**JHM 3 Liter Build**

Its painfull reading ON AZ. While you don’t like to see the back&forth its good to see someone sticking it to the negitive comments. The funny thing is the 1.8T guys come in bash then act all WOOOOOH… why are you reacting so harsh.

If You ask me. Both clint and the vinny guy need to grow up. I trully believe that the more sucuessfull these 1.8T guys believe themselves to be the more there going to be super Pro 1.8T and chip away at the advancment of anything but… Thats how I see it.

Still great to have you on here and you make the first big step for these 3.0 guys motorsports916. Being a Audi tech for 33years the 3.0 motor was one on its own. Its going to be a difficult motor to get power out of In my opinion but its great to see that JHM has taken on the challenge and Im eager to see where this can go from here

^WOW 33 years!?! Almost as long as they’ve been in the states :o

dropping by guys reading all this good news gets me excited. i tried fellas but these guy on the zine are ignorant. no point. i’m glad this can be our haven to just talk 3.0 without the “experts” coming in. ANYWHO what is all this talk about a blower. i just passed on some ROTI’S so dont let me down JHM. lol. j/p

Yeah, concave Roti’s are not easy to pass up!!! The new series look sooo damn sexy!!!

Can’t wait to see where things are going with the 3.0

Thanks JHM, Keaton, and those who first got serious about this lending cars, time, and knowledge! All of these things are the perfect ingredients for results!!!

honestly the more 3.0 guys that are here the better it is for the 3.0 guys. This site is filled with lots of guys that know what there doing and are excited about seeing the Audi N/a class of cars get off the ground.

These threads will advance further and faster. The fact that JHM has some presents here is only better for the development and communication with them during the development.

Thank you guys for all of your support thus far. I was just doing a little thinking about all of the 1.8t vs 3.0 back and forth and was wondering if you guys would like to see some pulls between the two. I drive a 2004 A4 Avant, 1.8t and it’s got everything short of a BT. I have an APR tune with the big injector file, a 3 inch downpipe (no cat) and an APR cat-back exhaust. That would make it stage ii+, I believe… Anyway, the more I drive motorsports’ car, the more I feel like this will be a good race.

If you guys are into it (I’ve already cleared it with motorsports916), I think we’re going to do a few pulls of my stage ii+ 1.8t vs the 3.0 stock and then with our early revision of the tune. We’ll see what happens…

Yes. I would love to see that!

Yes, I would love to see that also.

I think I can speak for everyone here when I say “Heck yeah lets see that!” ;D

I honestly could care less about it being 1.8t vs 3.0
I know thats what came of it but I simply want to see the improvements that can be made with the 3.0 period! 8)

Well said sir!

i honestly dont care about the 1.8 guys. because i know that in JHM’s hands we will be faster then most of them. honestly i can count the number of people on the zine who have a “quick” a4 1.8t. my expectations are honestly for it to drive as fast or if not faster then an m3 e46. i love the way that engine feels torquey and meaty. if its anything close to that i will honestly be happy. that might be alot to ask for but i think its attainable. but once again we can speculate all we want at the end of the day we have to be as patient as possible and let these guys do what they do best.

Hey Guys -

I hope you’re all having a good Fourth. We had a super busy week with the 3 liter and it’s taken me a few days off to recover from all the tuning, logging, and tuning and logging. I did want to keep you guys updated about what we’ve done so far though.

As you can see from the video posted in the head to head thread, the JHM tune on motorsports916’s car has made some noticeable power gains over stock. In addition to that, the car that our calibrator has picked up was finally delivered and his car has seen the benefits of the tune as well.

We’ve learned a few things hardware wise too:

  • COILPACKS: In order to get the most power out of this car you’ll need to make sure that your coilpacks are updated to the latest Audi revision (done for free at your dealer). Our tune makes a lot more torque over the stock tune by using the ignition system much more effectively. Along the same lines, you’ll want to make sure you’re at least running the OEM specified spark plug, if not something better. We’re still trying to find out whether or not plugs we run on the 4.2s will be a good match for the 3.0.

