JBones's Silver Bullet B6 S4

Just saw the jbones on top of the shifter that’s a great touch! When’s the next track event drag and road race?

Thanks man!

Will do. I will likely get some gopro video once I can get up to the dragstrip again.

Yeah, I have had that shift knob for a little while now. I like it a lot and since it is Delrin, it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Saying when I am going to the dragstrip is not a good idea. Instead it is better to just go run a great time and then post about it the following day. Saki has said that before in his 1/4 mile advice and I agree with him. Not sure about the next road course event because there may be some over the summer that I want to go to. I really want to go to the one in Daytona Florida but that isn’t until the beginning of December. Plus if I go down there then it is only a hour and a half from my parents place to Palm Beach International Raceway. It would be interesting to run my S4 down there as well since PBIR is such a fast track.

Update:

I got my car back from the body shop. Here is a picture before the car went back to the body shop with the interior put back in it to be buffed. I had to take the winter wheels and tires off to put on my summer wheels and tires back on because it had warmed up a bit

Waited a month and then got some other work done to the S4. I got it corner balanced, a four wheel tire alignment done, and detailed along with getting everything coated with ceramic pro sealant. The car looks so good that I found this note under my wiper when I came out of the gym. There was another note on my car when I went to breakfast the following week. Later that day when I went to the movies with a friend of mine, a dude in a S5 coupe pulled up next to us and commented on the car rather than the girl that was with me. I told her about all the notes/attention and she was laughing herself to death. Of course then I had to ask her if this is what it is like to be her every day and she was like yes.

Today, I did a good amount of work to the car. I had driven 554 miles after doing the timing service so it was time to do some maintenance. Replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter. Didn’t take pictures of that but I did take pictures of the oil and filter change. I wanted to check the oil so I took a sample with my fluid pump for Blackstone Laboratories to take a look at.

Saki had asked about trying to use my oil extractor machine on a B6/7 S4 or RS4 so I thought that I should try it on my car after filling the oil sample bottle.

The metered portion of the tool showed that it had around 1.5 gallons of oil in it already. After sucking out as much oil as possible the oil level only moved to between 2.25 gallons to 2.5 gallons.

So I pulled the drain plug and about 5 quarts came out of the bottom. Just for comparison, the bottle on the right is filled with oil from draining out of the bottom of the engine and the bottle on the left is a fresh new 5 quart engine oil container. The lines are almost perfectly level. Looks like I only got around 9 quarts of engine oil out of the engine today. That is about how much it took to fill back up too. Before when I installed my oil temperature sensor for the Zada-Tech gauge unit I wanted to make it easy to disconnect the wiring to get the oil filter out and it really is worth the time spent up front because it is very easy to change the oil filter now.

One thing that has been bothering me was I powered the Zada-tech gauge off the fuel pump fuse. That was done as a quick move to get the car to the body shop. So I spent some time finding a different fuse to power the gauge unit off of. It just so happened to be 15 amp fuse for the reverse lights, mirrors, etc.

Next, I swapped out my front ashtray for a B7 front ashtray. As stupid as that sounds there is a reason for it. I had installed a B7 center console for the cup holders a long time ago but that got rid of the cigarette lighter so I needed the B7 front ashtray to get a cigarette lighter back to put in a phone charger. Also installed my 4 inch shifter knob extension. That shifter knob extension is a hilarious mod. I can row through gears stupidly easily and it is totally ridiculous to have the shifter go up that high - I love it! Plus now I can use my center armrest again.

Finally, I had installed my flat bottom steering wheel before the car went off to be detailed. After putting 500+ miles on the car with the flat bottom steering wheel, I can say that mod was well worth the money. It didn’t cost much compared to the other flat bottom options out there. My knees clear the bottom of the steering wheel easily and the thickness of the steering wheel is perfect.

Great write-up, Jimmy. As always, lots of good info here. And I do love the shifter

In for videos.

any thoughts about coming up to midohio in july for audifest?

I will look into it. That is during the middle of my vacation so it would work time wise but it is far away from me distance wise.

Have you been there before? How are the instructors? Is it worth the time and money?

I have not run with that group before so I cannot say how the instructors are. I have heard good things for a few people.

As far as midohio goes, I only live an hour from there so i usually run there 4-5 times a year in the miata. I love the track, plus theres a couple pretty good steak houses near by

I think drob went there last year with his car, I cant find the links but I could have swore you get a good amount of track time. If you plan on going, I would come down to watch and hang out. I dont think I have enough time to get my car done and ready for tracking by then
