Keep it up Jimmy, good to see someone is still carrying the torch!
One final question. Do you need to remove the crossmember or can you slip the back ends of the subframe over once it’s unbolted? Thanks again for all your help, I’m psyched to see how your headers and everything else turns out.

Thanks man. I will be going to H20 this year with this car.

I just removed the crossmember to make it easier. The headers are coming along now that I have stopped blowing holes in tubing. :
Blowing holes in tubing really blows!!
Love it!
What did you use for painting your valve covers, engine paint or powder coat? Have to install my intake spacers and replace the gaskets, so I figure why not paint the covers too…

Sorry if I have missed it, but I don’t recall - what wall thickness and what material? 304?
Biker921, I used high temp gloss black paint. We shall see how long it lasts and if it starts to flake or melt then I will get them powdercoated.
SquiddlyB6S4, it is 16 gauge 304 stainless. My first revisions had some big gaps when fitting the pipes together so I made a lot of the gaps bigger and blew a hole threw a few pieces. It is all in the name of getting everything set correctly; like amperage, gas flow, rod/tungsten size, etc. I expected this which is why I got extra pipes.
Updates???
Updates???
Got my bandsaw. But no pictures of the headers yet.
Updates:
Hurricane Sandy was a bunch of rain for me and I hope for everyone else on here that they were as lucky. It was actually better than a storm that came through a few weeks ago that brought down a tree limb on top of my car.

That limb slightly pushed in the roof but once I pulled it off then the roof popped back out and the water stopped going inside through the sunroof.
Here are a few shots of my headers. The first shot is the fourth revision on my toolbox/table/junk-holder.

Then we have that revised section with the missing tube tack welded in then installed on the engine.

Does that look tight at all? I had to clearance the engine mount bracket to get enough room. Everything slides right in place now and bolts right up otherwise. Plus so far I have not had to remove the engine yet.

Last, the back of the engine shot with the tubes. Don’t mind the oil because that will be cleaned off at some point.

Not anywhere near done but working on it. Hope this will satisfy for a little while.
Ouch… Glad to hear the car wasn’t too bad, but still sad to see. Also it is good to see the headers coming along. Keep up the good work!!
Great update! Keep 'em coming JBones, this site doesn’t lack much, but a good build thread like this one is rare.
Wow man great work!! where you located at?
Thanks guys. More is to come and it is getting colder outside.
I am located just outside Washington DC.
Just outside DC? Where? I have family in PG county and am there a couple of times a year…
Over the Wilson bridge in Fairfax. It is easier to get here now that they put in the thru lanes on 495 to avoid all the local traffic.
Hell id drive up to ride in this beast or see it run in richmond
Update:
I have been working on my car some more after warping the original flanges that I was using. Here are a few shots of the flanges and my attempts at making new ones.

Starting from the top:
This is the original flanges that I was using until I warped one. Notice the rust? Carbon steel doesn’t like the moisture in the air.
My first attempt playing with the new plasma cutter.
Second attempt.
The almost finished product.
I finally found someone with a waterjet machine and their labor is cheap as hell. They do a pretty good job too. Here look:
