I’m really looking forward to doing it myself. Since I steered away from the hotrod shop I get cravings to build something. I also know very little about this car and there’s no better way to learn than doing things yourself. I also like having Noone to blame but myself if there’s a problem.
Rock, you have to make that women work for a bigger rock. You should start small and incentivize her with a bigger ring as the years go on (5yrs, 10yrs).
I know the price isn’t bad, I think I have mentioned that to you before :o
My statement about $12k was including the supporting mods I consider required and like I said I could easily place the order now, but we will probably buy another house in PA in the next year so my priorities are in other places. I think the tune/exhaust I plan to buy in the next few months will hold me over for a while though.
I’m in custom fab as my regular “9 to 5” I also do some contracting and structural welding whenever needed. I do ok. I was just tossin a little jab at euro with that comment. I don’t like when ppl assume I’m some rich kid or whatever is all.
I want for someone to come in hear and try to claim that they can make “God” look like some cheap chump haha. That would be a fun dick measuring contest.
I wasn’t assuming you were a rich kid, lol. I was assuming you were single since it’s way easier to splurge on things that are completely unnecessary without someone nagging in your ear. I’m lucky because my wife is pretty reasonable when it comes to cars and parts, she enjoys that stuff too.
Honestly the morons on the road these days have got me to that point. I will sell my road bike but I’m gonna keep my track bike. I love dragging knees too much and on the track it’s relatively safe.
Right now I’m focused on the car. My vag com cable is here so I can sort out the cel and get back to the track. I’ll probably have to start a thread cuz I have never used vag com before.
post in the canada section of AZ and ask for someone in KW to meetup for vagcom help. You’ll get someone with an A4 or GTI who just wants to check out your RS4 and they’ll help.
happy with the clearance of the charger and all the brackets bolted up i decided to tackle the relocation of the a/c dryer and the new a/c lines.
this was one of the biggest hurdles of getting jhm to ship me my kit, there are a few differences between a r/h/d rs4 and a l/h/d rs4 a/c set up and with them not having a r/h/d car to mock it up on it was a challenge. i agreed and excepted that there might need to be a few tweaks to the lines to get the final fit right, jhm sent me spare crimp on ends ect for the lines so i could adjust as needed.
here is a ruff pic of the differences between a r/h/d and l/h/d standard ac set up.
on a l/h/d usa car the connections for the ac lines are in the bulkhead right behind the oem air filter box, on a r/h/d uk car they are at the opposite side of the bulk head.
unfortunately this lay out is not possible on a r/h/d uk car as this is where the charcoal filter for the fuel evap system lives, so the proposed relocation for a r/h/d uk car is behind the opposite side wing.
on a l/h/d usa car both ac lines connect just behind the oem airbox which makes the job a piece of cake. on a r/h/d uk car one line has a connector just near the airbox but the other one (blue one in the bulkhead in first pic) is solid so must be undone from the opposite side, this is a bit more work as you have to remove both ecu’s and mounting hardware unplug a few pipes and remove the master cylinder and servo as the pipe runs underneath everything in that section.
it might have been possible just to remove the master cylinder and leave the servo in place to remove the pipe but i didnt want to have to rag on anything so i stripped it all out. i really wish i had tried to leave the servo in place as trying to get the ball on the end of the rod out the back of the servo where it clips into the pedal assembly was a right ball ache, i had the proper audi tool to unclip it but it just wouldnt budge. had to smash it out in the end (not easy) and to top it off the nylon clip which the rod clips into which you can buy separate for nearly every other audi comes as one part of the pedal assembly on a rs4, so instead of £4 for a new clip it was £29 for a piece of metal box section and a clip.
stripping out the ecus, servo ect. my wiper arms were seized solid i had to remove them still attached to the mechanism and give them three days of penetrating fluid before i could persuade them off!.
with that stripped we could run the new ac lines, the smaller red line fitted no probs but the larger blue lines thread was cocked off at the wrong angle so needed a bit of a tweak.
it was also tight with the air filter. on a l/h/d usa car the blue ac pipe loops round the other side of the air filter because it has to head back over to behind the wing where they relocate the dryer filter, on a r/h/d uk car the pipe has to head off in the opposite direction so you cant have this loop. having the loop also allows the air filter to sit lower touching the red pipe.
so i modified it as follows. i cut off threaded end and attached the pipe, i reworked and marked up the new angle and length, then had the pipe ali welded up.
i crossed the pipes over as this gave the best fit overall fit and allowed the pipes to pass through the hole in the inner wing. this also gave the air filter enough room to fit nice.
