lulz on other forums (current, not classics)

Really poorly thought out layout for that. Regarding the orientation, as long as air flow moves through the core it’ll work fine. Looks like they designed the bumper and skid plate to draw air through the core.

That was incredible I forgot to thank West for posting that gem.

The designer the same on the v8 turbo cars too but because they have more ground clearance (X56) on the trucks it wasn’t an issue. The M5/6 however have had this happen but not as much and those are not as forumy platforms as the M3/4 so we didn’t hear about it.

The M3/4 however is super low (relatively) and the negatives of that design really show up.

It’s shockingly bad.

The end result is each case has been the same:

  1. Car drives over something on road (tire chunk or chunk of ice etc)
  2. Oil cooler gets pierced and car dumps oil
  3. Driver pulls over immediately
  4. Engine seizes immediately
  5. Car goes into safety mode in Park and can’t be put in neutral… Thus can’t be towed so hilarity ensues trying to get it onto flatbed (one guy sprayed loads of wd40 on the flatbed and winched the car on, sliding it up the greased plank)
  6. BMW says ‘grab your ankles and pray your insurer will cover the damage’.
  7. Insurer pays $40,000 for new engine replacement, and then dumps you from coverage because the car is so risky

Guys are terrified to lower their cars now for two reasons… Increased likelihood of this happening and possibility of insurance rejecting claim and blaming being lowered. Some were making appointments to go back to stock suspension.

dat hood crease doe. The front end is so well thought out, right down to the halogen turn signals which will be replaced in 3 years under BMW free maintenance.

Sounds like someone could make some money with a relocation parts kit

Kid wants B5 S4 (which by itself, there’s nothing wrong with).

But interesting thread lol - wants a 9 second B5 S4 too

Great he’s in NE Ohio… Maybe I’ll see him at Thompson with his race car… I won’t hold my breath though…

So he wants to build a car more powerful than a McLaren P1 but more reliable on a shoestring budget to save money. Good luck with that.

wait… you’re in NE ohio? where at?

LMFAO

Concord, OH just east of Mentor… My office is in downtown Cleveland… I live about 10-15 minutes from Thompson which is one reason I go so much… Where are you at and what do you drive? I have a vagcom cable if you need anything…

I used to live in Chardon, grew up racing at the kart track next to the drag strip. Currently living in Massillon but usually in Chardon every weekend trying to get my mazda ready for race season. I bought a vag com cable recently so I am good there. But I would love to go to Thompson once it opens up and get some runs in

I bought my last motorcycle in Massillon at J&J Motors

That’s about 5 minutes down the road from me

Awesome! I’ll hit you up once the season starts and please do the same… I go frequently early and late in the year and less frequently in the summer and try to avoid the big events… I plan to get my son into kart racing once he’s old enough(currently 3.5) so I could use some advice on that… There are a few others that are local, some that hit the strip and some that don’t so I can probably get one or two more to tag along… Looking forward to meeting you!
