Well, that thread is a great indication of how when a few people complain, they complain loudly…while many more happy people sit quietly in the background and say nothing.
It’s good to get perspective on what the community’s impression of a product really is, rather than what a couple of people who had problems think. Goes both ways though…if something is truly terrible, we should hear about it.
The JHM clutch problems on the RS4 are interesting. I know that a bunch are definitely installation related as the JHM install is a little different to what most shops have been exposed to. It’s not splitting atoms, but they make the system to very demanding specs…and if installation isn’t done properly, it can lead to problems. I also know that the stock system has some design problems of it’s own that relate very closely to some of the problems the JHM customers complaining have had…so someone needs to do more research and find out if it is a problem with stock hardware etc. that is causing some of the non-install related problems.
mick’s complaints are just convenient. He loved it loved it loved it having JHM parts…then suddenly when he joined team ebwerks and decided to wage nerd war on me, he hated everything about JHM. He even threatened JHM that he’d trash them on the forums if they didn’t distance themselves from me. I think he’s legitimately nuts. Way too far gone.
JHM exhaust - he first loved it, and loved the sound. Then after joining team ebwerx he said it was terrible quality (even though he sold it as ‘excellent’ and the buyer told me directly that it was indeed excellent, and his fab shop friend marvelled at the quality)
JHM tune - he loved his tune when he was dynoing 360 WHP, but suddenly hated his tune when he joined ebwerks. He blamed a ‘weak version’ that caused him to run 13.X @ 110+ but conveniently cracked off a 12.4 once JHM gave him launch assist on an identical tune
JHM clutch/flywheel - he loved it…wrote an email to JHM that it was great and flawless after 20,000 miles and half a dozen tracks days and that he shouldnt listen to anyone. Convenient that he claimed it ‘failed’ right when he joined team ebwerks.
What I doin’t get about the clutch complaints from the track day guys…why are they willing to $1000 in rotors and pads every 5 track days…or destroy $1500 in tires every 5 track days…but they freak the fuck out when their $1500 clutch/flywheel has a failure after 5 track days? Is it just me or is there a disconnect here in expectations? I don’t believe anything mick says, so we shouldn’t use him as an example, but guys who blow their engine on a misshift at a track day…is that the tune’s fault or Audi’s fault? no? Well why are the guys who are roasting their clutches at track days always so quick to blame someone and not look internallly at their own behaviour?
