM supercharged I hooked up a vacuum line to the unit so that I can see boost pressure when I get on it. During one of the timed runs that we did from 60 mph to 90 mph I saw 6.2 PSI at 6.9K rpms with the boost recall feature. Here is a picture with the engine sitting at idle:

As I said before, the install in very clean. With the PPD unit mounting behind the lower shelf.

Along with in the engine compartment once I put the covers back on.

The unit in my car shows boost pressure/vacuum, air fuel ratio, oil temperature, coolant temperature, intake air temperature, battery voltage, timed runs (0-60, 60-90, and 60-130 I think), vehicle speed, injector duty cycle, mass air flow reading (grams per second), and load.

The intake air temperature will be very helpful for when I go to the drag strip and am sitting in the staging lanes. It is cool to watch the intake air temperature reading change from driving down the highway to sitting in traffic and back. It gets down to ambient air temperature after a minute or two of driving but damn that thing can sky rocket when I am sitting in traffic for even short periods of time because these V8s run hot! Also the speedometer is a bit optimistic. I have different tires than stock but I have noticed it is 3-4 mph off up to about 40 mph and then from 5-6 mph off when above 40 mph.

They added a MAF read out? Damn! Wish I had that

As for your tune, yeah, I had the old tune as well when I first got the sc. It was a “test” tune so to speak. Then last November, I met up with JHM and Jay swapped me to flash and got their final tune. World of a difference.

I didn’t either until I was about to install the manifold and saw it.

Monday next week I am shipping in my S4’s ECU to be converted back to stock and then I will flash it with the cable to the updated version once I get it back.

My mother’s B6 A4 3.0 ECU is going in at the same time for a tune since her valve stem seals have started to fry the cats. Downpipes with high flow cats are also in the future too but first I need to fix the oil burning. Damn 3.0s, I just put a new torque converter in it last week along with changing the trans fluid/filter, replacing the trans output shaft seal, and replacing both front inner CV boots! Plus I still need to address some smaller maintenance items too.

I went back to the drag strip tonight and made some more passes. This time I went early enough that I got to make some passes before it got busy. Again I was car #3482 so I asked and they told me that the number is not in order but off their system.

Here are the slips:

This is the best video that I got with the gopro. It was the last run of the night. Man I need a better 1-2 shift.

Your 1-2 sounded a little slippy but that’s not going to knock 7-10 tenths and 7-9 mph off. Something doesn’t add up.

Wonder what’s up. What kind of rpm per second are you seeing in a third gear rip from 2000-7000? Would like to see a log of groups 003-020-021.

Did you not recently get the tune updated? You should have launch assist with it.

If there is any problem it isn’t the big end. Your 1/8 et and mph are right where they should be for 13.0 @ 107 or so. It’s like the car is setup to run perfectly at this pace.

Jimmy are you doing any logging at all? I would start if you haven’t.

Saki, I have never done that test before but when I get time during the week I will try it.

Yes I got the updated file but JHM never put LA in the SC tunes because it limits how much power you can make out of the hole. I tried it, then asked, and that is what they told me. Jason recommended leaving on the upswing of the rpms around 5k rpms. In that video it looks like I left around 3k to 3.5k rpms. Need to try it a few times because I have always worried about breaking stuff from leaving that high in the rpms.

They don’t really let people go around the water box too much. I have the video of my fourth run where the guy asks me to spin the wheels a little bit to get the rocks off. I did it and then I ran my worst time so F that next time. The DA during my third pass was like -800+. Next Friday should be even better since the temperatures are supposed to be about ten degrees colder.

Will do Euro.

Your launches are great buddy…it is the rest of the run that should be better.