  • CATALYTIC CONVERTERS: I know a lot of you have already come to this conclusion, but we’ve found that the cats on this exhaust system are a major limiting factor. Due to the fact that we’re flowing a lot more air with this new tune the stock cats heat up a lot faster and starts to hamper the car’s performance. However, we’re building our tune so it will adapt UP. Motorsports916’s car still has the cats on and it is definitely moving out faster than stock. However, we’re confident that once we upgrade his exhaust system by either gutting the cats from his stock pipes or fabricating new downpipes, his car will perform that much better from the upgrade. This will be the same for anyone with a stock exhaust system: you’ll see solid gains with our tune on stock exhaust and then once you begin to upgrade, the tune will be able to grow with you.

  • AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS: Finally, those of you with automatic transmissions will want to seriously consider getting our transmission tune when you purchase the ECU tune. We were able to make solid power without a TCU tune but once we added the TCU tuning to the ECU tuning it really allowed us to use the new found power better. The TCU tune basically allows us to open up the torque converter a little bit more. This puts the power to the transmission and then to the ground sooner in the RPM band. Additionally, the things Kurt can do to the up-shifts on the Tiptronic Transmission Tuning is just awesome. The car is snappy. The shifts are noticeably faster making the car a lot more fun.

Overall, we’re not satisfied with where the tune is at right now as a final product. Even though we’ve seen solid gains, we still believe that we can do more. That being said, we feel like version 8 as we have it right now is solid enough to put in on a few cars as a “3 Liter Beta Tune”. This will enable us to get some feedback from you guys and allow us to continue making progress on the tune while implementing user suggestions as needed.

Thanks for “tuning” in. We’ll continue to keep you posted! Thanks for the support, audirevolution.net.

so, any plans for a LWFW for us 6MT guys?

Thanks for the update. It’s very exciting to hear things are going well.

I believe JHM said they were looking into a lightweight flywheel for the manual guys.

How difficult is it to remove the downpipes on the 3.0? Is it feasible for the casual backyard mechanic?

Its getting cut this Thursday. Big issues with the 3.0 flywheel. Its not something that we can just adapt from another platform. The 3.0 has its own flywheel and thus JHM needs to tool up just for that. Not sure cost wise but I don’t see it being more then 100$ more then a stock one if you were to replace it.

I plan on seeing how the aftermarket JHM Dp’s fit on my car so Ill do a thuro walk threw and step by step DYS video and post thread on it. After all the swear words are out the window and I find the best way to do it ill post it.

THANKS FOR THE UPDATE DUDE! IT ALL SOUNDS GREAT!

I might be interested in doing this Beta tune, who could I talk to so that I could get some more information about it???

Also I am almost positive there is a aluminum flywheel available for our cars because I just put a transmission and new clutch, flywheel, nuts, bolts, the whole nine yards in my 6 speed tranny. And I remember there being one available because I debated long and hard on getting one but at the time but decided to continued\ to keep it stock. I will look for it and post it if I can. Also I remember the reason I didn’t get it because it was single mass and stock is dual mass and I was told it would not be as smooth with the single mass and I didn’t like the thought of that. Or maybe i’m missing something here?

I have a ecu just begging for JHM to get their hands on it. So is this available or do we still have wait through the final steps?

Also is there a price on the tune? Any questions hit me up Keaton, I’ll be wating for it

I read that the 2.7t flywheel and clutch is the same as the 3.0. Is this correct?

such good news!!!

i cant wait to feel the difference in person. i for sure want to see what happens with the dp’s.

almost a month without my car is like pulling teeth. esp knowing that its getting faster and more fun to drive.

thanks to all the boys at JHM for all you’re hard work for the 3.0! cant wait to see more!

I had kinda thought so since many 3.0’s use the 01E Trans, so I thought it might use the same clutch/flywheel setup as the B5 S4’s

altho Count says that it’s got its own flywheel, so I’m excited to see what they can do with it and what the differences there are from the FW’s on other cars with the 01E trans
