Thanks for that Apat.

I appreciate that the term “Well-Prepped” can be very subjective.
That’s part of why I am searching out a photographer as my initial shitty iphone pics caused everyone to say “nice car, shitty pics”.

Hence the request for better pics.
So, anyone up for a shoot?

lol I got confused as to what thread I was in. Audirevolution is really blowing up. Used to be 20 of us discussing deep technical stuff about the 4.2. Now there are 300something members, replete with B6 A4 guys, B5 S4 guys and even a few trolls. It’s official…this is now a forum.

no worries, I assumed that was the case…

Communities grow and grow, I just hope this continues to be a more serious and professional forum than some of the other places I’ve been.

Thus far it’s been great!
thanks to everyone for being rad.

I don’t know. I’m sort of like Groucho, who said “I’d never join an organization that would accept me” . If it’s official, I might have to quit.

On the other hand, being somewhat of a semanticist, and with Saki using words like “replete”, I might have to stay.

Life is fraught with decisions…

LOL. I figured you’d like the link. Just messing with ya a little. Since I mostly just absorb information here I see my role as simply trying to make people laugh a little bit and to ask a thought provoking question here and there.

@fly I definitely think your car is ready for a class photo shoot.

Thanks Apat.

Also, today I got a new CEL - car runs fine, I just need to know if there is a bostonian with VagCom as mines’ not arrived yet.

I just need to make sure that it’s because I’m not running cats.
Originally I bought the car with the CEL - however the PO thought it was due to cats, my local shop found it to actually be in the Evap system and replaced the part for me, cleared the code and told me that they where totally shocked that it wasn’t coding for the Cats. I thought that it was something in the JHM tune helping the ECU handle the error- which would be awesome… ahem JHM… I was able to fully reg the car however, now a few weeks later, sitting at a light and it throws the CEL.

Anyone?
help a kid out?
I’ll buy lunch / dinner / drinks / whatever…

JHM tune shouldn’t throw cel for cats. Get a code scanner on it and go from there.

Maddog,
What I meant was that I thought that the JHM tune may have “cleared / fixed” the CEL for no cats. I knew very little about the finer points of the tune and it’s effect on mods for the car…

I have order my vagcom stuff It’s just not arrived and I want to just check the code.

Anyone in Boston?

Is there an Autozone or the like in Boston? They will scan your car for free and provide you with the codes. Yes, the JHM tune addresses the CEL when running catless or just main cats. It’s not the tune. You’re throwing a CEL for a different reason.

JHM tune will prevent the catalyst efficiency code, but that’s it. They don’t turn off cat codes, so if there’s something else wrong, the code will still trigger.

It won’t clear codes once they’re registered.

maybe go here

http://vagtoolfinder.com/locator.aspx

I’m in Worcester, I may be heading into Boston this weekend. If I do I’ll send you a PM, I can bring my VAGcom and laptop. I have an older K2 usb cable, so I cant do everything on the newer cars since they are can, but iirc the engine controller is just K line

NY07RS4 - took your advice, autozoned it and got the code p0441-the same code I just spent a few hundy on repairing… hrm… will have to figure this out.

Beemercer - Thanks for the offer, I might be sorted out at this point and just need to go see the mech that did the work.

Thanks for everyone being on top of it.
drive safe!

Glad you were able to get it scanned. Now you have some evidence to help in your conversation with your mechanic. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey folks,
If you have a chance, please check out this video http://youtu.be/Z6yCL43akbA of my idle from this morning. It was pretty cold this morning and the car had a chasing idle at just around 1000RPM on first start. It chased for a bit, I filmed it-restarted the car, it continued to chase for just a moment and then settled down. First time it’s done something like this, didn’t know if it was due to low temps.

I am taking it in for the CEL to have that sorted but wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience (also I have the - JHM 93Tune - for consideration)

Id much rather ask a lot of “stupid questions” as I learn more about this platform than make assumptions and cause myself some trouble…

Have you checked for vacuum leaks yet?

NY07RS4 - at this point I am still too “newb” to even know where to start with this car and it’s piggy V8. I would love to know what books I should be getting and what tools I should have as I continue to educate myself.

I have an apt. to hit the mechanics tomorrow and see what he has to say as he did the initial replacement of the PCV. my hope is that it’s just a vac-line or the valve itself got a bit stuck.

do you have a problem filling your gas tank ever? i.e. it fills but stops every 2 seconds, and you struggle to keep it flowing?

Cold start idle looks pretty normal to me. Mine will bobble around a bit during cold starts etc. It’s just a way for the motor to warm up a bit quicker from what I understand. I think there was another thread on here, or maybe on AZ about it, and someone was able to provide some good information about what exactly is going on.

The code though is something ya need to get your mechanic to look back into especially since they already charged you to fix it once.

sakimano - never have a problem filling the tank - damn hungry little hippo that this thing is…

Maddog - I remember C.V. saying something about building that functionality into the JHM 93+ tune. But you are right and I have a great mechanic that I have faith in. We’ll see what’s what tomorrow.

thanks guys.

that EVAP code often pops up with purge valve problems or gas cap problems. I didn’t read the whole thread so I may have missed that you already checked these two (relatively inexpensive) things out?
